toxicitizen
It's a couple days old but here's some gameplay footage for Cold Steel 3. I only skimmed it for fear of spoilers but it's looking pretty damn good! Hopefully XSEED don't waste time in announcing a western release (along with a simultaneous release on PC, obviously). Mal
I'm missing the old style where you can kind of turn on a dime. The movement in CS is just so janky. Also this is a HUGE house. Hell, a lot of interiors seems way larger than what I expect. But yeah, back to trying to start this Cold Steel playing engine going because... toxicitizen
You've got plenty of time. They've recently said not to expect it until early 2018, which makes sense if Durante's only now getting the source code. After playing at 1080p60, there is no way I can go back to playing on Vita. But man, I want to play CS2 so bad right now.
toxicitizen
Can't say I'm surprised, summer's pretty much over and there hasn't been any news in a while.
Mal
With CSIII, the entire Trails series is only 60% done. We're talking about like 5-6 more games. I'll be in my mid to late 30's once this is all said and done. I'm cool with it.
toxicitizen
Cold Steel III is in a weird position where it's a sequel but the gap between CSII and CSIII was about as long as it usually is between subseries. I really wonder if we're looking at another ~3 years until the next arc starts. They've probably done a lot of the engine/tech groundwork with CSIII given how much of a jump in quality it is but I assume they won't be able to recycle assets as much as they normally would with a direct sequel set in the same country. We're looking at another 2 arcs, at the very least. I could see the series going for another decade, which would put me in my early 40s by the time it's over. Seriously, imagine playing this series for one of your first games and see it come to completion. Nothing else will ever compare. It's borderline child abuse! Mal
I think the cat is out of the bag regarding CSIII ending. Spoiler There's most likely will be a CSIV/SenIV.
toxicitizen
That was a hell of a risky click lol. I had heard the opposite last week but I took a quick peek at the Kiseki community thread on GAF just now and it sounds like it's pretty much confirmed. After the credits roll you get a series of lines which end with: To Be Continued: Sen No Kiseki the last story. Man, the wait for CS2 PC and CS3 is going to be pure fucking torture. I mean, it already kinda is...
Mal
It is. I'm burning through CS1 due to Turbo Mode. I probably saved a couple hours running around and doing battles. With that, CSII cannot come fast enough. Same with CS3. Like, what is Rean's deal. How did he become such a dashing guy by CS3? It's like he found his sword. Mal
I'm hearing that CS3 was just too big to fit in one game so they went with CS4 which should be out next year. Neat. And for some extra development history, CS3 and CS4 kind of mirrors CS1 and CS2. CS2 that happened is a thing due to the original CS1 being way too long. Hence the cliffhanger ending in CS1. Whatever it is. Oh god. Maybe I should take it easy on CS1 if there is a sudden cliffhanger ending.

That seems to be a recurring issue Falcom run into with this series. Almost makes you wonder if their problem maybe lies in the planning phase. As for the cliffhanger, all I'll say is I didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as Trails in the Sky FC.

toxicitizen
2017 is already the Year of Falcom, but holy fuck if we get a Crossbell announcement on top of everything else! Also, Zwei store page is live. Knowing XSEED, that probably means we can expect a release within a month or so. toxicitizen
NISA apologizes for their awful Ys VIII localization. This actually seems like a huge deal. They're having a new editor and translator essentially go over the entire script to fix it and will be rerecording voicework as necessary. The new localization will be a free update on PS4 and Vita and they say it will be included at launch on Steam. They're saying this should be out at the end of November, so the clear implication here is that the PC port isn't coming for at least another month and a half lmao. Such a massive localization patch seems like an unprecedented move. I can't help but feel like they caught some massive flak from Falcom over this. Apparently there was even Japanese media coverage of their shitty localization, so the negative reactions definitely reached Falcom. I want to say good on them for fixing this (since I never expected them to actually do it), but my guess is they were probably forced into it. Hopefully this means they'll never get their hands on a Falcom game again. On the bright side, the PC version delay kinda feels like a bit of a blessing in disguise now... Mal
Yeah, there are some Japanese coverage because us fans made a big enough stink to get noticed. From what I hear, Falcom president used to run a Falcom fansite so he easily is keenly aware of the news regarding Falcom. So there is a chance that this call for a localization patch came from the very top of Falcom. I'm very glad to see that Falcom cares about their localization quality because some of the shit that NISA has pulled for years is just shit. It's especially egregious since with Ys VIII, Falcom is trying out to flesh out a better story that's kind of in line to that of the Trails games. A bad localization can kill something of this scale. Now to wait and see how the PC port turns outs. They're spending extra time on it so it better be good.
toxicitizen
Yeah, for the new localization we'll see. I'm a little skeptical they can actually turn it into XSEED-level quality in such a short time frame. But the port will be almost 3 months late by the end of November. That should be plenty of time to fix it, it better be fucking solid. edit: PC version update. Not coming until mid-December and NISA have reached out to Durante lol. I kinda figured they had because I'm friends with him on Steam and he was mysteriously playing the game the day right after they announced the delay lol. I imagine that between CS1 patches and the CS2 port his plate is pretty full right now, so he's likely only involved in a consulting capacity. toxicitizen
Gonna assume that's an early 2018 for the PC version. Hopefully Ys VIII doesn't slip to 2018 because the last thing I need is for these two and Cold Steel 2 to all come out at the same time. Mal
Ys VIII is probably going to be out mid-December and Durante is helping. Only way I can react. Edited October 13, 2017 by Malloween

Mal
Ugh. I knew I should had looked up Trails wiki. Got a certain member spoiled to me. I guess I can go in wondering what is their story and why they are in such a high position. Edit: It's really no worst than say Sen 1 and 2 spoiling the Crossbell games. In other worlds, Chapter 3 and 4 is lit. Edited October 16, 2017 by Malloween
Mal
My reaction for the last few chapters and pretty soon after this. I had to stop playing because I lost my shit. I really hope CSII is soon into 2018 because this is hyped as hell.
toxicitizen
Zwei launching October 31. 10% launch discount... but they're charging 29.99$ for it. I mean, I'm usually happy to throw money at XSEED day one but I'm not paying 30 bucks for this game. I want to try it because it's Falcom but I'm just not feeling what I've seen of the gameplay. At this point I'm starting to get the impression that they know they have a certain minimum of guaranteed sales from super fans so they're just charging them as much as they think they can get away with. Can't say I blame them given how abysmal their sales usually are but this feels like a 20 bucks game to me, no more than that.
