Johnny
I'd be fine with it if it was a much larger area and duration. As it is, you either fumble around in the dark or hit Z all the time. Both of those options are tedious.
Hot Heart
Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, I guess that would be handy.
Faiblesse Des Sens
... What? My complaint is that the medallion is dumb because it makes me mindlessly press z every once in a while. It's boring and dumb game design. It has nothing to do with how positive the effects of pressing z mindlessly is: it could turn everything around me into gold, it would still be a mindless and repetitive task. Â I'm on the second act and I know what to look for now in terms of doors, items, etc, so I rarely use it. It gives you hints for places of power (medallion vibration) which is the only thing you need to activate it for. Everything else can be seen, just not easily such as traps, corpses, etc. That's how it was in the first game, too. After a while, I didn't bother much with the labels. deanb
http://en.thewitcher.com/community/entry/178  Enhanced Edition pre-downloader now ready. It'll grab 10GB of the patch now (a bit more if you want it in other languages) and then the final few hundred megabytes on the 17th.  The 17th is the day you can get the Witcher 2 backup too. http://www.gog.com/en/page/witcherbackup  (oh and it's the day it goes multi-plat too, so you 360 guys better be picking it up) http://www.gog.com/news/spring_conference - Watch this to see some of the 360 footage as well as what it'll be coming with in the box. Yantelope V2
Cool, I'll have to do that when I get home. I didn't realize the files are going to be 10GB. Youch.
deanb
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-the-witcher-2-tech-analysis  Digital Foundry look at Witcher 2 on PC and 360. Obviosly PC blows the 360 out the water, but damn is it a pretty decent port (it looks like they've even gone in and retextured parts too to keep the detail up.) Johnny
There's something critical missing in the 360 version. You might have to zoom in. Â Â Â Geralt's teeth. Â
Yantelope V2
the lighting in the 360 looks better to me. Â Edit, okay after reading the article the lighting is better because they've redone it for the EE and the comparison shot is not of the EE PC version. Waldorf and Statler
Ok for those who are somewhat veterans in this game. Any tips you can give me? I've heard too many things about this game being hard to attempt anything beyond normal on the first playthrough. Â Keep in mind that apparently the Quen [?] spell has been nerfed so telling me to put all my points on that wouldn't be as obvious as before. From what I see in the other recommendations, I should focus on blade and magic. Some people don't recommend I put points on parry but what do you guys think? deanb
http://steamcommunit...=shortcut_16060 Â I think that maybe, just maybe, the EE update might be fucked. Â edit: Looking about this is basically an issue with the EE patch itself, but not necessarily the EE version. So if you use the backup on GOG it should run fine (which I'm downloading now). If you're going to be patching: hold off.
Yantelope V2
ugh, maybe I'll just go get the backup. Apparently that's the only true DRM free version anyway.
TheMightyEthan
How do you get the GoG backup version?
Eleven
You can get the GoG backup even if you have it on Steam? I demand answers! Â EDIT: I will provide answers!!! Â http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2655783 Â That is awesome. These guys are awesome. Steam version is the only one with DRM. Â @Ethan: http://www.gog.com/witcher2/backup/ (I linked it, along with a few other bits n bobs) on the previous page. TheMightyEthan
As if I can be expected to check previous pages. This is the internet! Simply ask questions and other people will do the work of finding the answers for you!

Well, all those other versions have the DRM patched out by the 1.1 patch. The GOG version has no DRM. They said something about it at the presser. deanb
How many people will miss out on the patch though? Once you're past 1.1 the retail and GOG versions are exactly the same.

From what I see in the other recommendations, I should focus on blade and magic. Some people don't recommend I put points on parry but what do you guys think? Â From what I understood, they may have nerfed Quen a bit but it is still very useful. The big change was regarding stamina and blocking, I think; putting a greater emphasis on blocking, parrying and dodging by allowing you to do it more frequently. I would consider the parry, countering stuff pretty essential but then I haven't played it since a few updates back.
deanb
So I've not played in a while and thus had to spend a fair while tweaking my settings. Turns out doesn't matter if I lower the resolution or not, so I'm running 1080p like ass instead of 720 like ass. Wooh! God I need a new GPU at some point. Faiblesse Des Sens
Wow, people actually bought this on Steam? I thought we were supposed to be the well informed minority? Â Anyways, I'd get the counter attacks and stuff and the group attack, but then from there you don't necessarily need anything else from the sword category unless you want it. I think as long as you really do focus on one area to a large degree your build should be fine.
TheMightyEthan
Steam has ridiculous sales. Also Steam DRM doesn't bother me, so it's not incentive to purchase it elsewhere. Â Though actually I didn't buy it on Steam, I had it gifted. But those are reasons I might have bought it on Steam anyway.
Faiblesse Des Sens
What about supporting the developers?
Yantelope V2
I bought it on amazon for dirt cheap. I wanted the GOG version but it never got down to $14 or whatever Amazon had it for. Now i have the GOG version too anyway so no regrets.
TheMightyEthan
What about supporting the developers? Â At the same price, sure I'd buy it straight from GoG instead of Steam, but I wouldn't go out of my way to pay extra for it on there.. Even though I'm sure they get less from a Steam purchase than a GoG purchase (obviously, as they get all the money from a GoG purchase) it's not like they don't get anything. Faiblesse Des Sens
Personally I'm willing to pay more for my money to go to the right place. If I only wanted a copy of the game and didn't care about where my money was going I'd just pirate it.
