TheMightyEthan
I was actually thinking about the disc drive, and how that base station seems weirdly big. What if there's a drive in that for use when it's docked? I doubt it, but with Nintendo you never know.
TCP
Ethan, you need to accept that there's no BC.
Mal
If those ports are anything to go on... an optional add-on disc drive could work. Of course there's the issue of hardware compatibility between the Wii U and the Switch. If they can over that hump then we can relive the SNES days with multiple add-ons for NES cartridges, disc or floppies... I even recall a Gameboy one. Shit was kind of insane when you think about it. And one more thing: Can Nintendo get their heads out of their asses and finally come out with a true Nintendo account so online can be effortless? A man can dream... CorgiShinobi
The only BC I see the Switch having is possibly 3DS games. Granted the slot and cartridges look different for the Switch, but the actual inside of the slot could maybe support a 3DS cartridge. Given that the rumors are looking true, the Switch is a merger of Nintendo home and portable console development.
toxicitizen
Yeah, 3DS BC should be doable, just need to simulate the two screens on the Switch's display. Pretty sure they did something like that for NDS BC on Wii or something? Only issues would be lack of 3D (not a big loss, imho) and, from what I can tell, they've yet to confirm whether or not the Switch has a touch screen. If it does, no reason why it couldn't happen. If it doesn't get 3DS BC, then at least that'll give me a reason to hold on to my n3DS for 3DS/NDS games. deanb
So we're into day 2 of Switch announcement and already one third party only semi-confirmed with games coming. And they were in the damn trailer: While Bethesda's much beloved Skyrim was clearly shown during Nintendo's Switch reveal video, the publisher told us today that it's not officially confirming the game just yet. "We're happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the video. While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future," a spokesperson said. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2016-10-20-nintendo-switch-officially-revealed Oh Nintendo.
CorgiShinobi
Only one? http://m.ign.com/articles/2016/10/20/developers-respond-to-nintendo-switch It's not confirming any specific games, probably besides the standard fair of Just Dance and etc, but there is interest and support from more than just Bethesda. It's still an open question whether it will support them via the eShop.
deanb
It has been suggested that it's Nintendo that've self-saboataged the messaging on the 3rd party stuff given Bethesda n 2K have much the same release it's possible Nintendo told them what to say. It sounds like Nintendo are going radio silent for a while on confirming things until start of the year too, so speculation about really (a biggy being "does it charge off USB like every other device out there or some propriety thing like they usually do?"). Anywho mainly came here for this: http://i.imgur.com/5CFOMEr.gifv
TheMightyEthan
That one tweet by the Washington Post guy says they're going silent until next year, but the people who leaked the info about the Switch (which all turned out accurate) are saying Nintendo will be giving specs/etc by the end of the month. TCP
Yeah, that's weird. I imagine they want to announce a price and get pre-orders going before the end of this fiscal quarter, so why would they wait till January??
Saturnine Tenshi
That dog controller is not working in Nintendo's favor on my part. Make it stop! I'm still surprised Nintendo held this announcement back for so long. I mean, there's hardly any time between now and launch.
CorgiShinobi
Chances are there's going to be proprietary connections and what not, but at the same time I guarantee there will be a third party option with a USB Type A plug for USB AC adapters. I still have my USB cable I got for my New 3DS that I honestly prefer over my old AC adapter.
toxicitizen
Seems Nintendo have confirmed that there will be no physical BC for the Switch. Bummer but hey, at least my n3DS purchase wasn't for nothing! The NDS library alone makes it worth hanging on to.
TheMightyEthan
I already posted that.

TCP
Sorry Ethan, looks like no BC, at least physically.
Baconrath
I really hope they've managed to move on from 802.11b to g or n for their wireless standard. Although Nintendo's wireless b fetish doesn't really matter since you should be able to use wired connection (hopefully without an accessory sold separately). I'm sure they have reasons. I guess it keeps the pricepoint down? I know I seem to always bring this up and its because I have Nam flashbacks of doing the home networking support equivalent to a hostage negotiation because a customer doesn't understand that they have to choose between getting their Wii wirelessly connected vs. everything else. Kinda weak-sauce Internet of Things shit.
TheMightyEthan
Pretty sure the Wii U and 2DS support g.
TheFlyingGerbil
wii u is N, so it won't be lower than that. Maybe ac, but I don't think most people have that so if it's that much pricier to implement I don't think they'll have any qualms leaving it out. CorgiShinobi
Wireless 802.11n is still prominent in a standard home. It does depend on what kind of media the household is involved in, but point being the Switch could comfortably be on 802.11n just like the Wii U without being a problem. TheMightyEthan
Considering that n is faster than all but the very fanciest of home internet connections it would be more than sufficient for the Switch.
Mister Jack
Finally! I won't be needing the Wii U anymore! Except the Switch isn't backwards compatible, soooo...
Mr. GOH!
Why would it be BC? It's not dual screen and Ninty wants to sell you games you've already bought three or four times yet again.
TheMightyEthan
Up till now Nintendo's been pretty good with BC. The Wii and WiiU both were, and every handheld they've ever released has been. *Edit - Luckily for me there's nothing on the Wii U I feel the need to keep access to.
