Mister Jack
I get what you're saying and all, but I'm just gonna say that if the success of the gaming market ever becomes tied to MOBAs and survival games, I'm just going to quit being a gamer right then and there.
FMW
Nintendo Studios still MIA: Intelligent Systems (Paper Mario and Fire Emblem Strategy games), HAL Laboratories (Kirby, Boxboy), Alphadream (Mario and Luigi RPG series), Sakurai's team (Smash Bros). Camelot could have had a Mario Sports game ready to go (or even Golden Sun). Those teams are all working on stuff, but none of it is likely to broaden appeal for this console. Even if every one of these studios had a game for Switch landing in the first 12 months... so what? Is there anyone not on board who would get on board if we just had MORE JRPGs and Platformers? Maybe we just need Good Feel to follow up on Kirby Yarn and Yoshi Yarn with another cute yarn game! The only studios I can think of that might have any sort of audience expanding cool shooter games are Next Level Games and Retro Studios. Because those have both made Metroid Prime games for Nintendo. However, both of those studios have also made Mario Universe games that sold way better than their shooter output. Next Level killed it with Mario Strikers Charged and Luigi's Mansion 3DS. Both strong sellers. And Donkey Kong Country far outperformed Metroid Prime's sales numbers coming from Retro. So any time I see complaints regarding the number of software titles, I just feel like it's missing the forest for the trees. If we had more games announced, it would be more of the same because that's what Nintendo and Japan makes. All Nintendos JRPGs and unique first party titles in the world can't fill the mainstream hole in this console's heart.
Mr. GOH!
Ethan: I got the power estimate from pre-reveal hypothesizing. If it's really only a little more powerful than the Wii U, its price is not just dumb but outrageous. Edited January 15, 2017 by Mr. GOH! deanb
Yeah power wise it's a high-end-ish Android tablet. At best on-par with the PS3 n 360. Essentially a Nividia Shield tablet running Nintendo software.
Saturnine Tenshi
I'd be at least a bit more interested if that Mario title didn't look terrible. Like some GTA San Andreas version of Mario is Missing.
TheMightyEthan
Like some GTA San Andreas version of Mario is Missing. Yeah, I wanted a new "real" 3D Mario game (3D World, while awesome, felt more in the family of the 2D Marios than the M64/Sunshine/Galaxy ones), but that real world area is just... eugh. CorgiShinobi
I still stand by the actual event being alright, doing its job and not being a technical failure (that translator though). It's everything after the event that drags it all in the mud. I understand why the pair of Joy-Con controllers are $80; essentially two Wiimotes (one being $40) bundled together. It's not an enticing price and they'd be better off meeting the status quo of $60. Games like Arms shouldn't be near full price. Hell, a lot of people thought 1-2 Switch was going to be the Switch's version of Wii Sports. Not many people bought Nintendo Land for Wii U and a portion of those who own it got it through some promo. And the over reliance of users having to use their smartphone for online features. It was introduced as a nice option, like what you can do with PlayStation, but it shouldn't be a damn near necessity. What about the kids who don't have a smartphone yet because their parents don't feel children can be responsible enough to manage one? "Mom, I want to talk to my friends in Mario Kart. Where's your phone?" At that point I'd have them use the tablet mode and use the family computer with Discord. Even that's not a perfect solution because no child of mine would bogart the shared computer.
Mister Jack
No streaming services at Switch launch because they were "making an amazing dedicated video games platform." Don't ever buy a console at launch, kids.
TCP
No streaming services at Switch launch because they were "making an amazing dedicated video games platform." Don't ever buy a console at launch, kids. I mean, that's a bullshit reason but how many people use their Wii U's to watch Netflix? Edited January 22, 2017 by Mr. TCP!
Mister Jack
True, but the switch is a lot more portable than the Wii U and it has a built in kickstand. It could make a pretty nice Netflix device. In theory. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
TCP
Fair enough point. Regardless, I think most of my devices in the house come with Netflix now, it's weird to have a new device in 2017 that won't. I'm still pissed 3D content never came to the 3DS's Netflix. deanb
Yeah while it's unlikely it'll be a major use of the app, it's sort of a glaring omission given most screens now have a netflix app next to their port of Doom. Also they only have like 4 launch titles so "focusing on games" is a bit of a shitty excuse. If they'd put in Netflix would they only have 2? Heck, I'm amazed they've not suggested using your smartphone to watch Swtich Netflix through
TheFlyingGerbil
Online is set to be between 2,000 - 3,000 yen (£14-21 or $17.50-26.50) annually. Nintendo are also still looking to add VR to Switch in the future when they are confident they can make it comfortable to play for extended periods. deanb
Nintendo are also still looking to add VR to Switch in the future when they are confident they can make it comfortable to play for extended periods. AKA never. It's way too low-res for one unless they knock out a sort of Switch Pro/Scropio kind of dealy-o down the line with a mid-lifespan bump to up the screen resolution (and CPU/GPU power on board too).
Mister Jack
I find it strange that Nintendo is already eager to jump on the VR train, which I'm still not sure has fully left the station, when it took them over a decade to finally embrace mobile devices, which are ubiquitous.
deanb
I've a feeling they're basically giving a half-hearted response on VR to keep investors happy. If they were truly on board the VR train was well out of the station when they started working on the Switch. Heck I'm pretty sure Oculus was firing up when Wii U was launched (Yep I googled it and Oculus Kickstarter was 3 months prior to Wii U release). They've no intention to bring VR to the Switch or it would have had the capabilities out the door.
TheFlyingGerbil
Yeah, I'm not holding my breath for VR, would be a nice bonus but nothing more. Would be a bit miffed if it was a hardware revision in the near future though.
Mal
Okay, that's not a bad price for an online service of unknown quality. And yeah, VR isn't happening for the Switch. It will have to be a new standalone system. With Nintendo track record, they'll have a hard time attracting support.

P4: Gritty Reboot
My anticipation for the Switch disappeared after that press conference that basically showed they're gonna have Zelda at launch along with a whole lot of nothing. I'll get it eventually. Mario and Splatoon did look cool, but what's the rush in picking it up? I'll just get Zelda for the Wii U and save my $300 or whatever it is.
Thursday Next
what's the rush in picking it up? I dunno... Ethan, what *is* the rush?
