The Witcher

I wouldn't get my hopes up, even if you meet those requirements, considering that Witcher 2 was such a hog. Official requrements for that game weren't very steep at the time, yet even the more high end PCs chugged like hell.

And I tremble in horror at the thought that this is going to be an open world game...

Yeah, Witcher 2 had settings at launch that people weren't meant to be able to turn on at the time. That's certainly something to take into account when talking about performance and optimization. Meeting the recommended specs doesn't automatically mean "4K + 60fps with everything cranked way up and max AA".

Watching this video makes me think about two things:

1. Is Dragon Age 3 trying to outdo Wticher 3 or is Witcher 3 trying to outdo Dragon Age 3?

2. Dialogue in the english version truly saddens me. No wonder so many people treat it like a LOTR rip off, when these accents sound like the most generic LOTR knock-off in the universe. The Witcher is based on slavic folklore, so the characters sound way more unique and natural in the original Polish.

Two expansions, around 30hrs of extra content, announced.

Some on the net are losing their God Damned minds over this announcement...thinking they should be free because they are "technically DLC." Those who think that have to be too young to remember when expansion packs, with more content than a simple map pack/horse armor, was the norm.

You're much kinder than me. When it's the gaming community AND is on the internet, I just assume they're fucking idiots. Especially when they're losing their shit this intensely over not only video games but also what's pretty much a non-issue.

My only concern with the game was the guy at Eurogamer who played it said the console/pad controls were a bit... fiddly, or at least poorly thought-out. Like calling a horse with clicking the right thumbstick so it interrupts your normal move/attack animations or not easily being able to tell if you're locked on to an enemy which makes all the difference when you want to roll instead of a small dodge step. That said, this was a while back so maybe that's been improved on.

Recent impressions I've read say that the combat is really solid, they never mentioned those issues you said. I hope it's the case.

Seriously though, that trailer got me really excited.

Is this open world like Skyrim or "open world" like Dragon Age Inquisition?

The map:

The map is split into several smaller maps, with two main ones. FIrst main one is bigger than Skyrim, we don't know how big the second main portion is. I think this picture only shows the first main map with two smaller maps embedded. There are a handful of smaller areas, like prologue type stuff.

Looking pretty bloody huge.

I had no idea there was even sailing in it until the other day. So goddamn excited. They say there's almost no sandboxey stuff/events, so that disappoints me quite a bit. Not even like people randomly fighting dragons in Skyrim. But I think the world will be crafted to a different level of quality and that should more than make up for it. Sure did in The Witcher 2.

That's great!

Evidently the top right of the red area is the main game area - the islands way in the South West is the other huge area which is some 12,000km away from the other area. The rest of it is bits and bobs loaded in their own instances.

Also, information which totally refutes what I said earlier about the world not being dynamic

(Apparently it's very dynamic. Monster NPCs will attack non-monster NPCs, etc, creatures will fight creatures, etc, but they all have very well developed tic-tactical AI, so they will avoid any fights they don't think they'll win - developer talk for 'they wont fight it was too hard to program'?)
