Assassin's Creed: The Movie

Just read that Fassbender, co-star Marion Cotillard and the director all just worked together on Macbeth which has very good reviews so there is a possibility the film will be good. but it doesn't need to be good to be enjoyable, I had fun watching the Prince of Persia though I know it wasn't a good film. Having said that the article I read also said that it has spent a lot of time getting rewrites and having different people attached to it which often isn't a good sign.

Half the trouble with games based on video games is that they try to imitate the game itself. All I want is a story based in the AC world, if they can make a good one of those we'll be doing well. I trust in Fassbender and Cotillards as damn good actors who are capable of picking a decent project to work on too. Maybe this might actually be good.

Bit early in the morning for you isn't it? :P

Yeah, I'm not sure Fassbender would hop on this if he didn't think it was good. My only counter-point to my "no faith in Fassbender" would be Glyenhall n Kinglsey aren't exactly shit actors and PoP was considered kinda poopy. Though if memory serves it was largely due to being sorta nonsensical (especially given time travel bit) and shit editing can destroy any film.

What I mean is, they take the worst aspects of the game and try to make a movie around them. Assassins Creed has some interesting central themes, but in order to earn the money of the 15 year olds they're trying to cater too, they'll largely ignore them and make another boring, predictable action film; only this time with swords.

Here's a Guardian article on the project. It's vaguely optimistic, but there's not much to it. It does say Fassbender will be playing both a modern day character and a 15th century Spanish ancestor during the Spanish Inquisition. To make it work I think they'll need to spend a larger proportion of their time in the modern world setting than the games do since you'd probably need the amount of plot they've spread out over the entirety of the game series in the one film. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they spent the majority of the film's time there.

I wonder if it will tie into the game world, e.g. the modern day part could be a continuation of the game's without much difficulty, or if future games will make reference to the spanish inquisition. I'd be equally as happy if it was it's own separate world.

I wonder if they'll have Danny Wallace in it.

And it does mention in the embedded tweets it'll be withing universe, just a new story. The reference to "familiar faces" brings my initial question.

There's also whatsherface but she was a spy or something...I haven't played for a while. Got Unity to play at some point.

I'm not sure about"find some familiar faces" makes it sound fleeting - most of the games end up mentioning altair and his master, to show where things started out so it could be something as simple as that. I just started rogue, so don't know quite where the modern day story ends up. I did think about danny wallace, as I like him, but evidently forgot to mention him.

two more names for the cast confirmed: Jeremy Irons, for all your intra-familial marriage needs and Brendon Gleeson. I think Gleeson is more of a pointer toward the positive, but Irons is sort of still a big name.

Ooooh. Irons is great. Likely our baddie there. Gleeson can do both sides of the coin, I've a feeling middle management Templar maybe. Irons has done Borgias too which AC2 touched upon that era of Rome.

Though PoP had Ben Kingsley so Ubisoft can still fuck up solid casts (though I think that was a different company, so with AC is Ubisoft taking tighter reigns). Yeah, PoP was Jerry Bruckheimer and this is "Ubisoft Motion Pictures". Bit like Square Pictures I guess........

Fassbender better be prepared.

Was just thinking on this the other day that we seemed to be short on trailers and such on this of late.

Though he kinda fucked up not using hay, much more effective. (Also given they're assumedly gonna CGI a lot of that footage why not just make a hero model n throw that off a digital tower?)

Because CGI is most convincing when it's background/peripheral stuff and the main thing you're actually focused on is real.
