Games You've Beat in 2016

I finished FE Birthright on Normal/Casual and started on Conquest. A lot like Awakening since you can grind levels/support if you want. Some of those paralogues can be still brutal as well as the later chapters.

Currently missing the grinding in Conquest. I got spoiled by Awakening and now Birthright. : ( This is how Fire Emblem used to be, right?

Still had a unit die on Casual via cut-scene death 'cause I didn't have any rank A or higher supports with that one then. Guide damn it.

Main 'campaign' only took me 2-3 hours (one sitting), but I'll be diving back into the various challenges and arena modes that I've just unlocked.

Yeah, at this point I've replayed through the main set of levels like 10 times because of the challenges. Some of them are actually pretty damn cool.

Stardew Valley

I'm on the verge of getting married but I'm cockblocked by winter. After a few more hours I'll get pass winter and might stand around 70 hours played when I do get married. At these sorts of hours, I think I will have my fill* of this superb game. The core mechanics are spot on. Hopefully the dev can make a even better sequel in the future or maybe a clone will.

* Not to say I won't have this game on the slow burner as I do some endgame content which requires a lot of money and an even more efficient farm. It should tied me over until multiplayer mode is released whenever it is done.

Finally got Deadpool out of my backlog.  Gameplay was just passable, really, but the writing was entertaining enough to make up for it. This is bearing in mind, of course, that I bought it on sale a long time ago for less than 20 dollars.  That last level was also a real son of a bitch.  It was hard to the point of being tedious and frustrating.

Beat Until Dawn last night.  It's the kind of game where I would like to go get all the trophies, but the chapter load points are so far apart and the different things so disparate that I'd end up having to play the equivalent of probably 4 or 5 runs through the whole game.  I enjoyed the game, but not quite that much, so I suppose I'll just sell it on Amazon instead.

Nova Covert Ops, first mission pack came out today, only three missions, which sucks because they were really fun and who knows when the next pack will be out. :P  \m/ \m/

Being able to just stand there cloaked while the zerg wipe out your enemies is one of the best things ever. \m/ \m/ :P

There's also this little MGS easter egg:

Finished Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

It was bloody great, up to the end. Well, there was a slight dip in quality/pacing at the 10th/11th hour, but it picked up again for the ending, now I've just got the really fun side activities to do. Great game.

I'm on the verge of getting married but I'm cockblocked by winter.

^ best thing anyone's ever said

Do I need to have played Legacy of the Void for these? The full mission pack is cheap enough for me to wanna get them but I don't want to spoil plot points from LotV or whatever.

Nothing major, HotS is more important IMO, as LotV is just Protoss doing Protoss stuff. :P I don't know about future packs though, but this one is pretty safe. :P

Just finished Ass Creed 4.5: Rogue. That was ok I guess. Pretty short. I wish the overall story in these games was a little more clear and thought out.

I imagine that having the people responsible for coming up with it spread across like 7 different timezones must make it pretty difficult to brainstorm a coherent overall narrative.

I just completed Sherlock Holmes: Crime and Punishment on XO. It was a free game with gold, which I got one month of for £1 so it didn't owe me much, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a point and click, which was my favourite sort of game, but i've not played one for ages. I came to the correct conclusion for each case, and never got into the situation where you're wondering around revisiting places wondering what to do, so it was quite easy for the genre. Having said that, some of the QTEs and minigames were rock hard, needing fast reflexes and pinpoint accuracy, which didn't fit the pace of the game or the target audience i'd imagine. I'll look for similar games, or by the same developer, so i guess that's as much praise as you can give.

Super Mario 3D Land.

Holy shit, this game is great! I was initially planning on playing it slowly, a level or two here and there, without making it my main focus. But when my copy got here tuesday, I fired it up just to try it and ended up not playing anything else until I finished it. I really dug how the level design was a throwback to old-school 2D Mario without actually being a side-scroller. I haven't played a lot of modern Mario games but I thought this style was much better than the formula I was used to (Mario 64 and Sunshine, basically).

Now I kinda want to play 3D World, though. At first I liked how short the levels were but now that it's over I really want to play something similar but on a bigger scale. I wonder if my cousin would let me borrow his Wii U... Oh well, at least I still have the Special worlds to work through. Think I'll hold off a bit on playing those, though. I'm on the last dungeon of Persona Q and I'd really like to finish it before Dark Souls III comes out.

I finally, FINALLY beat XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within.  It only took me five tries spread out over several years.  Also, the ending cutscene kept crashing on me and for a bit there I thought I wasn't going to be able to get the achievement for beating it.  Not funny, Firaxis.  Fortunately, verifying the files solved that problem.

The ending sucked, by the way.  After all that trouble I expect to see people throwing parades in my honor, or at least for someone to tell me I did a good job defending the entire human race.  Nope, nothing.

Since I've been going through my backlog lately to kill time until the next steam sale happens, I went ahead and got through AVGN Adventures.  I was perfectly capable of running it on my old PC too, of course, but I just never got around to it.  Figured since I bought it, I might as well play it.  Also, the second one just came out and it looked fun so I wanted to get that, but not before beating the original.
