Saturnine Tenshi
I think I got a bad fucking DVD. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16621290/sigh_witcher%20copy.png

deanb
...meanwhile in an Animus session...http://i.imgur.com/bzGGA.jpg  rather than a 3rd post: https://www.dropbox....er%202?h=85e0d1  Coin is metal, has a Cthulu design on the back. It smells great, the box is about 2" deep (I measured) The QR code for trailer is a nice touch on the packaging. The pamphlet has a fuax wax seal, didn't feel it was required to take another picture of. All in all pretty sweet.  Oh yeah paper craft number 2 that I got was Dandelion. I'll post an image when done.
Hot Heart
I hope mine fits through the letterbox...although I guess I'm in no rush to get it right now. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
So how is it so far?
deanb
Instillation went smoothly. Dunno so far, got folks coming round to check out the house so don't want to be mid-game when they arrive. Â They're due 2-3 (aka this hour) if folks want then at about 3:30/4:00PM GMT I can do a live stream of the starting half-hour-1hr?
Hot Heart
I think I got a bad fucking DVD. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16621290/sigh_witcher%20copy.png  That's what I hate about PC gaming. Didn't have much luck in the last year with a couple of releases.  - Just Cause 2: my PC just wouldn't read the disc, every other system I tried could. Though, fortunately, it had Steamworks so I activated and downloaded that way.  - NFS: Hot Pursuit: had to fiddle with core affinity to stop it crashing due to poor coding and then wait for a patch to add the weather effects in.  At least they got resolved though. Saturnine Tenshi
I took it back and got another copy. Same problem. It may be my disc drive. But eh, I don't mind the extra effort — even considering how incensed I can get while troubleshooting — when I'm working toward a better overall experience wrt platform.  Anyhow, my PC is gutted, and my roommate's disc drive is hanging out like some sloppy, steaming entrails. Going through the install now.

Pirandello
The game took over an hour to install for me after I downloaded it off GoG. Â On top of that, it looks great. The combat is very tactical (and painful, since I'm not good at it). The game seemingly crashed-to-desktop on me during the Assault tutorial mission. Poo. Â EDIT: Oh lordy. It likes crashing a lot. Pirandello
Insane difficulty level was a bad idea. Just there for the hardcores. Â On another note, I look in one direction at a guy, do a quick 360, and then I see that same guy reloading his textures all over again. Â Stutters galore. But the game looks and plays fantastic (when it isn't stuttering).
excel_excel
So I'm playing Witcher 1 again and during chapter 1 while doing all the side quests and main quests, its CLICKED. I'm enjoying myself! Maybe I just have to get in that Witcher grove, where I accept the shit. Or something. Seriously though. It fucking sucks till then though. Should a game be judged on a shit opening part?....yes. Yes it should. We judge games on excellent openings too! I told ya ya would if ya kept at it.
deanb
Yeah, once you pick up a few signs and get the combat down to pat you get into the groove, figure out how to advance time, do potions, the flow of conversations. It's very different to other RPGs. (not helped by the fact most RPG's of late are made by one of 3 companies) so I think getting into the groove means getting rid of the shackles of the other games. Primarily the convo flow of Bioware games. Â As for Wticher 2 I've only given it's a short spin. You can easily spot it's on a new engine The combat though, I'm not too keen on. I kinda liked the first games, it had it's grace n simplicity. I didn't play Witcher for the combat. But Witcher 2 is all action-orientated in the combat and you're having to dodge n parry n be aiming at the right guy n everything. I'm not too keen. MAybe I'll get used to it. Still got to beat the first Witcher before that though.
Pirandello
Holy crap, the combat in Witcher 2 is amazing; it's freaking fun and damn rewarding. I just single-handedly fought off an army of nekkers and I felt like a true badass. Â Then I killed off an ambush of Scoia'tael and it increased ten-fold. Booya. Mr. GOH!
The combat in W2 is pretty neat, though it's hard if you don't know what you're doing. Better than the first game's combat by light years. It's not the sorta combat I wanna see in every RPG. Â Also, the game plays very very nicely with a gamepad, to the point that it's obviously built to be ported to consoles so the dirty peasants can enjoy it. Â I've had very few issues with it, mainly some texture pop-in (though LA Moore's s worse) and some stuttering when streaming new areas. Nothing bad, though. Oh, and the configuration utility insists the optimum settings on my rig should be on low, which is crazy. I'm playing on high with no significant performance issues. No crashes in the three hours I played last night.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Insane difficulty level was a bad idea. As soon as I read that, Ron Burgandy popped up in my head. "Milk was a bad choice!"
Hot Heart
What I don't like, from the sounds of it, is block being linked to endurance/vigour/stamina/whatevershityouwanttocallit. That was part of the reason I disliked Morrowind. Although, it sounds like dodging is 'free'.
Saturnine Tenshi
Vigor is what you're looking for. And I was like 'WHY CANT I FRIGGIN' BLOCK!?' Pissed me off for a while. The combat is what I expected: real hack 'n' slashy. Playing on hard, though... you have to be very careful.
SomTervo
95 on Metacritic. Â Again, I've known how good this series is meant to be, but haven't had a good enough rig to play it. Bowed out of PC gaming a long time ago for reasons like what Hot Heart mentioned before. Â Still, at some point in the hopefully not-too-distant future, I'll definitely be catching up on my Witcher action. The tone of it sounds directly up my alley. I love darker fantasy. Game of Thrones was putting me right in the mood for this.

Hot Heart
I might give it a try with a controller, because it seems the combat is very much about movement and I'm rubbish at WASD.
