TheMightyEthan
Yeah, the disc version just came out this week. Hella.

TheMightyEthan
That's strange... They were waiting until the whole game was out, plus they've put some extra work into it (like the lipsync patch that thankfully everyone gets), not to mention all the extra physical items in the Limited Edition. toxicitizen
Fuck it. Better not disappoint me, Jon Blow!
TheFlyingGerbil
On the massive douche nozzle front he will certainly never disappoint: "Unfortunately we won’t have preorders on PSN, because apparently developers have to set those up months in advance and we didn’t know that! The preorders are regular price! They contain an amazing bonus pack-in: the warm fuzzy feeling that you have pre-ordered the game. (And that’s all). So it’s exactly the same as buying the game at launch, except earlier." Him and the price mean I'm in no rush to buy what would no doubt be a game I would enjoy. toxicitizen
I'm not sure I see what the problem is with that joke but your dislike of the man has been noted.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I'm confused by that too.
TheFlyingGerbil
Maybe it's because I already don't like him but the first paragraph makes it seem like he thinks he's above such petty things as how to actually sell his game, especially as he seems to have been working with Sony as he was at their conference and is on their console first. The second, that we should just be grateful that he is letting the great unwashed experience his genius. But I will readily admit that I am predisposed to be annoyed by anything he says and had this come from a developer I liked it may have come across as cute for me. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I just took it as "Lol, silly us, we done goofed, but luckily you're not actually missing out on anything".

TheMightyEthan
I, too, caved and bought the Witness. And also, yes I did steal FLD's link for that image.
toxicitizen
I already don't like him Why, though? I mean, I get that some people think he's pretentious or whatever, but as far as I'm aware he's never done or said anything to actually warrant people disliking him that much. Like, Phil Fish was asking for it every goddamn time he opened his mouth. What did Jon Blow do? And also, yes I did steal FLD's link for that image. If only imgur allowed you to change what a url points to... Edited January 26, 2016 by FLD
TheFlyingGerbil
I feel the opposite way about the two of them than I believe most people do. It was from watching that documentary film with them in. I felt fish was just trying to make the best game he could and events conspired against him and from outside the film (twitter etc) maybe he didn't convey he passion he had for his game in the best way but it was obvious he cared about what he was doing. Blow just came across as supremely arrogant: less passionate about the game itself and saw it just as a vessel for his own talent which he would happily have poured into anything that gave him the recognition he believed he so richly deserved. TheMightyEthan
I'll agree that Fish was passionate, but that doesn't excuse being an asshole.
toxicitizen
I watched that movie twice and I never got that vibe from Blow... As for Fish, even though I understand how much stress he must've been under at the time, he still proved himself to be a gigantic ass time and time again afterwards. Fez was great, though. I'm glad I didn't let my negative view of him keep me from playing it. Anyway! So far, The Witness in a nutshell: I'm solving puzzles left and right but like half the time I just end up going "Did... did that do anything anywhere?" I started over and replayed the first 20mins and made sure to pay close attention to how everything was before, and there's still a few that I have no idea wtf they did. It's great! TheFlyingGerbil
So is it a bit like myst then?
toxicitizen
Yeah, that's the best comparison that comes to mind. It's fairly open, so if you get stuck you can just go explore and find something else to try. I feel like it's probably a bit less obtuse but I haven't played Myst since I was a little kid and back then I wasn't so much playing it as clicking on random things until I got bored. So, it's hard to say for sure.
toxicitizen
Grabbed the 15$ tier of the Firaxis Humble Bundle, which mainly includes and some other junk. Mostly games I already owned but also the last few bits of Civ V DLC I was missing for the Complete Edition to be, well, uh.. complete. Kind of a bummer that it was a single Steam key per bundle tier, though. I was hoping to give all the XCOM EU stuff to a friend of mine but every single key had something I wanted for myself in it. :/
deanb
It's a really good bundle, but I already have 90% of the games(cos it's a good bundle)
TheMightyEthan
Got Rise of the Tomb Raider: Temple of the Witch with some of the $30 XBL credit that I still have no idea where it came from.
Hot Heart
Yes, that is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer board game. Yes, that is a blurry photo from the seller on eBay. There are actually two Buffy board games. One is the typical "roll and move" kind of crap that you'd expect Hasbro to churn out for any licensed game. This, however, is an early version of the "one person plays the villain, the rest the heroes" style of game from designers who would later go on to have a hand in Betrayal at the House on the Hill, Risk Legacy and Pandemic Legacy. People with an interest in telling stories with their games. And that's what this does. It features four different villains with their own scenarios, while the Scooby gang tries to survive and stop them. The heroes run around trying to research things and find weapons while the villain manoeuvres their own servants (Spike, etc.) and vampires/other creatures around Sunnydale, trying to stop them. There's daylight/nighttime phases (relevant to vampires and werewolves) and the chance that a good player can be turned into a vampire. Sounds p fun all in all. This auction also came with the Angel board game but that really does sound like the aforenentioned licensed rubbish. Fortunately, the whole lot wasn't too bad a price and I expect this should hold its value anyway. toxicitizen
Coming out Feb 24th, pre-order is up for 20 bucks. I was kind of hoping it would be a bit earlier in the month but I'd probably just end up ignoring it in favor of XCOM 2, so it doesn't really make much of a difference. Now let me buy Danganronpa, too! Hopefully SpikeChunsoft will follow NIS' example and price it reasonably.
