TCP
This is the Offically Unofficial PXOD Forum's Game of the Year Thread. I'm going to make a poll with some of the big games of the year, so we can all vote for what we think the best game of the year is, so we'll have a good idea of what the general consensus of GOTY is 'round these parts. If I over looked a game, let me know and I'll add it in, though I tried to pick all the games that I felt had a reasonable chance at winning. Please tell us what your favourite game of the year is, what the runners up were, and why.2015 was a great year for games, much more so than 2014. If you were into large, open world action games with some RPG mechanics, than oh boy, were you in luck! For me, it comes down to Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V, and The Witcher 3. Fallout 4 is essentially more Fallout, which is exactly what I wanted. But it's not anything I haven't done before. Metal Gear Solid V might be the best gameplay of the year, but the game is clearly unfinished, couple that with a less than stellar story (especially for a Metal Gear game), and it leaves me wishing Kojima would have had a few more months. The Witcher 3 gets my vote. It had the most game, a great story, and a beautiful world to explore. When I think back on it, Wild Hunt was the most fun I had this year, and was the most memorable game. Mr. GOH!
Witcher 3 for sure, then MGS, then FO4.
Eleven
I've only played 1 of those games!
Mister Jack
Metal Gear was unfinished and Konami has been fucking it up with terrible patches recently, so that's out of the running for me. I haven't played Witcher 3, so I voted Fallout.
TCP
I've only played 1 of those games! There's 4 weeks of the year left, get on that 11!! Edited December 7, 2015 by The Cowboy Poet
Eleven
The only game that has a chance to be played this year is Fallout 4. We'll see if I can get on that during the holiday break. But I still have to complete my NG+ for Witcher 3, and another run for my "Geralt the Jerk" playthrough. I'm running out of usable save slots on PS4. I don't imagine Fallout 4 topping my Witcher 3 experience, so I voted for Witcher 3. Specifically, Witcher 3 with Hearts of Stone. Hearts of Stone is a really, really cool piece of DLC. MetalCaveman
Bloodborne is fucking awesome, so that's my GOTY. \m/ \m/ Followed by Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void. Third place would be Dying Light, loved the gameplay on that one. MGS V is really fun when it comes to gameplay, unfortunately, the patches that have been pushing the microtransaction stuff are enough to take it off my list.
Mal
Cities: Skylines Just because I can and because of MGS V is really fun when it comes to gameplay, unfortunately, the patches that have been pushing the microtransaction stuff are enough to take it off my list. Among other things. The other games on the list I have not played but I am interested in Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3. Fallout 4 is a typical Bethesda game that I can wait to play. The Witcher 3 seems like a gem but I'm stuck in the mindset that I should at least play The Witcher 2 before I head into 3. Eh on that... While I only clocked in about 15 hrs of gameplay in Cities: Skylines but with the community and devs working together, this is the modern city builder that was missing from our lives. Sure there are some issues like traffic and the obvious bias for larger cities but this game is continually improved on. Also it isn't like some of the wonky mechanics can't be worked around and be exploited (e.g., traffic).
TCP
Cities: Skylines has been added, just for you Mal!
TheMightyEthan
I voted for Fallout 4 more by process of elimination than anything else. I actually think Life Is Strange would be my real GOTY pick.

deanb
I'd say Witcher 3 for me. Found it to be pretty solid in dialogue, pretty good story, good sidequests, and an absolutely beautiful and atmospheric world. A pleasing wrap-up to the trilogy. Only played two other games on there, and I'd say Barkman is pushing it a bit, and Fallout 4 while I'm likely to get many many hours into it, and it has redeemable features to it, it just doesn't compare to Witcher 3. Have watched Kenshi play Bloodborne and it looked pretty, and gets much praise, but I just can't wrap my head around Souls games. (Also in looking it seems from this year I've only beaten Arkham Knight, GTAV, Witcher 3, Rebel Galaxy, & Lifeline with FO4 due soonish)
Hot Heart
Witcher 3 for the Kaer Morhen bit alone. Arkham Knight is great, but it has too many frustrations this time around.

deanb
The Witcher Board Game is kinda pants tbh. Not had a chance with the Portal one mind.
Hot Heart
How is your GOTY not a board game, HotHeart? Haha. Says a lot for Witcher 3, doesn't it? Honestly, I don't think I've played a truly great 2015 board game, actually (the board game industry is doooooomed). Dogs of War is technically a 2014 release, but that would be a pretty good contender. Homeland, Burgle Bros. and Codenames are all great, but I haven't gotten to play them enough. Ghostbusters is merely alright and Why First? is just a silly little filler. There's also A Study In Emerald: Second Edition... but I haven't played it yet (love the first edition though).
danielpholt
In hindsight, I think I'm going to go and say The Witcher 3 was a bit of a disappointment. I enjoyed my time with it greatly, but in my opinion it's a weaker game than the one that came before it. As for my GOTY? Until Dawn gets the nod ahead of The Taken King (if we're allowing that, TTK is my GOTY). I don't typically enjoy horror games, but this was the perfect combination of fun, tension and visuals. **Edit** So Yeah, I forgot Rocket League and Guitar Hero Live. Still playing them both now, and I don't see that changing coming into the new year. Edited December 16, 2015 by danielpholt
Strangelove
Im The only one who voted MGS5. Ouch. Im probably also the only one who would put Tales From The Borderlands at #2. Then Witcher 3 at #3.
Mal
Well it does have great core gameplay so it can't be helped...
FMW
I've barely even played any 2015 games. I give my award to Xenoblade Chronicles X because it's basically that or Undertale in terms of games I've played from this year and Undertale sacrifices mechanics too much for the message. Which would be fine if the message was something more profound than "Killing bad, friendship good". In terms of the game I played for the first time this year that's my favorite it's definitely Dragon Quest 6. Whatever, I'm a nerd. I accept it.
