TheMightyEthan
One thing I've seen pointed out on Twitter is that this doesn't look like a fisher price toy, so that's nice.
Saturnine Tenshi
The concept is wonderful. If they can pull it off I'm in. Even if the video ended with Splatoon e-sports.
deanb
@Thursday so it does. I kinda wish Nintendo put out some press shots for this.
TCP
I can't believe it. I'm truly fucking flabbergasted. This is their first truly interesting looking hardware since... the GameCube? The Super Nintendo? Years?! DECADES?! This is what the Wii U should have been. If you're going to make your console less powerful than PS4/Xbone then have a good reason for it. They fucking did it. They fucking did it. Since 1996 I've wanted one thing. Just. One. Thing. A Pokemon RPG on a console. Well here we go. You glorious bastards! There's no reason Pokemon should look how it does after Sun and Moon. Now, I owned a 3DS and a Wii U, and I was pretty disappointed with the amount of games on both of those systems. The games we got were great (usually, fuck you Wonderful 101) there just wasn't enough of them. But if you combine the amount of games released by Nintendo across both consoles, then you'd probably have a decent library, something I wouldn't regret owning. Launch with that Mario game. This system needs to launch strong, not like the Wii U or 3DS. The Wii U was a failure from day one, so of course no one was going to develop games for it after the launch line up. @Thursday so it does. I kinda wish Nintendo put out some press shots for this. TheMightyEthan
Apparently there are hints that additional processing is available when docked. If so I still hold to my original guess that it's probably just a power usage thing and not that there's actually additional processing hardware in the dock itself. deanb
The Wii was pretty damn interesting. And yeah like that. No one seems to have them just the trailer thing n Nintendos site is just the trailer atm. One thing they didn't show is if it does touchscreen. I imagine that'd be a pain for the TV-mode, but I'd think for the tablet-mode it'd be a bit of a requirement by modern standards. Be very self-limiting to not have touchscreen support. Unless I guess the pad being powered would be that big central strip is a touch pad like the DS4 has.
TCP
Goddammit Nintendo just announce a price so I can pre-order this thing.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I checked and used Wii U's are still selling for surprisingly good amounts, so I think now my plan is to finish Tokyo Mirage and then sell my Wii U and 2DS with an eye toward buying this for Zelda. TCP
You realize you won't be able to transfer any digital purchases that might carry over like you could with Wii -> Wii U.
TCP
Interesting there was no kids and no families in this trailer. Just miserable 20s/30s somethings like US.
TheMightyEthan
You realize you won't be able to transfer any digital purchases that might carry over like you could with Wii -> Wii U.Luckily I knew Nintendo's digital policy was shit so I never bought anything digitally from them. TCP
So I guess if my wife and I want to play Pokemon together in a few years we'll have to have two Switch systems?? That's weird Luckily I knew Nintendo's digital policy was shit so I never bought anything digitally from them. Your 7 years of lawyer school is paying off nicely.
TheMightyEthan
Wait, did they say you can't have two accounts on a Switch?
TCP
Wait, did they say you can't have two accounts on a Switch? Not that I'm aware of? I just meant if we want to play together like we do on 3DS we'll need two units.

Mal
That controller looks kind of uncomfortable, especially when separated. Other than that, show me 2-3 games (Zelda and Mario) at launch and a couple within the year of launch and I may be game. Western third-party support would be nice and crucial for success outside Japan. It also would be nice if Nintendo encourage some Japanese third-party devs to release outside Japan. The stuff on Steam shows that the audience can be around. Just got to start out with a large install base at launch then feed us ever few months. Not sure of the source but here's Nintendo's partners for the Switch. Please understand, Nintendo, you got to keep these guys around. MetalCaveman
It looks really cool, and I hope that Mario game is a launch title. \m/ \m/ From being in that list makes me hope for an Armored Core Switch (or whatever name they go with) that would be awesome \m/ \m/
TheMightyEthan
Apparently Eurogamer is getting info that the tablet screen is 720p, so I'm guessing most games will run at native 720p, which lends support to my guess that there's probably an upscaling chip in the base station to bump it up to 1080p for TV play. A second possibility would be games Switch-ing from native 1080p while docked and outputting to the TV to native 720p while in mobile mode, and that any power boost it gets while docked is used to handle the higher resolution. Mal
People are reporting to seeing some frame drops with Zelda when they switched from docked to mobile. Perhaps it takes a moment for the performance to stabilize at 720p or the mobile hardware is actually having trouble keeping up performance at even 720p. toxicitizen
So, this looks basically identical to some of the leaks. It's basically the Wii U but with the actual hardware inside the tablet. Kinda funny to see them doubling down on the tablet since it was my understanding that they had ultimately failed to justify that gimmick. Anyway, looks interesting enough to me but I need more info before getting excited. I imagine BC is not going to be possible, so now the question is do I get a Wii U on the cheap or hope they port all the games I care about... Also, holy crap is it ugly. Hopefully there will be better looking options color-wise. Gray and black is just kinda blergh. Edited October 20, 2016 by FLDemon
TCP
Nintendo (on Polygon maybe?) basically said if you want a Wii U get one now cause they're going to be hard to find. It's a collector's item now! I think BC is impossible since you won't be able to dual screen.
TheMightyEthan
BC should be possible for any Wii U game that supported off-screen play, because it can just treat it like you're always in off-screen mode. You're gonna be SOL for games that didn't support off-screen though, as well as DS/3DS games. I'll be interested to see what they do with Wii games, because theoretically they could let you pair some Wiimotes to it.
TheFlyingGerbil
Wasn't the Wii U a completely different architecture though, and the Switch won't have enough power to emulate it. I think the best you can hope for is remakes that are cheaper than original games. Plus, already: Edited October 20, 2016 by TheDyingGerbil
TheMightyEthan
Oh yeah, there could easily be back compat problems for other reasons, I was just talking about the limitations imposed by the screen situation.
toxicitizen
Well, there's also how that thing clearly doesn't take discs. Hopefully they'll port all the big Wii U titles over to it. Could give them a decent launch line-up and be a nice incentive for people who skipped the Wii U. As long as I can get Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101 and Super Mario 3D World on this thing I'll be fine without a Wii U. Tokyo Mirage Session and the Zelda remasters would be nice to have as well, though.
