Ugh, it has been a nightmare updating the game to the Enhanced Edition. I downloaded the files manually, and the patch-2 file was bloody corrupt, and then the auto downloader which is supposed to be downloading the corrupt files, downloaded the working patch-2 file. Now I've tested and all the files are normal, except patch-26 which is corrupt, and I've redownloaded it about 5 times and its STILL corrupt.

Alrighty so I just got to Chapter 2 at long last. I sided with the elves. Can someone explain like I'm five what exactly is going on in the story? I just picked the elves 'cause they looked cooler. My poor brain is having trouble keeping up... :(

I assume we're talking the second game.

Firstly, I guess watching this will help because it covers the big plot points in the first game (it says part 2 but I have no idea what part 1 would be)

Apologies if that is already in the enhanced edition

In terms of what is happening in during the first part of 2. I'll just go over everything in some sort of sequence, so apologies if you know some stuff already.

Also, a lot of the story is about not knowing exactly what is going on and just trusting your instincts (with stuff falling into place much later). It's part of the reason I was describing the game as working like a fantasy film noir/detective thriller. Plus, if you want a little more insight, the journal entries on characters and places are well-written and interesting as well as being useful.

EPIC THING INCOMING.

Geralt is working in service of Foltest, after saving his life from the assassin Witcher at the end of the first game (not wise to refuse a king's request). Foltest is waging war to get back his bastard children from the La Valette stronghold. During the siege, a dragon attacks, rebel elves (Scoia'tael) are somehow involved and another Witcher assassin manages to kill Foltest, with Geralt taking the blame. The kingdoms are in great unrest too, so all this killing is really stirring up shit.

From here, Roche, like a superspy for Foltest's kingdom of Temeria, trusts Geralt and helps him escape the dungeon so they can head after the assassin who Geralt suspects is working with the elves he had spotted. This brings them to Flotsam.

Flotsam is commanded by Loredo, who Roche suspects is corrupt. There is a thing with a monster and the sorceress Silé that might not seem relevant really, but bear it in mind. When Triss is kidnapped you can then choose to either ally with Roche or Ioverth. Siding with the scoia-tael, though, means that the Temerians, such as Roche, will not be happy with you (but you probably already guessed that). It is also revealed that Loredo had been helping Kaedwen which borders Temeria. (Kaedwen is ruled by the brash, beardy King Henselt you glimpse at the start of chapter 2)

So, with your decision to go with Ioverth you wind up in the dwarven town of Vergen which is in Aedirn. Aedirn is where King Demavend ruled before the big, beefy assassin Witcher killed him (on that boat in that CGI video intro), and it was also his head that he was showing to Ioverth in chapter 1. Because Aedirn was left without a ruler it was weakened and there were to be talks with King Henselt to prevent an invasion. These talks involved Stennis (Demavend's son) and Saskia, who had reportedly slayed a dragon and was fighting off the Kaedweni army. As you probably witnessed, things got a little crazy and some old curse was reawakened, separating the Kaedweni army and the Aedirnian forces across a battlefield.

It's then only a matter of time before Henselt invades Vergen...

I probably missed a few incidental details, but I hope that helps and covers enough...

Feel free to ask any other questions. Just keep in mind that the game is really meant to be played through twice in order to see all the angles to the story, so I don't want to say too much.

I just re-downloaded the entire game using the GoG Downloader and it went fine. The updater just kept failing.

That's what I'm doing now yeah. Had to send in a picture of my Witcher 2 2.0 version as it doesn't come with any codes. Still annoying. Seems there's still quite a few problems with the Enhanced Edition anyway when you actually get the damn thing running.

Like what? I know people have had borked installs on Steam and stuff. I finished act 2 and now I'm in act 3 with no problems. Runs the same.

Waldorf: That's what's great about this series. It's grey. There is no right or wrong answer. I plan on going back and doing a Roche playthrough.

This. People make a big deal about "choice" and "morality" in games, but really, The Witcher 2 is the only game to get it right. Your actions have consequences, but it's never the "save orphanage or light a box of puppies on fire" polarity. What happens is what happens, and it's up to the player to decide whether they chose poorly or correctly.

Started Chapter III and before anything doing any mission I already have the best armor in the game and and silver, steel swords that will be as good as they can get before doing more missions.

Oh and by the way, I found a certain character called The Operator.

WHO THE FUCK DECIDED IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE THIS BOSS FIGHT? HE SEEMS OUT OF DARK SOULS IN TERMS OF DIFFICULTY

I can name some older games I feel does it right. VTMB, for example. :)

FDS is the "I don't see a problem. Works fine for me" guy.

Thank you Hot Heart, that was much more helpful than the wiki summary. Gonna dive back in shortly.

Don't mention it! I was a bit lost for a while, so don't think you're a bit dumb for not following. I like having to play catch-up sometimes, it can be way more interesting that way. Especially since the whole story does have a few twists and turns here and there that you won't discover after one playthrough.

Finished the game on Roche's side. Don't know if I'm gonna do Iorveth's side since the plot that interests me is really only important in Act III and it should be about the same for both sides.

Great game, and I'm glad that now I know CD Projekt said their next titles will be available on next gen consoles [ps4/xbox 720]. If something happens and it's only released on the nextbox, then I guess I'm going with them again. Shouldn't be a problem since I assume part of the reason it was only released on the 360 was more due to them not wanting to complicate themselves with ps3 coding, while the 360 and PC are so close. Which should [if rumors hold true] not be a problem in the next gen.

maybe. Right now I'm burned out from the Witcher since I beat it in one weekend haha. I mean I have nothing else to play before I set out for my internship next month so I'll probably end up playing it.

I just hate the Scoia'tel. With a passion. And me and Roche were such bros throughout his side,

hahahaha

I love how that's the go-to sentiment in this game. I hate this group of terrorists= racism.

Ves and Roche were just hunting the scoia'tel because it's their mission. Iorveth is straight up racist and "AllaAAAAAAAAH". I hear from Johnny his friends are pretty tight though so hopefully that'll be cool.

Yeah it is all due to the point of view. The novels and short stories made me hate the Scoia'tel. The humans are no better since a grand majority of them pair up the non-humans with the Scoia'tel.

It sounds like ya REALLY need to try Iorveth's side then. You learn so much about the "terrorists".

Did I just buy this game again, for the 360?

Yes I did! Hooray for not being broke!

I can't find the time to rebuild my desktop, so I thought this game's gonna have to wait as I can't stand it on my laptop (which plays Skyrim awesome btw!). But I went to my favorite store and they have 1 in stock, so I bought it!

The quest handbook is cool, although SPOILERS! It's gonna have to wait. Cool map too!
