Resident Evil 7

I used a collectibles guide for that very reason.  I already had to do the Mr. Everywhere statues twice because I somehow missed one before.  They carry over to new saves for the trophy but I don't know if it counts for unlockables so I ended up getting all 20 all over again just to be safe.  Now I'm trying to get all the coins in Madhouse mode (33 vs 18 in the other modes), which means going out of my way to visit dangerous areas I wouldn't visit otherwise.  No way am I going to do that twice because I missed some one-time-only coin.

I'm using a guide too but the one I was using is kinda poorly written. It doesn't have warnings for stuff that's very missable AND used the exact same opening sentence for two coins in a row to describe when to get them. So, while skimming the list to double check I accidentally skipped over one of those two, assuming it was the one I already had. I totally should've been more attentive but up to that point the x-ray glasses were just too damn useful to avoid missing anything and it didn't occur to me that I didn't have them during that particular section. :(

Welp, that's the collectibles done. Man, I can't remember the last time I actually played a game three times in a row. Even just twice is pretty rare for me these days. Pretty sure the last time I did that was when REmake HD came out like, shit two years ago already? I finished my first run with Jill and felt like doing another with Chris right away.

Anyway, I think I'm good for a while. Madhouse can wait. Don't wanna get burned out and I'll probably enjoy it more if I wait until I've forgotten about the game a bit. Now I kinda want to go back to REmake, though. Its achievements feel a lot more doable after doing the RE7 ones.

Now bring on the Chris Redfield DLC!

Quoting from the other thread since the reply kinda belongs here more. Don't you mean

the Hunk DLC???

I love how some people have already convinced themselves that that's who he really is lol. I mean, it's possible and I kinda hope it's true because changing how Chris looks is just going to bug the hell out of me, but I'm not holding my breath. Also, did you know that Ethan is a level 9 Umbrella scientist who faked his own death?! Because apparently a file from one of the other games had a list of Umbrella employee names and one line said

Ethan W. - Deceased

I swear, some fans put more thought into this stuff than Capcom themselves. It would be nice if it wasn't a coincidence but it's probably a coincidence.

To be fair, though,

if it really was Hunk using Chris' name and they had some twist or whatever planned for the DLC, it would be pretty stupid of them to have him as Hunk in the credits.

I feel like if they were going to do that, they would credit him as "Redfield" and not "Chris Redfield." They had to tie the game into the rest of the series somehow and Chris is one of the most iconic characters. His roided up look from RE5 wouldn't fly in this more realistic entry, though.

Yeah, the fact that it's not just "Redfield" is the main reason I'm not buying it.

I don't think his design from RE5-6 would necessarily be an issue, though. I fired up REmake HD earlier and was reminded that they added his modern design as an unlockable.

Obviously the switch to first-person is a bigger factor but if it doesn't look out of place here then I don't see why it would in RE7. They could've easily tweaked it a bit to make it work without having him look like a completely different person. Just don't make his muscles cartoonishly huge like in RE5 and it would look fine.

Ugh, I really wanted to wait but this fucking game, man. It's calling to me. Think I might have to do my madhouse run soon after all lol. All it took was for me to see a single screenshot of a molded in a surprising location and my curiosity was piqued. Goddamnit!

edit: Oh, so madhouse is basically "Fuck you" mode, then. Is it going to toy with my expectations from normal the entire time?

So not only does Jack completely fucks you up if he catches you now, he also doesn't come crashing through the wall Kool-Aid man style anymore. It's crazy how much something NOT happening can fuck with you. When he didn't come out of that wall, I started freaking out. That's when I realized all bets were off. Also, he pretty much fucks you up instantly if he catches you, uh? Sounds like this might be the most interesting difficulty.

Oh and the car keys are in a fucking lock box now? Lmao, fuck you!

Ohhh yeah.  It changes up a lot of things pretty much to ensure you can't blaze through it just by being used to the normal mode.

Well, the tension madhouse had built back up pretty much disappeared instantly once it was pointed out to me that

you can abuse the circular saw to dispatch pretty much anyone trivially, including Jack. Poor guy went back to being little more than a mild annoyance. Went from being very low on ammo to essentially not needing any lol.

edit: aaaand you can add greenhouse Marguerite to the list of enemies that can be cheesed with the circular saw. It's a bit riskier but it's definitely doable. After a couple of failed normal attempts I said fuck it and tried and the fight was over in seconds lol.

One thing I do absolutely love about madhouse is the addition of cassette tapes, though. There really should've been a hard mode that's basically identical to normal but with tapes and no checkpoints. That would've been perfect and I probably would've enjoyed my first playthrough even more on a mode like that.

Just two more trophies in the DLC to go and I'll be back at 100%!  My obsessive compulsive disorder compels me!

Thanks to the Nightmare mode, I've pretty much figured out how to fend off Jack using nothing but a knife, which will kinda ruin the tension of subsequent playthroughs, I suppose, but at the same time it also feels good to really stick it to that son of a bitch.

That moment when you forget to press Share to save your hilariously glitchy boss fight with Marguerite. Had her stuck in an infinite walk cycle in that short entryway upstairs.

I actually had restarted because it didn't seem like she was taking damage. I mean, I wasn't sure it was her boss fight and didn't want to have wasted 400 Burner Fuel. Jack's was easy to tell, her's not so much.

I guess this is the catch-all RE thread?

Capcom had their big showcase stream earlier. New trailer and first gameplay footage.

Reeeeaaally digging the RE4 vibes the game is giving off. Creepy Castle, a merchant, inventory tetris. If they also have a lengthier campaign this time (not expecting it to match RE4's ~16 hours but a solid 12+ hours would be nice), then sign me the fuck up. RE7 was way too short. More enemy variety is the other obvious area where they need to improve over RE7 but honestly, I think that gameplay trailer alone might have showed more enemy types than all of RE7 lol.

Played the PS5 demo, which is called visual demo, which makes sense, because it's mostly just about how the game will look, rather than an actual demo for Village, the first person perspective is something I'm not used to for these games, and the way your character sometimes interacts with stuff as soon as you get close to it scared the hell out of me.

Still, after watching the gameplay trailer, it looks pretty cool, looking forward to it, specially if it ends up being the RE4 of this new generation of RE games. :P
