I cried till I got my dad (and had my brothers agree) to buy the Captain America/Avengers NES game. It was the one with Cap and Hawkeye as playable characters. It was a good game, and difficult. Took us a long time to complete.

I cried till I got my dad (and had my brothers agree) to buy the Doom II PC game. It was a bad choice, I got scared, but I had to suck it up and play it because I didn't want to admit defeat.

I have not OC my computer yet. i7 950 too.

OCing is unnecessary bullshit that people only do so their numbers can be higher than someone else's on a message board.

That depends. If you're like one of those guys, who overclocks fucking everything to the point when computer starts crashing, just to get one or two frames more, or score a couple of points higher in latest 3D benchmark, then yes, it's bullshit and you're only slaughtering hardware.

However, if cranking up the CPU means significantly higher clock speeds, then by all means, you can do that. I remember OC'ing my old dual core CPU from 2.5GHz to 3.0GHz and maybe 0.5 gigs don't sound too impressive on paper, but it made a whole world of difference when it comes to higher framerates in games. And I've known people who OC'ed their CPU even by whole damn gigahertz, but for that you need a good motherboard and beefy cooling system.

>you overclocked to quad core from dual core

What in the actual fuck are you talking about? Or are you forgetting the context in which I'm ridiculing people who spend hundreds of dollars on cooling instead of buying a better CPU?

I get your point if you bought one of those fucktarded AMD 3-core processors way back but this isn't an issue any more.

He didn't say he overclocked a dual core to become a quad core, he upgraded from a dual core to a quad core. Sure these days many games rely on GPU for most of the frame rate eating stuff, but it'd be silly to deny the CPU isn't a factor at al in boosting framerates, especially where AI and such that run through the CPU are concerned. Also depends on the game, Civ V is quite CPU heavy compared to GPU heavy.

Take your pills dude, that's not what I was saying.

Thank you.

Each component has a major part in overall performance, actually. Even the motherboard or HDD. The point is - if overclocking means getting a significant boost to your performance, then it's worth it. If not, then why bother, unless it's your hobby or something.
