Mal
Apparently the Performance Patch is out and it makes the nearly solid 30 FPS on the PS4 Pro even more so than what was shown in the DF's video I posted. Got to wait for DF to dig into it to see how much of an improvement.

SomTervo
Some of the impressions from people who have the game early across the web are pretty insane. Sounds a lot like the best bits of Shadow of Mordor, The Witcher 3, InFamous, Monster Hunter and Shadow of the Colossus. People saying a lot of the time it looks almost as good as Uncharted 4, sometimes better, and it's an open world game, too. Shit's cray. Mister Jack
Looks like I'm getting this after Nioh. 2017 is turning out to be a pretty good year for Playstation exclusives. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Pojodin
It really has been. I just started Nioh last night and am really enjoying it. Zelda is next, but I may follow that with Horizon.
Mr. GOH!
I shake my head at everyone supporting a zombie IP on a zombie system instead of a new IP on a vibrant and thriving console.

As noted, Aloy is wearing way too much to really be a geordie lass.

deanb
It's from a series of promo images they've done, in this case it's Newcastle (that being Tyne Bridge), which is where I currently reside. Radgie would be a Geordie word for...yob I guess. I guess a more familiar locale: https://twitter.com/PlayStationUK/status/835851926923141121 I quite like the caption for this one (Manchester has two football teams, City and United)https://twitter.com/PlayStationUK/status/835867027969470464 https://twitter.com/PlayStationUK/status/835836830574522368 https://twitter.com/PlayStationUK/status/835791525158105092 https://twitter.com/PlayStationUK/status/835806626086957058 https://twitter.com/PlayStationUK/status/835776428587155456 https://twitter.com/PlayStationUK/status/835821721970102273 And of course on Twitter someone is noting that actually she's on the Gateshead side. (a mistake I learnt not to make early on). No idea if there's similar globally. As for other Geordie stuff I had posted a video about some in English v English in December. Mr. GOH!
LOL. I'm way more hyped for Torment: Tides of Numenera, and I still have to finish my current Dragon Age: Inquisition playthrough before I dive into my new games. Mr. GOH!
Played through the intro zone in this last night. It's pretty neat, so far. Looks good, runs well on the PS4 slim, and the gameplay is fun. The art design is generally great, including human characters' faces. The facial animations, though, are sometimes strange and off-putting, but it's not consistent. It's like they had two teams doing the facial animations and one was competent and the other was made up of people who can't read facial expressions very well at all. The voice acting is spotty, too. Aloy is consistently excellent, but some of the other characters' voices and affect just don't match how their characters look or the setting. It's nowhere near like Oblivion or Skyrim levels of terrible, but it's noticeable, especially after playing games with better voice acting. It's also jarring because I think the writing is pretty good overall. I might sound like I'm complaining, but I'm not; I really enjoyed playing through the long intro section and it's clear that just barely scratches the surface of gameplay and combat options and strategies. Killing robot dinosaurs is satisfying as all get-out.
TheMightyEthan
I don't understand how it took so long for someone to make a game about killing robot dinosaurs. I mean, that is like the most obvious video game thing ever.
Mr. GOH!
HZD is super video game-y, which is not a bad thing at all. Oh, it's also apparent pretty early on that HZD is not Far Cry: Primal: Robot dinosaurs. Aloy is naive and seems primitive because she's raised as an outcast by an outcast warrior, but within a protected idyllic valley. The culture in the valley is a sort of shamanistic back-to-nature type of culture that shuns metal and ancient tech, while the neighboring cultures are very much iron age or even medieval, it seems. Not every culture shuns tech.
Mal
I took a peak at a stream and it looked great. I got spoiled on the above though. Also, something odd and (potentially) spoiler-ish: Is there no active day-night cycle? The streamer mentioned it and the banter talked about how maybe the sky is mechanical in nature as well. Not sure if that is hinted at in the game or something they figured happened.
Mr. GOH!
In response to Mal's spoiler: I haven't seen anything hinting at the sky being artificial. There does not appear to be a traditional day/night cycle, but certain scenes and areas happen at night and others in the day, I think. It's pretty clear that, in the fiction of the game, there are regular days and nights. It's just that if you stand in one place, it won't get darker/or lighter on its own. Edit: Apparently there is a day/night cycle, according to other players, but it seems like the intro zone stayed daylight the whole time for me. Edited March 1, 2017 by Mr. GOH! deanb
PS Access stream I'm only 7 minutes in as of posting this, and the...weapon right near the start is pretty cool. Also turns out it came out today and not on Friday as I thought (turns out they had brought the release forward). I'm struggling not to head into town to pick it up. edit: looks like one of those games to tickle my "let's go exploring".
