toxicitizen
Fuck that man, this is the internet. Make rash declarations you eventually go back on and deny. I'm really looking forward to No Man's Sky release, by the way. Maybe I should go take screenshots of the thread before you go back and edit all the evidence away. But seriously, the Wii U hate is a bit baffling to me. I mean, I guess I can't really put myself in the shoes of early adopters. But right now it has enough games I want to play for me to consider getting one once I get a job. Especially if the NX ends up being backwards compatible, since, unlike the Wiimote, they're not selling the gamepad separately.
TheMightyEthan
I said from the day I bought a Wii U that I'll be happy as long as I get a Zelda out of it and a sequel to the SM64/Sunshine/Galaxy line of Mario games. Well I haven't gotten the Mario game, and while I am getting a Zelda it's also on the NX which means I could have skipped the Wii U entirely. At the time I felt like I was setting the bar pretty low, and Nintendo still didn't manage to make it.
TCP
Yeah, I think it comes down to not feeling like I got my money's worth out of the Wii U. I'd wager to bet a lot of other Wii U owners feel the same. For me the final straw was delaying Breath of the Wild to time it out with the NX. When you have a small base of customers, and you make a lot of them upset, I don't see how you can possibly move ahead.
Strangelove
I had my Wii U for about a year and can't say I missed it too much when I sold it. In retrospect, I liked the Wii a lot more. I did like the hardware though. I thought the controller was cool and sometimes useful.
TheMightyEthan
The one thing I'll say for the Wii U is that offscreen play can come in damn handy. If it hadn't been so underpowered and had actually gotten multiplats it probably would have been my main console this gen for that reason alone. Strangelove
The problem with that is that the screen and resolution on the Wii U gamepad was pretty crappy. Not to mention that I have a Vita and remoteplay works really well.
TheMightyEthan
Vita remote play has too much latency for my tastes, at least for any game that's even remotely action oriented. It's fine if that's all that's available, but the Wii U's works so much better. You're right though, the screen is pretty bad.
toxicitizen
Isn't the range for the Wii U's remote play terrible, though? From what I heard, you pretty much have to be in the same room or something like that?
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, same room pretty much, or directly on the other side of the wall from the console. It's inconvenient, but for most of the games I play the Vita's too latency-y so the extra range doesn't really help. Though it was super cool to be able to play DA:I on my Vita from my parents' house.
TCP
Vita remote play works great for me, almost seemless. Get your internet checked, Ethan! Or move to one of those Google Fibre cities! Edited June 20, 2016 by The Cowboy Poet
TheMightyEthan
There's too much latency even on PSTV with hardwired LAN. There's too much latency if I connect directly to the PS4 without going through my network. Digital Foundry tested it and the encoding by itself, without any network delay, adds about 100ms of latency between input and seeing the results when playing remotely. Strangelove
Wii U game pad streams way better than Vita and PS4, it's not even close. But I think it's good enough on Vita.
Mister Jack
Despite doing the same thing, comparing the streaming of the ps4 and the Wii U is like apples and oranges. One of them is meant to work over long distances and the other isn't. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
danielpholt
Got rid of my Wii U a few weeks ago after it being basically unused since Bayonetta II came out and I've not missed it at all. In fact, it's likely cost Nintendo a sale on the NX (at least for a few years). Got it on launch day and I think I've played maybe 9 games on it. The off-screen play is a cool idea in theory, but the gamepad is basically the ugliest screen I've played a game on in years. I get their going for convenience, but if I'm that interested in playing a game and my main TV isn't available, I'll just move the console into a different room and play it on a screen that doesn't make me want to scratch my own eyes out. TheFlyingGerbil
I bought BoxBoy! It got great reviews when it was released and now it's half price as the sequel is out (soon?). Also bought fast racing Neo, and boy the the videos not do it justice, it is so fast even on the first cup. I'm going to be very bad at it. deanb
I've picked up Ghostbusters, for a barely the price of a Greggs pasty, and Starpoint Gemini 2 which seemed a kind of relaxed sort of space faring game compared to the "learn trajectories n shit" you get in Elite. Eleven
From the PSN flash sale. $11.99 is a good price for any game. Got it and will be playing it next month.
