Now all I have to do is finish trial mode and fill out the bestiary and the platinum will be mine. Oh ffs, is that the FFXII boss that has like a billion hp? I was really hoping there wouldn't be an achievement related to it. I don't know if I can make myself go through that shit again...
Mister Jack
He has a little over 50,000,000 HP. The good news is that if you set up your gambits properly, you don't have to constantly babysit your party. He is vulnerable to debuffs in the zodiac versions, so if you debilitate his attack and magic attack you should have a much easier time. After the first thirty minutes, I only felt the need to check in on them every five minutes or so to make sure my party leader wasn't dead or that my heavy hitters weren't under status effects. I did go out of my way to get the best weapons, armor, and accessories I could beforehand, but I was prepared enough to make the actual fight pretty manageable. toxicitizen
It's been a while but I remember on PS2 I basically always had someone to heal or revive and it took me WAY longer than 3 hours. Thankfully its health didn't reset if you left, so I was able to leave and save mid-fight, spreading it out over a few days. I know I grinded every party member to level 99 and ended up with 2 Zodiac Spears by the end of everything but I can't remember whether I did the Yiazmat fight before or after. I want to say after but it's been way too long to be sure. This and dodging 100 lightning bolts in a row in FFX are the two things I'm seriously not looking forward to doing again... Mister Jack
I did the whole fight in one go. No multiple trips necessary. It's definitely more reasonable than it used to be. Thanks to his newly added debuffs vulnerability I didn't need to heal nearly as often. He still has a 5% instakill chance with his attacks, but that's not really that much. Having a shell gambit up also means his instant death spell only works 50% of the time instead of 100%. I also made sure to buy 99 Chronos Tears to mitigate his tendency to inflict stop and set those to a gambit. My white mage was also equipped with a ribbon. Thursday Next
Dodging lightning bolts was the absolute worst.
deanb
Man didn't bother with Yiazmat back then, not sure I'll do it now but does sound like it's a tad more bearable (and hey being able to rest the system and the speeding up stuff should help things along). Back of my mind I'm aware Zodiac Spears are kind of a thing but I'm hoping that it's not that "don't open these 4 specific unmarked chests" thing that was in the PS2 version, and not really caring if that is the case. Mister Jack
They got rid of the chest opening shit. There's two ways to get a Zodiac Spear now. Spoiler You can get a Zodiac Spear as a Hunt Club reward from the weapons vendor, but getting it this way means locking yourself out of the armor and item vendors' special prizes. You have to choose which one you want more or spread the rewards across all three and get less from each one. You can also get a Zodiac Spear from a specific chest in the Henne Mines. The chest only has a 1% spawn rate each time you go in the room, but if it does spawn it will always have a Zodiac Spear in it. I got mine this way. Took me a couple hours of grinding the RNG. Zodiac Spear is no longer the strongest weapon in the game, although the new weapons are hidden so well that they're practically easter eggs. Thursday Next
I remember the mine one being there but originally, it was a 1% spawn rate for the chest and a 10% chance that the spear was even in there.
Mister Jack
Got the platinum! The last fight in trial mode was ridiculous, but I did it.
toxicitizen
Holy shit, nightmare difficulty is something else. I've been meaning to do a nightmare run of the series for a while and the delay of Ys VIII on PC left me hungry for more Ys, so I figured I'd finally give it a shot. I also needed to complete the boss rush mode, which seemed impossible at first. But nightmare was a hell of a good training for it. Ended up clearing it super quickly after finishing the game. I guess Ys II is up next!

Mal
The last boss is an absolute crap shoot no matter the difficulty.
toxicitizen
Yeah, at first it felt like nightmare didn't make much of a difference because it's such a hectic fight. But time attack is on normal and when I went back to it it was night and day. He hits you for less and you hit him for more and it makes a huge difference. I almost got him on my first try after beating him on nightmare.
toxicitizen
The bosses in this one aren't as difficult and the level cap isn't stupidly low, so it was much easier. The only boss that really gave me trouble was the last one and that was only because I wasn't max level, forgot to go buy an elixir and saved past the point of no return like the fucking idiot I am. I didn't touch time attack until after beating the main game on nightmare this time and I literally got it on my first try. Going back to normal difficulty, none of the bosses posed any challenge whatsoever lol. Feels good to have finally completed these two. I'd been meaning to do it for a long time now but I was kinda dreading playing on nightmare. Now I'm tempted to keep going and do Felghana or Origin next. It's hard to stop when you start a replay of this series but I don't wanna risk getting burned out. You know, just in case NISA manage to quit fucking around and fix the PC version of VIII in a timely manner...
Mister Jack
Got the platinum for Fractured But Whole. It actually isn't all that hard, and with one exception there are no missable trophies in this game, unlike in Stick of Truth. The one missable trophy, The Token Experience, requires you to play as a black kid for the whole game on hard mode. This ended up being an interesting experience. I don't know how many of you heard about the minor controversy of the difficulty slider joke in the character creator. Here it is you haven't seen it. Before the game came out, people were concerned that this meant you were forced to play a black kid if you wanted to play the game on hard mode. This isn't true; it's just a gag and the actual difficulty modifier is in a separate menu. If anything, when I tried it the game was easier. I'll explain. On my first playthrough I played with a hispanic skin tone like I usually do with create-a-character games. After beating it, I went back to do the trophy and made a black girl just to see how much was different. The answer? Well, you start off with less money if you're black. However, there is a black character who will give you a piece of equipment that is pretty overpowered for most of the game, but he'll only give it to you if you're black. There is another such item you can get from a girl, but only if you're also a girl. So as a black girl I had two overpowered items that carried at least half of my second playthrough. Spoiler The superboss of the game also refuses to fight you if you're black because he is also black. Fortunately, you can change your race at any time by talking to PC principal if you want to fight said boss.
toxicitizen
Well, they might not have announced Valkyria Chronicles 4 for PC but at least the announcement got me to finally go back to the original and finish it off. Hopefully this isn't the last time I play a Valkyria game on PC. 1
TCP
Time to get a Switch.
toxicitizen
Meh, I want to get a Switch eventually but I don't think I'd ever play anything other than exclusives on it. VC4 will probably come to PC at some point, I'd rather hold off for a port than buy a console just to play it early. Anyway, just wrapped up one more game. They finally patched the 2D assets to be full resolution, so I used that as an excuse to jump back in and finish the post-game stuff. Now if only they'd do better discounts during sales. I'd like to get Atelier Firis before the new one comes out but it was still like 50 bucks in the last Steam sale, which seems a little steep to me. toxicitizen
I AM ONE WITH THE SNAKE! Doing all the levels without dying actually wasn't as bad as I feared. If you're not going for all the collectibles, the last world really isn't as much of a pain in the ass. Oh yeah, and I guess I hit a bit of a milestone four games ago. TheMightyEthan
Holy shit, I liked Snake Pass, but I would rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon than try to 100% it.
toxicitizen
Lol. I'm just glad there were no achievements for the time trials. If there had been, I probably would've given up. Moving quickly is the one thing I never managed to get good at. Edited March 29, 2018 by FLD
Mister Jack
Finally beat all those damn valkyries in God of War. After doing that, it's probably all downhill for the rest of the trophies. They were a hell of a challenge but damned if it didn't feel good to finally kick their asses after they'd been doing it to me for so long.

Geez, what's so time consuming about it? I never bothered with them on PC because Blizzard's achievement system is weird and there's just too much shit going on with time-limited stuff or whatever.
