Ghost Recon Wildlands

I didn't play the closed beta so I don't know, so far, biggest issue I've had was with the first mission, where the dude wouldn't follow me, he'd just stay inside his cell not moving, had to kill him and restart the mission and then it worked. :P

Starting to get the hang of helicopter flying, though aiming the mounted weapons is still out of reach. :P

Also, the subtitles are funny, the dudes will say something like "alright motherfuckers! let's show them we have more balls than them, fuck them all!" but the subtitles say "there are more of us than them, show them who's in charge, attack!". :P

I finished every mission, collectible and activity in the beta, and it was really fun. :P The second area kicked my ass until I got the anti-armour rifle and the tar21, then i got a bit easier. :P I can see it getting a bit boring if you're one to stick to a single play style, but if you play around with everything the game has, it does offer quite a bit of variety, like, I only used the parachute to drop on hills close to mission areas, scout, and then move in, but you could just drop in the middle of a base and go crazy if that's your deal. :P Vehicles also offer a lot of choices, though I never figured out how to properly use gunships, getting an APC and using it to complete a couple of missions, destroy convoys and other stuff was awesome. :P

The AI isn't as bad as some people would say, though I wish it had better consistency, sometimes they detect you from 200 meters away when you miss a shot, and then everyone in the world knows where you are, others, they fail to notice that I just landed a chopper right next to them. :P

The radio can be super annoying, specially since there's only one station, though I did find it funny that there's a song that mentions the ghosts and their fight against the cartel. :P Speaking of songs, I'm surprised they didn't get Cartel de Santa in there, their stuff is basically made for this kind of setting but I don't know if it's all original music made for the game or if there are real songs included too. :P

I'm not particularly interested in Wildlands, it's just not my kind of game. But I'm really digging how this kind of licensed DLC is becoming increasingly common. Stuff like having DLC characters that allow for an Alien vs Predator (or Freddy vs Jason, if they weren't available in different games) match in Mortal Kombat is just pure dumb fun. But I was looking at Dead by Daylight DLC yesterday and I had heard about the recent Freddy Kruger pack but turns out there's also a Michael Myers one and a Leatherface one, which is just fucking awesome to have for that game. It kinda makes me wish there wasn't a similar Friday the 13th game, just so Jason could be in there with the others.

Played it yesterday, it was fucking awesome! \m/ \m/ :P  It's really short, but I still loved it, the bits where the music starts to play, hearing the Predator running around, growling and all that stuff was really cool. Finding its blood on some leaves and Nomad going all "If it bleeds, we can kill it" had me jumping with joy. \m/ \m/ :P

Spoiler

Finding the crashed ship was really cool. \m/ \m/

Then at the end, the part when you kill it, and it activates its wrist bomb was awesome, getting its mask as a reward was really cool, though the full helmet is part of the cosmetic DLC which isn't free. Still, the mask is a cool detail, and the way it changes how thermal vision looks/sounds, adding the effects from the movie was the best, I could not stop smiling after that. :P \m/ \m/

If they ever make a full Predator game, this is how it should be (just longer :P ), as it really captured the feel and look of the movies in a way that none of the other games involving the Predator have been able to. \m/ \m/

More details on the Splinter Cell collaboration, looks like it'll be like the Predator stuff, a short mission, with a themed reward, with some extra DLC and PVP stuff. :P

Game will be free to play for a couple of days, so if you're curious, this is the best time to try it, the Predator mission returns for this event too. :P

Oh, nice. Definitely gonna give it a shot then. I mostly ignored it until now due to the coop focus but this Splinter Cell thing has me a little curious. If the game is enjoyable enough solo then I might grab it down the line.

Wildlands is much more forgiving than others though, mostly by allowing you to just kill everyone from a distance before approaching a base/outpost/whatever, this time though, there's a no-kill condition. In general, it's also not as stealth focuses as previous entries, allowing for a guns-blazing approach if you so desire. :P  The Tier One stuff doesn't help either, as that makes it easier to be detected, I'll probably turn it off on my next attempt. :P

The mission should be available right at the start, you'll be contacted and told where/when to go and that should be it, though I would recommend picking up a couple of weapons before heading in. :P

Free week-end is live, so I gave it a try earlier tonight. Played for about an hour and had to uninstall it lol. What I played was awesome but when I saw what kind of game it is, I knew I should probably quit before really getting into it.

I decided to stop buying games (except for the occasional bundle) and focus on my backlog for a while, and I already broke my rule by impulse buying Chrono Trigger a few days ago. So, the last thing I need is to tempt myself to get this one right now. It's definitely going high on my wishlist, though. :P

Well, tried again, and again, and again and... This mission has some serious issues, specially the lack of checkpoints. I've now managed to find a path that lets me sneak in undetected, so that part is easy, the problem is the other stuff, you have to fight Unidad forces, an endless stream of Unidad forces, which gets pretty annoying, also, like I mentioned, there's no checkpoints so if you die/fail at any point, you have to start from scratch, and you can actually get detected mid-cutscene so... That's a thing. :P Sam also has an extremely minor role in here, and he doesn't do much for most of it, though it's still pretty cool to see him again, with Ironside voicing him no less. :P Will tweak my loadout and try again later, this time I know to bring in heavy weapons instead of stealthy ones. :P

Finally completed this mission, it sure was something. :P Ended up just running away while blowing up any helicopters that tried to chase me. :P Mission was kinda disappointing in its execution, though the story and the way it sets up a possible new entry in the Splinter Cell series is pretty cool. :P

The nod to MGS was pretty cool, and Sam's reaction when he realises he's the only one left is heartbreaking. :( After completing the mission you get Sam's sonar goggles which change the night vision effect, looks cool, but it's not as drastic a change as with the Predator mask. :P

Would be awesome to see the Ghosts in Splinter Cell. :P

For anyone that's played Watch Dogs, Siege, or any other recent Ubisoft game:

Spoiler

Has Skell Tech been mentioned there? All 3 special operations missions have mentioned them in some way or another:

  • The computer in the Splinter Cell mission was Skell Tech, also Sam mentions they were working on something that would leave people like him out of a job.
  • Twitch (R6 Siege) mentions her drone is made with Skell Tech parts, and that it is pretty much impossible to detect.
  • The optic camo that Kozak wears is made by Skell Tech. A
  • Also they seem to be selling their drones/stuff to pretty much everyone, Santa Blanca, Bodark, Russian ultranationalists, the Ghosts, etc. :P

There's this too:

https://skelltech.com/

If you use username: asantos and password: 10068 you get an ad for their civilian drone tech.

I wonder if this is some setup for a future GR game or if it's teasing something else, maybe Skell Tech has appeared in other games, maybe this is the hint for the next Splinter Cell game?! :P
