Horizon Zero Dawn

The processed blocks are indeed a lootable item Dean.

I got the impression Apocashitstorm logs were just some rando grunt. Not watched them all yet though.

I guess what I'm saying is that up to that mission the story of what happened is more suggested and drip fed, then in that mission you suddenly get this massive info dump. That said, they do lampshade it somewhat by Sylens saying that you found out more in a few minutes than he has in a long time of searching, and as Goh points out, it does make sense where the things are found.

This is pretty cool. Geurilla have up cosplay guide for Rost (and Aloy is floating around too, but due to nature of posting these things on Twitter and not like on a site or anything it's a PITA to get hold of)

Gamewise I'm at the point of Sylens being all "speak now or forever hold your peace" so currently wrapping up a a few sidequests (done all the collectables and cauldrons too, maybe a few corrupted zones and bandit camps left).

Had an epic fight with a Thunderjaw. It's a small touch but I love that boulders and trees get smashed up by larger beasts.

Yeah I completed it last night. And when he's all "you should do errands" it's less the errands in your quest log and more along the lines of "have you put the kids to bed, cleaned the dishes, done your shopping, put the bins out?". It's a bit of a long segment. Great ending to the segment though.

I felt I did quite well here. Would have been cooler if I took out the Redeye as it shot at me, but only stunned it. I also had to do this all over again, though with less grace, because after hitting "Share" to save this I then fell off that ravine. Which I've a similar video on that I think I'll throw up here tomorrow.

In story news I've been to the "cracked mountain" and been vastly expositioned to, gonna wait until I complete before I throw out all my thoughts on the story (loving it atm). I've a feeling I'm nearing the end. Also cos of the recent patch I've finally completed the "Robbing the Rich" quest :P Guerilla are pretty great with patches, they're obviously listening to a lot of community feedback (they've also implemented a "buy multiple" item which is kinda useful early on). Oh one thing is changing "item distribution" which I think means that it should be easier to get some of the bits you need for upgrades and purchases. Ever since I've needed a rat bone I've not come across a single rat. :/

Good point, I really need a Goose skin for a pouch upgrade and some other bits of animal to buy a Shadow Rattler.

Ever since I've needed a rat bone I've not come across a single rat. :/

I'm just past that bit. Gonna do the hunting trials and score the lodge weapons, then finish collecting all the flowers and vantage points, then finish the story. I scored the ancient armour which is OP af.

Gonna be sad when this game is done.

"past that bit"? I'm just needing it for getting a Rattler pouch upgrade. I've not bothered with the lodge stuff, I guess I maybe should dive into them if you get weapons. They decent? It's one of my other bummers about the game is that all the quests just reward you with experience and one of the rando-pack of bits (and decent story and gameplay sure). Be nice to have more meaningful rewards from quests.

I was one short for the ancient armour, broke down and googled their locations and turns out I've been feet away from one but didn't look up. So now to climb all the way back up the Faro building. Hooray!

In other news: Faro is a giant jerk face. Someone ran the math and he's 4 years old atm so feel free to punch any 4 year olds called "Ted" in the face.

My main issues on handinling the flowers was in most cases they're usually around some kind of hunting ground. But I find if you get close enough and scan around for the flower then do a mad dash you can be in and out. The Banuk stuff it's mainly an issue of finding that first foot hold, very similar to the Vantages.

Yeah, as noted in my other comment this game kinda sucks on the "decent rewards" thing. Be cooler if you had outfits, weapons, or like...Gold Modifications. I traded in all the vault items to the collectibles guy and I got the usual resource & modifications box that contained also a sock. Which was unique reward but it's also only there to be sold to merchants for 100 shards.

I collected all the mugs and most of the flowers. The rewards are garbage, but I'd occasionally get something I'd need to do an upgrade. Didn't get any vantage points. I got close to a couple but couldn't find exactly which cliff would trigger them. *shrug*

I like the idea that, despite these sophisticated societies with what appears to be a 15th-century manufacturing base, Aloy is running around with gear made out of smelly animal skins and adorned with rodent bones.

Vantage points have a purple floating eye marker over them.

Also storywise, I'd kinda like to know why/how the Carja do seem significantly more advanced than the Nora and Banuk. My only guess would be they maybe started out with more people, which'd free folks up for development. Like it's cool the Carja are in that position, but I currently can't figure out how. Otherwise given what I'm to understand of the timeline, the Nora are pretty spot-on development-wise.

Regarding the lodge, you do get some weapons for completing all the trials, but it's not really anything better than the kinds you can buy.  It'll save you some shards if you get all blazing suns, I guess.

However, doing the lodge hunting sidequests will get you a weapon you can't get anywhere else, and it's a good one too.

The Oresam are even more advanced than the Carja. I think part of the explanation is that the Nora are less advanced due to the Nora's pretty conservative outlook and unwillingness to visit ancient ruins to scrounge for tech.

But there may be explanations. I don't think the game really answers where all the factions come from and why they are the way they are aside from

the Nora and, obliquely, the Oresam, whom I believe originated in the Elysium shelter even though everyone there was supposed to die off.

I wouldn't say the Oseram are any more advanced than the Carja. They're more adept at modifying machines, but their metal work seems quite crude compare to the likes what would be needed to build large elevators and such.

Anywho for the rest:

Okay spoilerville

The Nora are from the cradle facility in the "sacred mountain", or as we know it around here; Cheyenne Mountain, home of "NORAD". You actually also get a data log from there too that in very code-ey form details Aloys conception, birth and..dumping outside the door.

Folks have pointed out that Elysium is likely where Aloy fell in as a child since smarter folks than I have noted the names of the folk in the ruins match those mentioned as in Elysium.

The Cradle for the Carja would be somewhere near the spire given their holy scripture mentions them building Meridian at the tip of the spires shadow.

Oseram are from north of the map area (and I imagine DLC/sequels will take us around there) so I'd figure they've a different cradle facility. As for the Banuk, not a clue but it is possible they're from a super early off-shoot of Nora given they've similar-ish culture around machines, and do have a coupld spots in the north of the sacred lands. What's interesting is they use a lot of triangles in their work, reminiscent of the cauldrons.Whereas many other races actually don't have much in their culture relating to their "birth". Like none of the doors for example are designed to mimic the holo-lock design seen in Zero Dawn facilities.

Anywho I'm still what I'd figure is a few quests off the end and I'm sure Hades will have a bunch of exposition but I'm eager to splurge more into lore-ville as it's certainly one of the more unique we've had in a while.

Eleutheria-9 is the code name for the Nora home base, but, yeah, it's NORAD.

My guess about the Oseram and Elysium is based totally on how "Oseram" sounds like 'Elysium" after a 1000 year game of telephone. The Carja came from somewhere far away from Meridian; their origin story is that they wandered, following the sun and glinthawks until they saw the Spire, similar to the Aztec tales about the founding of Tenochtitlan.

There's lots of lore about the machine apocalypse; not much about the actual origins of the peoples. Did you find the codex entry by the doctor in shadow Carja territory about what lies to the West? It sounds like the rest of the world is pretty fucked up.

I only just realised that one of the random items I picked up is a Death Stranding Easter egg...

Found a "Stranded Figure" in Gaia Prime. Then went back to Grave Hoard and found "Stranded Necklace". Guessing that there might be more in other bunkers...
