Thursday Next
Once things get settled down, I can see Rebels winning much more. Bomb the closer AT-AT one then lasso or just gun down the further AT-AT. The closer AT-AT will go down most of the time while the second one will be a wildcard if it goes down or not. Either way, I can already hear the calls for orbital bombardment to be nerfed since it can kill a 100% health AT-AT if you land the shot just right. Or not. Depending on the teams' pilots one side can dominate the skies, keeping the Uplink stations in their control. Which brings me to this bit: The ground troops have very little in ways to fight back against fighters. I had a few fighters charge me and even a full blaster barely made a dent. Rockets are rare pickups so their uses are mainly for the AT-ATs. For Imperials, I guess I can shoot with that single fucking shot. Ugh. I swear I'll land an ion grenade on one before the beta ends. I already marked a kamikaze attack on an enemy fighter off my list. Bear in mind that there's other star cards and such that could well lend themselves better to Walker Assault which aren't available to unlock in the Beta. There's the Ion Torpedo unlock in Tatooine survival for starters which is likely effective vs AT-AT, AT-ST and possibly TIEs (not sure if it is anti-air or not but it does lock on). This is a small piece of a far bigger game. I do think Orbital Strikes are OP v AT-ATs to be honest. So long as everyone knows to hoard them and not do anything stupid like use it on infantry to hold an uplink of course (you know that, in Battlefield Friends parlance, "the noob" will get an orbital and immediately pop it on a smoking AT-ST while screaming "bring the rain"). CorgiShinobi
I play in third person, and what I noticed is that though the camera isn't obstructed, your character model could very well be shooting into the rock on your left. I also agree with the AT-AT assault. Majority of the time now one AT-AT at least gets taken out. Even in my last match where we were dominating on the Imperial side, someone actually tripped one of the AT-ATs. Still won!
deanb
I've done that too many times, be all "pew-pew-pew.....why aren't you dying?" to notice the smouldering pile of laser blaster resistant snow in front of me.
danielpholt
So I don't think we've asked yet...who's actually going to buy this?
deanb
It comes out 8 days after Fallout 4 and I'm not much an MP person anyway. It's a fun time killer for the beta and Star Wars is cool, but not gonna put £90+future micro-transactions into this.
danielpholt
I think that's where many are going to draw the line. I've enjoyed the Beta, but I've not really got any interest in throwing £45 at this game when Fallout is around the corner. It's filled game between Destiny and the Witcher expansions, and I'm fine with it disappearing off into the ether until there's a substantial price drop, at which point it won't be worth playing anyway. Mal
Ideally, the Beta should've convinced people to drop money on this instead of Fallout 4 if the consumer is faced with only getting one or the other. I'm pretty sure it did the opposite for most consumers in that group. It's a fine game that should only improve with the full game but yeah, MP only kind of stings. I agree with GOH, a SP Star Wars game with this kind of visuals and sound assets would've been amazing. DICE just played it safe with something that they should've (WTF is up with the spawns at times?) been masters of. Though, I guess this game does/can win over the COD crowd which is really their target audience and the game they are trying to fight. I don't think they were after Fallout 4.
Thursday Next
I don't think even the most amazing 8hr single player shooter experience would have swayed anyone who was jonesing for a 100hr plus Fallout 4 RPG experience. Totally different markets.
Mister Jack
I wish these companies would learn that they are never going to get the CoD audience. It's never going to happen. If Battlefield can't do it, nothing will.

Totally different markets. Well, the thing is with me is that I'm down for either game, I just don't have the money to go for both when they are both in a similar launch window. And yes, I would want to experience them at or near launch. Discussion about games tend to dry up rather quickly and that is part of my enjoyment of games. Not so much a problem here in these forums but elsewhere.

deanb
Footage of Battlefront 3, before Free Radical got murdered. Looked like there's a fair chunk of content to it and a relatively complete state.
Mister Jack
Footage of Battlefront 3, before Free Radical got murdered. Looked like there's a fair chunk of content to it and a relatively complete state. Why...why couldn't this be the one we got? The graphics aren't as pretty but I would have happily traded that for everything else. Just why?
deanb
Bear in mind graphics wise this would have been a PS3/360 game.

Mister Jack
That's right, I forgot about that. God damn it.
Mr. GOH!
When I said I wanted a SP Star Wars game, I did not mean I wanted a token Battlefront SP campaign, to be fair. And I don't really expect the BF games to have meaningful SP, nor do I think they should. Just because I'm not a fan of MP doesn't mean there shouldn't be MP games. I'm not buying this because MP-only = no buy from Mr. GOH!, of course. Mal: I would imagine both FO4 and SWBF to have fairly long tails when it comes to discussion. If anything, I think SWBF will be make a better late purchase if you really value discussion, as MP games get futzed with and have new content often enough that commentary remains liveley, I'd imagine. Plus there aren't any real spoilers for MP games like this, which is not the case with FO4. I guess I'm saying that you should get FO4 instead of this at launch. deanb
So it's only covering the original trilogy, no clone war battles? That's kinda disappointing.
Mal
The original trilogy sells so that's not surprising. Clone Wars would've made more sense I think since I can't be the only one weird out by beating the Imperials in Hoth or kicking Luke or Vader's asses. Also any hero units could actually die and not do their knelling thing or whatever they will do in the full game.Clone Wars is kind of perfect for their survival/horde mode... Mister Jack
There are some Killzone 2 level shenanigans going on in that launch trailer. Seriously, that slice is so vertical that it's going all the way into space.
