That's a hori peripheral so we can hope that Nintendo's solution is a bit simpler (though this is officially licensed  so probably not that different).

I assume if you're happy to listen to the game sounds through the console/TV then you can do away with the wire connecting the console to the dongle, or even just plug a normal pair of earphones with an inline mic straight into your phone - if not then there are going to be some serious problems when it comes to playing it in tv mode.

I feel ready to get a Switch, just there's nothing I don't already have that's worth getting right now. To clarify, I already have Breath of the Wild on Wii U, as well as Mario Kart 8. Sure the version on Switch is Deluxe, but it's still the same game I already own. Outside of that, there's nothing that strikes a must-have chord to me.

Granted, there have been good reviews for ARMS, but it's not the most portable of games and that's my motive for looking into a Switch right now. I'll be going on vacation mid-July and thought it would be cool to have the portable home console going to, from, and while I'm visiting family. Unfortunately, Splatoon 2 doesn't launched until July 21, which is going to be when I'm done with vacation. Kinda defeats the purpose, right? I already own Shovel Knight and Binding of Isaac for the longest time. I'm past those games, not to mention I don't want to get into digital games on the Switch yet because of the lack of a true account system.

So with those games out of the way, is there a game that would be worth looking into? I mean, I feel I've already eliminated over half the Switch library.

If it comes out before you leave for vacation and if you haven't played it yet, check out Stardew Valley. Besides its addicitive nature where you must play one more day, it's almost perfect for portal gaming where you can put it down after going to sleep (in game) and saving. Other than that, nothing pops in my mind.

As for me, I could get in on some of that BotW, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2 action for my vacation at the end of July. Only reason I am holding back is that there isn't a Splatoon 2 version of the Switch in North America. That's almost an impulse purchase right there.

I'm not sure there's all that much available right now, especially if you've already eliminated the three reasons you'd buy a Switch right now.

Gonner looks fun, but that was pushed back at the final moment and it's release date is now 'TBD'. I've got my eyes on Stardew and whatever that spiritual successor to Super Meat Boy is (although could be a while off).

If I was in your shoes, I'd hold off until after Splatoon. By August I think the Switch will have a pretty nice back catalogue of first party titles with ARMS, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Zelda and whatever that Kingdom Battle game is (I know its not first party), and with Mario on the horizon I think that's a nice excuse to finally pick it up.

Nyko are first to announce a third party dock. It however doesn't have any USB support.

I'm to understand it is however substantially cheaper than the regular dock (and hey it's only the base bit so unlikely to scratch your screen).

Do you mean firm dates because they've confirmed they're working on both those games already.

I mean something more like "here's a gameplay video, and this is the release quarter" rather than "yes we are working on this" because that second one could turn into a 2022 release on the Nintendo Spank or whatever stupid name they come up with for the next thing (I'm aware the first one could too, but it's not quite as likely).

You know how I was contemplating getting a Switch?

The ironic thing is even if I wanted one now, after this E3, everywhere around me sold out of the console. Like, that was the story for a lot of busier cities and etc. However, my local stores still had a relatively low stock floating around their inventory. They've all been sold out ever since.

Either way, I'm waiting till Splatoon 2.

Man it would be cool to find a Switch in time for Splatoon 2. While I've been on vacation, I've checked inventories out of curiosity. Granted I didn't go to every store; only the ones when getting supplies. I'd use some online trackers when I was bored for 5 minutes. Results were almost always Out of Stock.

The only exception was that a Wal-Mart in Indianapolis seemed to have a few. However, I wasn't about to tell my family on vacation we should visit the big city 40 miles out so I could skulk about and purchase a video game console.

Hmm.

Me and my GF had a 4 hour drive a few Sundays ago to visit family on the coast. I made damn sure I popped into every Argos/Tesco/PC World along the way to find a case for my Switch.

I didn't, but even the fact that I wasn't the one driving didn't stop me. Now you mention it though..it does feel kinda icky.

So what accessories do ya'll have for your Switch?

There are a few Switches in stock once more, but I spent the money I was saving on other items during my vacation. I don't regret it since it was spent on family and some nice new clothes for myself. Just want to get an idea of what I might want to add-on while I save up a little more. I know I'll need a screen protector, and since my vacation is over, I don't think I'll need a travel case. Not sure there's anything else I would need right away.

I ended up buying Splatoon 2 off Amazon just so I could get the discount. Having a game before owning the console is strange, but Nintendo games don't go cheap until 4 - 5 years.

I've gone ahead and got myself a pro controller and a screen protector.

That's it at the moment. I'm not sure you'd need anything else to get you going. Maybe grab yourself an extra long USBC cable if you fancy charging and playing at the same time?

They are rather small, even for my hands. The grip is fine, but I can't speak well enough about the Pro controller. It's insanely expensive, but it might be my favourite out of the DS4/X Controller and PRO controller. Feels great in the hand and barely ever needs to be charged.

So I've been encountering an issue with my Switch in that the damn thing just cannot maintain a reliable internet connection if I move it around my house. It's fine in the living room (where my router is), but if I take it into another room it loses connection to the wifi immediately. Honestly, it's not the most annoying thing in the world, but for a system that's touting it's ability to play Splatoon on the go, I can't imagine a world where it's actually feasible.

Finally. I dropped a fucking plug onto my beautiful Switch screen. Thankfully I had a screen protector on and that took the brunt of the damage. Buy a god damn screen protector.

My only gripe with the joycons is the sloped section under the trigger. I wish it was slightly lower so my middle finger can rest on it and in a way lend support as I use the Switch. With the grip though, it isn't an issue. I'll have to try a Pro controller in the near future though since I can see the grip controller get old quick. A proper docked controller is needed.

Anyhow, I might add some felt bumpers to the dock in hope to avoid scratching the screen. I guess I could grab a screen protector but eh. I try to not use them when possible.

As for the Switch itself (got it at the Nintendo store in NYC, they seriously get 30 units a day. Get there around 8 AM, grab coffee across the street and wait till 9 AM)... it's just as I wanted for the most part. It's a console that I can take wherever I need to go. I rocked BotW while flying home last night which is pretty sweet. And I love the ability to pause the game and hope back on whenever. I know it has been a thing with other consoles but I think this is the first console that I own to have such a feature. It'll come in handy next week when I'm traveling for work and I'll be playing some Zelda in bed before I sleep (you knock out quick after a 10 hour day).

We've been getting a fairly regular shipment at my work, that being said it's certainly sold out more than we have it in stock. The first few months I wondered if Nintendo were artificially creating demand for the thing, but as we move forward I'm beginning to think it's general incompetence.
