danielpholt
This isn't your fathers Resident Evil... ------ In all seriousness, did anyone check out the 'Beginning Hour' 'demo'. Obviously it's got some very heavy 'PT' vibes, I mean you even start by pulling yourself up off of the floor. Like PT, it's also scary as fuck. Surely I'm not the only one who played it? Also 'Beginning Hour' is a little.....liberal. Beginning 20 Minutes might have worked better.
CorgiShinobi
It's intended to be played multiple times, similar to the repeating runs through PT's hallway. Even so, the demo isn't as intuitive or revolutionary as PT. It was interesting, though I can't say it has me excited for a RE7. Even in the multiple runs and the differences you will experience, dedicated players haven't been able to find any additional secrets that would lead to a "true" ending to the demo much like how PT had its big reveal that it was for "Silent Hills." There were Capcom reps at E3 who said otherwise, but it's not uncommon for them to be misinformed or simply create a buzz in having people fixate on something nonexistent. And if there is something? That's pretty ass to have people dedicate days in figuring out an obscure method of playing this demo.
Thursday Next
That's pretty ass to have people dedicate days in figuring out an obscure method of playing this demo. If the solution is something that is fair (doesn't involve something arbitrary like punching in a button sequence on your controller), then I don't think it's ass. If it is completely arbitrary, like some FFXII open the wrong chest and you're fucked for getting the ultimate weapon thing, then yeah, it is ass. CorgiShinobi
I agree, so like when (in the demo) you've figured out the secret lever in the fireplace, the majority of people thought they could shortcut the game, but it turns out it leads to an alternate outcome because you find the missing fuse rather than backdoor key. However, after the third (or fourth) run, there isn't anything else that leads itself to the possibility of a different outcome. Just Mr. Family Man punching you in the face again. People have been trying volume levels, audio settings, hitting nearly every object in the game with the axe item. Hell, people thought the flickering lamp was giving players a message in Morse Code, but that wasn't the case. If anything, players have been play testing the game because some of the "secrets" found are actually just bugs.
MetalCaveman
New trailer, as somenone who's jumpy like a pogo stick, I'm not a fan of the direction it seems to be going in, but a lot of people seem to be happy about the increased horror of it so, good for them I guess. toxicitizen
I have nothing against games like this but that's simply not Resident Evil. I'm intrigued but I'm not getting excited until I see something that actually looks like RE. :/ edit: Thought I might as well update this. I read a huge info dump post on NeoGAF yesterday that alleviated a few of my fears. I haven't been following this one super closely but it sounds like they confirmed a few things. First off, it's not a "hide and seek" game. There will be combat and the player is meant to be able to defend themselves. I guess they just haven't showed it yet? Also, and this is the big one for me, apparently they confirmed that there are no ghosts in the game. Some parts of the demo seemed to strongly suggest otherwise, so that's a relief. The assumption is that the ghost-like woman apparition from the demo is some kind of BOW. My biggest worry was that they were taking not just the gameplay but also the canon in a completely different direction. Introducing ghosts in the seventh game just seemed kinda... stupid. And we're talking about Resident Evil here, the bar isn't exactly high for what qualifies as "not stupid" in the context of the series. I was not on board with ghosts at all. Other details were mentioned like your typical grid-based inventory management and weapon upgrades and what not. But combat and no ghosts are the two major ones that reassure me a bit. Mal
I want to speculate a lot but I think I'll just say that I'm intrigued. Pojodin
I haven't checked out the updated version yet, but I probably will this week or next.

toxicitizen
Was gonna post those clips the other day but they were unlisted at the time, which I guess disables embedding because it wouldn't work. Anyway, here's two more. I'll edit to embed them once they're no longer unlisted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxW4eBdRF_I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-whnhK8IxU Honestly, I'm a little disappointed that the save station isn't a typewriter lol. It's good to finally see something that actually looks like RE, though, even if it's just short clips. Hopefully they'll release a proper gameplay trailer closer to Halloween. Thursday Next
I love it. It evokes enough of the classic, but adds a new perspective. It is like RE4 which shook things up by giving you control of the camera.
TheMightyEthan
I liked RE4 okay, even though I was a little off-put by how much more actiony it was, but then when it became a big escort mission I was done. Haven't played another RE since.
toxicitizen
I love it. It evokes enough of the classic, but adds a new perspective. It is like RE4 which shook things up by giving you control of the camera. Yeah, I'm really hoping for a RE4-level of successful reinvention. I want this to be an amazing game. But my cynicism towards the AAA industry has been at an all-time high in recent years, and I have zero blind faith in modern Capcom. Not after RE6. So, I'm keeping my expectations in check. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst. Although, to be fair, I do like the sound of some of what they're saying. Apparently they took a lot of notes from the original RE and I can kinda see it from that second clip I posted. That gives me at least a little bit of optimism. I liked RE4 okay, even though I was a little off-put by how much more actiony it was, but then when it became a big escort mission I was done. Haven't played another RE since. Were you done solely out of principle or did you actually try to keep playing? Because I'd argue RE4 is one of the few games that did the whole "entire game is an escort mission" thing right. Obviously, it's been topped by more recent releases but the escort mission never got in the way of the game. Besides, Ashley's not even with you for large chunks of the game. I can understand the sentiment in general, but it's RE4 we're talking about so it kinda comes off as a complete knee-jerk reaction in this case. TheMightyEthan
No, I tried to force myself to keep playing, but it was just too damn frustrating trying to babysit her, so I gave up.
toxicitizen
Fair enough. But between this and your comment on REmake in the spooktober thread, it sounds like RE is just not the series for you. Those are the respective peaks of the series two styles of gameplay. I have a feeling the third time probably won't be the charm. Edited October 18, 2016 by FLDemon
MetalCaveman
Unlocking the special costumes was awesome in RE4, Leon with the gangster outfit and the Chicago Typewriter was really cool, but what made it awesome was Ashley in the suit of armour, watching the ganados trying to lift her and failing over and over again was great. \m/ \m/
Thursday Next
Armoured Ashley was a god-send. She is still one of the series' most annoying characters (in competition with Steve (CVX) and Sherry (RE2)).
toxicitizen
Two more clips. Based on the screen at the end, it looks like we're going to get two more batches of two. Hopefully that's leading up to a proper gameplay trailer. Still looking pretty promising. I like how the guy gets back up as if it was nothing. Hopefully not all enemies are like that but a Nemesis-like pursuer would be pretty cool. One thing I'm still apprehensive about is the "look" of the horror, though. This guy looks like he could be from Texas Chainsaw Massacre or something but I like my Resident Evil more... biopunk-ish? I didn't even know that was a thing until recently but it's the perfect way to describe the visual style I've always loved about the series. It started devolving into generic-looking huge biomass monsters starting with RE4 but I'd really love to see stuff like this return in RE7
MetalCaveman
Resident Evil-esque enemies confirmed!
toxicitizen
Well, I meant that style of enemy design specifically. It's something we haven't seen since the old school games. Even Ustanak in RE6 looked more like the LOTR-esque ogre from RE4 rather than like Birkin or the Tyrant. It's good to know for sure there'll be more than just human-like enemies, though.
Mal
I want to see a modern iteration of Nemesis. Have him/her be human that has personality and all that but have them devolve into mutated-Wesker, then Nemesis and then a Birkin. End with the traditional big blob they all tend to grow into as they get more damaged.
toxicitizen
Next two clips. Once again, will edit to embed once they're public. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JB0-MFSjKv0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFh6Ip5v6xM Not much to talk about this time. Second one seems to hint at old-school kinda puzzles, so that's neat. Seems we'll get two more (presumably) next week and those will be the last batch. Hopefully this is all leading up to something, even if it's just a trailer. Although, the obscured year at the end of each clip seems to imply something else. We already have a release date on the game, so I'm not sure what it could be. Only thing that comes to mind would be maybe something related to REmake 2 but I don't see them talking about that in any capacity until next year once REVII is out the door. toxicitizen
Vol. 9 and Vol. 10, you know the drill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLFMK8jmQ3s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3yVqnWKYiI Holy shit, Vol 9 is exactly what I needed to see to get hyped! Looks like this was only building up to a demo update, though. So, that's disappointing. I might be more inclined to care if they released the demo on Steam... Apparently, they confirmed the demo is coming to other platforms. Totally missed that bit of news. Edited November 8, 2016 by FLD
Mal
For Vol 9... spoiler tagging it incase people want to get surprised. That monster is a bit like a Regenerador.
