I think the combination of sound stealth and visual stealth make it feel huntery. Sneaking up on a boar is a combo of using cover and not stomping around. Feels more nuanced than just avoiding a cone of vision. No idea if Far Cry does the same. Might spend some time gathering materials for crafting this lunch time actually. My GF doesn't like me shooting the animals... :/

Trample them with your robot horse.  Then you can say it was an accident.

I'll say the hunting stuff for crafting, while it starts out kinda nice gets a wee bit fiddly when you're into "rat bone" and "fish skin" territory. Fortunately as best I can currently tell (Though I've not bought a rattler, no idea what's used for) I've got all the expanded bags except one, needing a raccoon skin which isn't too hard. Big thing now is hunting down various beast hearts so I can get the higher end gear, though some of it absolutely requires killing some of the big beasties.

 

Story wise I've gotten past "faro". Mainly sidequesting/errand running atm though and trying to expand my map. I picked up the golden fast past so I can run around a bit easier. I know some would say it's against the nature of the game, but tbh the regular fast travels aren't exactly hard to get materials for so it's not a huge change to the gameplay and it's nice the option is there.

I assume, especially given to buy it requires animal skins n such, that it's mainly aimed at taking out wildlife?

 

In other news, I assume at this point most of us have gotten far enough in the game to find out where we are (the first vantage point kinda confirms it, the second makes it super obvious).

Anywho, not sure if you find it out in the game (I'm guessing you do given I'm pretty sure I know what the mountain vagina leads to) but the Nora are likely descended from...

I've used the rattler mostly for groups of humans or especially ornery machines.  As far as I can tell it's not designed to target weak points or anything, but it can be good at taking off chunks of life in a pinch if you can deal with the fact that it goes through ammo like M&Ms.  I consider it an emergency weapon.

So, really weird. This is a main quest spoiler, but not an endgame spoiler.

 

 

Why does Sylens give you the 'point of no return' talk so early? Is it because the Nora area will be messed up after that quest? It didn't seem to affect many other quest lines or areas. I was all prepared to end the game, and I was, apparently, nowhere near close.

Can you tie it down? Would that help? What worked for you? I find rockbreakers manageable once limbless, but while they can tunnel they are absolute bastards. I've only just got the ropecaster, so learning the... ropes on that tool. Seems very effective though.

For the non-corrupted, my strategy is to knock off their claws with the explosive slingshot amped up with +damage and +tear mods. 

 

Oh, also being overleveled has helped.

 

Side question: why can't the game make up its mind about what to call Tramplers? Some of the text and audio refers to them as Behemoths, while the map and other in-game text refers to them as Tramplers. It's a dumb oversight and confusing. I get why 'trampler' is more in line with naming scheme, since it describes what they do, but I like "Behemoth."

They can't dig up through water. At least for the corrupted zone, there's a stream nearby with a small pile of rocks right beside it. If you stick near the rocks, the rockbreakers can't dig under you, and when they start spitting rocks at you you can duck down behind the rock formation to take cover. From there I just took potshots at their claws, then their vents once they were disabled. I also made sure to only pull one at a time.

Indeed, came across my first Behemoth yesterday. Was being escorted by a longleg. I overrode the longleg before taking on the behmoth, annoyingly the longleg stole the kill. Next time I'll take em both out.

 

Noticed a fun thing with shell walkers the other day as well, if you shoot the bracket holding the container so it falls off, once the shell walker is done looking for you it will pick the container back up and hold it on its head using its lightning gun arm. This serves 2 purposes. 1 it is funny watching him walk off like he is holding a hat on his head and 2. it makes it way easier to attack them.

HZD has been a rousing success and an expansion/sequel (I bet expansion) is in the works.

This is good news. I like the IP a lot and I was very intrigued by some of the fluff about the world beyond the oseram/carja/nora/banuk.

I went exploring the other day and found a place I think I'm not meant to be at for a fair while (I had a cutscene forced combat with a Stormbird and got to a point where it stops providing hand holds).

 

As far as hand holds go, definitely my biggest gripe with the game. And yeah other folks having similar issue, seems that it's pretty bad for colour blind folk since while the yellow can be identified the little pigeon shit ledges blend into nothingness against snowy mountains or orange columns.

Yeah, had to or I'd lose all the way back to a much earlier save (had to pack up my PS4, so no "suspended application" faux-save to help me). It's also why I found out I wasn't meant to be that far since I could then progress to a ancient ruin and find the ledges don't go all the way (yet...at least I assume, might be that just a case of not being able to see them :P) But on the plus side I've a required battle out the way and a camp fire near by to teleport to when that story mission inevitably crops up.

 

(I'm about to crash the focus network, for a clue on how far along I am)

Love that he's Lance Reddick. Such a great voice. And weirdly the only VA with an in-game likeness which is a bit odd (like quite a few of the VA, especially for like side-quest givers n such, are even race swapped).

 

Exposition wise quite a lot of it is through audio logs of the soldiers, which I think are quite well done and written though yeah can be a lot (there's like a room with all the com terminals set up and like 10 audio logs in which is a bit much). I actually prefer them to the "Apocashitstorm" logs (though I do still like those). I'm guessing that "apocashitstorm" logs are Faro, though context suggests so but tone less so. Still I'm intrigued by the story. 

 

Oh one touch I'm liking, I'd sort of noticed it with the scrappers in the earlier areas, is the glinthawks repossessing destroyed machines. Had one battle with a trio of them and one of them just up and took off with the body of its downed brother (did make it slower and easier to shoot though). If they "process" like watchers n such you can see they get these green storage packs on their back too (though not downed one to see if that rewards extra loot). Kinda like that there's an ecosystem there.
