TheMightyEthan
I'm so jealous of all these people who are actually able to get Pokemon. *Edit - It was pretty hilarious to see how many other people were out doing it even in our little podunk town. Every single other person we saw had their phone out, and we even talked to one guy about it. I'd seen stories of people talking to random strangers while playing Pokemon go and thought "I would literally never do that" but apparently "literally never" means "within 10 minutes of starting". danielpholt
Has anyone ran Into any trouble whilst playing? Had a guy today who didn't seem too enthusiastic about his wife playing along. Walking around the corner trying to catch a Pidgey and he looks me square in the eye, grins and then says to his wife/gf 'You need to grow the fuck up' Me and the lady smiled, but couldn't help but wonder why so aggressive. Also.. ... Fuck sake.
TheMightyEthan
I've now talked to 4 random strangers about the game, and all of them have been positive interactions.
deanb
Hey at least there's a Meowth in that mix. I'm very much in Pallet town unless I head out to the local park or the river (which I'm yet to do cos the river is a fair bit away). We actually bumped into a few folks out near our house (have a Gym 2 doors down) last night. First guy wasn't playing but was curious as he'd seen so much about it and I guess "you can see pokemon in the real world" sounded a bit weird to him without seeing a practical example. Went for a gander, came back n two other guys were hanging around, asked if playing pokemon. Mentioned we'd dumped ourselves on this gym and the guy was ecstatic cos he'd finally found my housemate, which he knew from portals or whatever in Ingress. He was quite low level n despite being opposite team my two housemates went off to help him take down a gym (I was already heading home before the first guy so I went home cos it'd been a couple hours that point). One of the groups we met on Monday was a 20-something couple, it was the boyfriend playing, the girlfriend didn't really get it but was happy for the walk around the park. guy you met sounds like an absolute knob. For Android users there's a new update out, so if you're in an unofficial release country then you'll want to grab it from here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/niantic-inc/pokemon-go/pokemon-go-0-29-2-release/pokemon-go-0-29-2-android-apk-download/
danielpholt
Guess what? Try as I might, I cannot get my GF to come with me on my adventures. I know I'm occasionally getting my phone out, but I fail to see the downside here.
TheMightyEthan
My wife made fun of me at first, but now is just as into it as I am. Maybe moreso.
deanb
So what are folks thoughts on this Holocaust museum issue? I personally think Niantic have handled it quite well in pointing out there is a way to remove yourself as a Gym/Stop/Portal. Given the nature of the game there's no way to manually vet the millions of stops around the globe. I think on the opposite site it's quite cool to see places embracing their status as a Gym, such as libraries encourage people to visit, battle for the Gym, get some books out while they're there (and given it's now summer holidays it's a fairly simple event to set up. There's loads of Pokemon books n such too). There's also small cafes doing discounts if you put a Lure down (since it encourages people to come over and hang around for a good 30 minutes or so). There's that article about issue of "late stage capatalism" which I totally disagree with giving it's getting so many people out and about and hey after an hour or so of pokemon hunting you're gonna want a drink or bite to eat and you're not gonna go to Japan to get that. (I personally feel the article was half written then Go became a thing and editor was like "rewrite this to cover Pokemon instead, it's getting more clicks").
Mister Jack
There's a way for pokestops to remove themselves?
deanb
Seems it's for public places that aren't keen on being a stop such as churches, museums, schools etc. I imagine getting a bench or similar removed would be harder.
TheMightyEthan
There's a form on the website to request removal.

Mister Jack
Man someone put a lure down at the local Chick-Fil-A when I went there for lunch today and those things REALLY work.
deanb
They're on almost constantly around town, especially anywhere students congregate, and the local park n stadium too (which I just got a Parasect from today).
Mister Jack
I've read that there are going to be "sponsored" pokestops where businesses will pay a small fee for every user to Niantic in exchange for being a "lure spot" or something like that. They haven't really finalized how it's going to work but one way or another they're going to be letting companies use Pokemon Go as a form of advertising. CrowKnow
Super fascinating to see how the game has blown up. Went downtown to a hotspot for the first time the other day and the stories I've read online of hundreds of people playing at midnight don't seem so Farfetch'd. Excited to see where it goes or even if it phases out like a fad it was cool to see happen and take a small part in.
Mal
Almost every night my brother goes out with his friends to romp around downtown or SF State for Pokemon GO. I've seen planned meetups. I've seen even my folks and older family members playing. Shit is weird and I can't tell if it is a fad or will it have staying power. There has to be something to having people actually go outside and you know, interact with people. A biggie is parents with their kids. This sort of thing is almost perfect to spending time with the kids. Go outside, walk around, have some snacks and have a decent time. If you want an adult version, do a pub crawl. I think this game just needs some better game mechanics.
Mister Jack
Who else has had that dilemma where you hit a pokemon with a pokeball, and then it just drops to the ground and doesn't move as if the poor thing suffocated inside the ball? Obviously it's a server thing, but this was the first Ghastly I've seen since the game launched and I don't know whether I should just leave the app open and wait several hours to see if the problem fixes itself when peak time is over or if there's no point and I should just kill the app and cut my losses. CorgiShinobi
Like where the ball will just sit there? Yeah, it happens. So long as no one else is around to catch it, at least from my experience, you could start the game up again and find it. Maybe I've just been lucky. TheMightyEthan
If it freezes after the Pokemon is in the ball wait for the loading symbol to vanish and the restart the game. Usually the Pokemon will be in your collection, but if not it's typically still there to try to catch again.

Teenagers, kids, kids with their parents, parents without kids (or adults in the late 20s/early 30s stage). I didn't really get into any of the Pokemon games, so the game is kind of just meh for me, but even if I wasn't into it if I had friends who go out daily I would probably end up joining them as well.
