This was actually a pretty easy plat. A single playthrough. I did use a guide for the collectibles, but the only reason I did that was because there's no in-game way to track which ones you've gotten, so going back to clean them up after you've gotten a few would be a PITA, cause you wouldn't know which ones you're missing.

I always use guides for collectibles. I also used guides heaps for Demon's Souls. I fact, I just use guides for trophies full stop. Normally I'll check for "missable" trophies, play through once blind, then if I want the plat, get a guide to hoover up whatever I missed.

Yeah, I usually check a trophy guide before I start to see if there's anything that can't be gotten easily after finishing the game once (and by "easily" I mean without having to replay huge sections of the game), and if there's not then I do like you and play through once blind, then go back and do cleanup if I feel like it. If there is something that can't be gotten easily after finishing it (like the collectibles in The Order), then I look at the guide for that thing during my first playthrough, but I try to look the bare minimum amount necessary to get the thing, without looking at other stuff.

I still remember when trophies were implemented. I could have received the platinum for Vanquished, but it turned out there was a bug. If you decided to hope around the different chapters while trying to complete a difficulty-based trophy, it wouldn't count because you were selecting different parts of the story. So I did the hardest difficulty, beat the final boss, and while waiting for the platinum, it never popped up. I went online and learned this and I couldn't will myself to go through the toughest difficulty again...

Generally speaking I hate "complete it on very hard mode" trophies because normally I only like to play through a game the once and those modes only open up after completion, and normally I don't find more difficulty = more fun. The only recent exception was with FF7R, but I didn't mind that as it was an NG+ playthrough, so I was OP for much of it anyway. I do find FromSoft's "see all the endings" trophies a bit annoying, but at least you can normally save-scum it.

I don't usually like difficulty-based trophies either, and if a game has one I usually won't even attempt the platinum. The only real exceptions to that are games where the "complete the game" trophy just requires you to do it on something above the lowest difficulty, and the very rare game where I want to play the hardest difficulty anyway.

Ha, good to hear I'm not the only one that does this. I always check for missables ahead of time and usually feel like an idiot for doing it. Like, I shouldn't worry about it and just enjoy the damn game lol.

Trophy hunting is part of the fun. I never bought into the naysayer argument that hunting for trophies has no point. Bitch, it's a video game. It didn't have a point to begin with. It's all for fun. If going to a little extra effort to get 100% makes the game more engaging then why not do it?

Yeah, I'm very goal-oriented in games, so if I don't have some kind of concrete mid-term goal I lose interest. Usually that comes at the end of the story, but well-implemented trophies can do the same thing. They're not enough to motivate me to play a game I'm not enjoying, but they can provide that little bit of impetus I need to keep playing a game I love but that I've run out of story content for.

Well I should now have the platinum for Hitman 3, except one of the trophies is bugged...

There's a "fix" that involves deleting your IOI profile, which resets all progress, including unlocked gadgets, suits, starting locations, etc, and then doing the criteria for the trohpy again. I'm actually considering it, since it's the last thing left to do in Hitman 3, but I could use those unlocks in Hitman 1 & 2 if I don't...

So you'd have to complete the whole game again??? That's not a "fix" that's repro steps for a <100% bug!

I wouldn't have to do the whole game again, just the specific trophy steps. Hitman doesn't gate levels by previous progress, so I can just jump straight to that level and do the things.

In fact, that's exactly what I did last night.

Honestly, even now I feel it calling me back to redo that stuff, just cause it's so much fun... My precious...

Yeah, I get you. Hitman 2 repeated all the achievements for the first game and I didn't do them at launch because I had just finished completing the first game but I do intend to redo everything. Which is kinda why I didn't care about the EGS deal because it gives me an extra year to get around to it lol. And I vaguely recall reading that Hitman 3 is going to import your data, including achievements, but even if it doesn't I wouldn't be opposed to redoing it all a third time, tbh. These games are just so fucking good. I've been a Hitman fan since the PS2 days but this is the best the series has ever been.
