deanb
So there's no proper name yet but enough is cropping up that it's definetly in the works. I'l lchange name once it's known. Here's something to start us off: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1113452 Patent surface for clickable scroll shoulder pad buttons. Makes a degree of sense once you hear of it. Especially given the use of R1/RB & L1/LB for use with navigating tabbed menus already. My only thought would be that it's horizontal scroll for what'd likely frequently be vertically scrolling menus (though obviously they'll be games utilizing too, or at least intended to)
TheFlyingGerbil
Even though I will definitely be getting it at or near launch (don't judge me!), it's hard to get too excited if we don't even know if it's handheld, home console or some hybrid system. danielpholt
So, I'll no doubt end up grabbing one of these but is anyone else kind of wishing Nintendo would just do away with their home console business? They make some truly awesome games, but aside from Mario Maker, what games released on Wii U wouldn't have worked on a PS4, PC or XONE?

Splatoon wouldn't be nearly as interesting, as it makes heavy use of the gamepad.
TheFlyingGerbil
Interesting? Or another under utilised second screen. Edited December 10, 2015 by TheFlyingGerbil

TheMightyEthan
Supposed leaked pictures of the prototype NX controller: I have to say, it looks like the least comfortable controller I've ever seen. Admittedly those handles in the patent application posted by TFG made the thing look dumb, but at least it would provide a way to grip it. This thing looks even worse than a Vita, which is impossible to hold even remotely comfortably without add-on grips.
Mr. GOH!
Wow. I didn't think Nintendo would finally make a controller worse than both the WiiMote and the original NES rectangle controller.
danielpholt
It looks like the Vita and the Reddit logo got together for a night of hot passion and 9 months later this thing slid out.

TheFlyingGerbil
Bearing that in mind who knows how real this is For starters, that "leaked" NX controller is a fake. It's really convincing, but the controller that we have on our devkit is nothing like that. Our devkit's controller: Doesn't have an oval screen. Ours is a standard rectangle. Has physical buttons with a screen behind them. It doesn't have a form shifting screen, nor does it have a touchscreen with haptic feedback. Is hardwired to the devkit, which looks like a boring black box with some USB ports and a disc drive. However, that fake does get a couple things right. It does have scroll wheel shoulder buttons, but in addition to them it also has two regular shoulder buttons labeled ZL and ZR. It also has a headphone jack in the bottom of the controller. Some other things I can tell you: I don't know if the NX is backwards compatible with the Wii U or 3DS or not, but it doesn't look like it is. The system is different enough from both that I think it would be hard to play games from other consoles. The controller is sort of a game system in its own, but it's not a replacement for the 3DS. It works like a companion app on a phone, and you can take it with you and control some things from your game, like how the VMU on the Dreamcast let you take a Chao with you and train it. No one outside Nintendo knows what the NX's name is. It's still the NX here internally. It's on Reddit posted by someone who says that he works at a triple a dev . (Haven't read the rest of it yet, will add anything else interesting if I see other) who knows if it's real but it certainly sounds like a better prospect than the fake one, but then makes me wonder what will be happening with the 3ds if the controller is take awayable but not a full stand alone handheld console not sure if that makes space for a new compatible portable console. Edit. Read through most of the thread... Not sure how believable it is. Don't know why I bother with this nonsense should just try and wait until Nintendo finally say something. Mr. GOH!
Reddit guy also said the NX is more powerful than the PS4, but didn't seem to go into technical specifications. That's good for Nintendo, especially if this is a particularly long console generation.
toxicitizen
Reddit guy also said the NX is more powerful than the PS4, but didn't seem to go into technical specifications. That's good for Nintendo, especially if this is a particularly long console generation. I'm not sure I buy that, power doesn't seem like something Nintendo prioritizes these days. Then again, if there's any truth to it and it's known within the industry, that could be why Sony and MS are looking into incremental hardware upgrades, I guess. Personally, I kinda hope the original rumor about NX being a console/handheld combo is true, with the handheld part being a proper 3DS successor that also fills the role of the Wii U's tablet. If the console component maintains BC with Wii and Wii U games and the handheld component maintains BC with DS and 3DS games, that would be a pretty strong selling point for me. Might be the first Nintendo console I buy since the N64. I'm probably setting the bar way too high with this, though.
Mr. GOH!
I'm not sure the reddit guy is real, either. But it is good to know the photos of the terrible controller are fake.

Suck it! *Edit - Also Zelda U confirmed for NX. I am so mad at Nintendo right now. Also, coming right off of Super Mario 3D Land, you got Super Mario 3D World, which is even better from the looks of it! But seriously, who releases a video game console in March? MARCH!?! A handheld? Sure. But a full retail console? IN MARCH?! It's actually a genius move, think about it! "Our launch line-up isn't weak you guys, it's totally just the usual summer drought!"
