FredEffinChopin
Yeah, I verified it last night, there are definitely differences. I busted out "Merc" for the first time, and it definitely doesn't turn nearly as sharply as other vehicles do. I can also verify that "wins" means something different to the creators of this game than it meant where I grew up. I racked up several ranked wins with the Merc last night, and it's still sitting at 0.

Hot Heart
I wasn't sure if there were differences or not until now either. My choice of car, when I decide to change it, plays out as follows: 1. Try and fail to figure out what those little orange icons are in the corner of most of the cars' windows. If you're talking about on the garage screen, it probably means you've unlocked decals for those models (unlike all other cosmetic items, each vehicle has its own decal set rather than stars, stripes, etc. carrying over to every one) but haven't selected and looked at them yet
madbassman39
I like Merc the most. If there are differences between the cars its pretty minimal. Merc just looks fun when its doing flips in the air. This would be a fun game to start a PXOD tourney. Get a 6 teams going and put up a season with a playoff. FredEffinChopin
See, I could've sworn the Road Hog doesn't accelerate quite as fast or jump quite as high and the Paladin had a touch of "oversteer" but I guess there could be other factors when it gets chaotic. Boom. *edit* - Wrong quote, that was supposed to be the one where you enlightened me as to the meaning of the orange icons. I'm just too lazy to completely fix it now. The thing with the stat tracking is a bug, evidently. It's supposed to be getting taken care of with a patch this week. Again. Boom. It's hard to articulate very accurately, but this game seems to capture the essence of soccer/football more than any soccer video game could ever hope to. It's one thing to control individual players as they run, deal with some overall team strategy, and press x at the right time to kick while maybe aiming for a corner. Clumsily interacting with this giant ball using automobiles though, really puts the player in a position that forces them to interact with it on a much more intimate level. Fighting for rebounds (pardon me if the terminology I'm borrowing from other sports doesn't fit, as I'm a soccer noob), shooting goals, setting up plays (often times the familiar cross-style setup that is common in soccer, to boot), and even controlling the ball all require close attention to timing, speed/angle-approach, and the players around you. I suppose a soccer video game could focus on the minutia of interacting with the ball while putting the (video game) player in control of a single (virtual) player, but I think it would turn people off to have to work that hard at it while CPU players run around the field and play normally. Oddly enough, this unlikely combination of Twisted Metal and soccer really provide a great backdrop for this sort of simulation of soccer that is, arguably at least, much less superficial than than your typical video game representation of a sport. Like I said, it's hard to articulate... Edited July 20, 2015 by FredEffinChopin

FredEffinChopin
The losing streak I'm on is almost unbelievable. Maybe not streak, as there has been an occasional win, but the past couple of days... I don't know. I feel bad, like I'm bringing it on people. I had two back-to-back losses of 7-0. Complete downer. Not to try to make excuses, but this game has a huge problem with people bailing if a goal is scored early. I find it kind of surprising, as these games can turn kind of quick, and if one team can score 1-4 goals in the first minute, then another can do it in the last minute. It's so annoying, because then it leaves me in a 2-on-3 situation, and down one goal. I wouldn't mind if it didn't happen almost consistently. FredEffinChopin
I just played solo from 4:11 (game time), when the second of my two teammates ditched at the sight of a second goal to our one. This would be a much cooler post if I ended up winning it at the end. I came painfully close to doing it several times throughout the game, both before and after overtime. The last 1:11 of standard play (beginning after my game-tying goal; 4:50 on the youtube video) is particularly brutal for me on the re-watch. I also wish I could say that I played amazingly, and that that is the reason that I put up such a great fight with those odds, but I think I just played less badly than the other three. I definitely had some strong moments there, but also several blown opportunities, and a few of my defensive blunders were saved only by even clumsier play by the blues. Oh well. *edit*I wish that video title didn't look so suggestive. *edit* *editagain!* Holy effin shit, and check the last 5 seconds of standard play!!!! COME ON!!!!!! CorgiShinobi
The AI is fierce in this game. My team would have been 9-2 if there was one more literal second for the ball to roll completely through.
TheFlyingGerbil
Is there any penalty for quitting a game early? How do other games handle it? The only online multiplayer I play is splatoon and no one quits that
Thursday Next
You get 750 points for completing a game (vs 1000 for winning) so if you care about points, yeah there's a 750pt penalty.
danielpholt
Is there any penalty for quitting a game early? How do other games handle it? The only online multiplayer I play is splatoon and no one quits that They're working on it. People are hoping they'll implement a softer point reduction on players who stick around after their team mates quit, and introduce harsher penalties for those who do quit; longer waits for new games, heavy point reductions etc etc. Either way its getting a tad ridiculous. I had two players on the opposing team quit after we took a lead 10 seconds into a game.
Thursday Next
I've not seen many people quit midgame. It's annoying when they do as they tend to get replaced by the aforementioned vicious AI. I don't get the point of quitting mid game anyway. It's a 5 minute match. It'll take you the best part of 2-3 minutes to find a new game. So you save yourself about 2 minutes and you look like a cry-baby. deanb
Hooray. My first PS4 upload. I scored two goals in a row, figured it'd be worth a share. I figure the quality will jump from 240p as Youtube process it. I had a pretty good run tonight. Was meant to be playing with colleague though.

There I was in the midst of it trying to play, but honestly I wasn't even sure I wanted my team to win. So yes, crybabies is an accurate term. Hot Heart
Will have to share a replay of this amazing game I played last night. One friend has played it quite a bit and makes for a great goalie (but can also make a good break and score) while the other friend is relatively new. Our session started off a bit crappy as the newer friend and I could not coordinate; we kept going for the same thing, crashing into each other, not having anyone centre when it gets played across goal. I knew my strength was interference, winning the ball and getting it to the goal (I think I have more assists than anything else) so I essentially nominated myself as midfielder/winger and the other friend as centre forward. After that, we had proper teamwork down pat. Amazing goalie, and some pretty well coordinated goal-scoring. In-between that, we worked well at covering each other and were making some pretty good saves/clear balls. Then we ran into this team who were just a little better than the rest; they didn't fumble when the ball reached their corners like many do, and they could really press the attack. We went 3-0 down fairly early on. However, I noticed it was the same guy scoring every time (hard to miss that) and so made it my duty to fuck. his. shit. up every chance I got. Whenever there was an awkward air ball or some scuffle in the corner, I diverted focus to bashing our opponents around. Not demolishing them, especially not while defending, because that actually tends to give them a decent perspective on things and a chance to build up momentum when they respawn, but nudging them here and there (although, I literally drove one guy up the wall). And it worked! We clawed it back to 3-3 and it went into overtime. That went on for ages and was the most tense part of the whole affair, especially since I completely missed a sitter right after kick-off (when it happens unexpectedly and you can't quite get around the ball enough to get it on target...) The ball went back and forth, with some great saves until I managed to hop the ball along the back-right corner and follow it up as it dropped in front of the goal, edging it over the two guys there. Totally fist-pumped afterwards. It really was an awesome team effort. tl;dr Never underestimate the value of blocking/nudging your opponents instead of going after the ball.
Thursday Next
Played a few rounds last night, we were doing ok until we came across a team with a star player as well. Whoever MiniPanda10 is, after they beat us in the first game, I decided that wasn't going to happen again. I spent the rest of the game demolishing him. It works wonders. They are taken out of the game and even when they aren't being nudged or asploded they spend their time looking over their shoulders rather than focussing on the ball. After three more defeats to us the message "Please leave" popped up. As it was getting late, we complied with the request.
madbassman39
I played a game with my friend and brother this last weekend. We won the first game something like 8-1. The second game we lost 7-5, but two of the goals were our own fault. During the second game, which had the same players as the first game, they were on their mics talking about how we suck, called us pussies and reminded us that we were idiots. We reminded them that we did win the first game in the chat, and then they wanted a rematch. We dominated the third match and won 4-0 and to our surprise, the trash talking stopped almost immediately in that game. It was satisfying to win.
