Mal
How big is Calvard...? So yeah, I can see why Kiseki is at 60%. Here's to another 15 years!

Mal
FYI, info for the next arc is dropping now so mute it as best you can if you want to avoid spoilers... Though people dying is probably not going to be a thing...
toxicitizen
Between everything that's gone down and the uncertainty of PC releases going forward, I can't say I'm really concerned about spoilers right now. Kinda feels like I won't be playing CSIII-IV for a good long while (if ever). Also, did they actually say it's the next arc? I've seen people theorizing that it's going to be more of an expansion to CS kinda deal. And the Gematsu article on it had this bit: Quote This new title is meant as a followup or spin-off-style game. Since the Crossbell characters have appeared, many people might think, “What about that person?” So it is a game that will show things like, “What did that person do at that time? What were they doing after?” Plus, one of the screenshots shows a very familiar location. Edited June 30, 2019 by FLD
Mal
They have two titles in the works. One is indeed Cold Steel related and will probably be like 3rd, either as a standalone or as DLC. This is what was shown off in the screenshots. The next arc is in the works but won't be ready for a good 2-3 years. It's basically impossible that it isn't Calvard related. I want to see my man, Colonel Richards. 13 minutes ago, FLD said: Kinda feels like I won't be playing CSIII-IV for a good long while (if ever). I won't have anyone to shoot the shits with in here... I'm still hoping they'll announce a port before the console launch but I'm not holding my breath.
toxicitizen
Lol for some reason, at some point I forgot that Ys VIII was originally a Vita game. I thought that what we've seen of Monstrum Nox looked super underwhelming but that's because I was mistakenly expecting a graphical bump in Lacrimosa of Dana. But in reality it looks only slightly better than Celceta. Also, in my first two hours of play I've already spotted two blatant typos. toxicitizen
Easy Allies interviewed Kondo. I have to admit, getting him talking to western press isn't something XSEED ever managed to pull off, as far as I'm aware... Still watching but at the 4:15 mark he basically confirms that the Crossbell games are in the early stages of being ported to modern platforms. It could be a mistranslation but the answer sounds uncharacteristically definitive for Kondo. Remasters/rereleases would pretty much be the biggest chance for localization we've had yet. It would be a fucking NISA translation of course, but whatever, I'll take what I can get at this point. On that note, the patched translation for Ys VIII actually seems serviceable so far. I'm admittedly not the most qualified person to really appraise it but the only things that have really stood out to me were typos. There hasn't been anything as weird or stilted as the screenshots I've seen from the initial release. If they can get Cold Steel III-IV to at least this level (ideally above it) AND maintain consistency with the previous games, then my only real concern would be port quality. I've been lucky with Ys VIII in that I've only experienced one crash (so far, in ~16h of play) although I hear for some people it remains essentially unplayable. There was one weird bug where a cutscene before a boss fight played twice, for some reason. The framerate is all over the fucking place in some areas but between this and Durante having to rewrite the entire rendering pipeline to get Cold Steel I and II to run like you'd expect them to, I'm starting to think at least part of the blame here is on Falcom having shitty programming/optimization practices. We can only hope NISA have the common sense to hire Durante's company...

Have they even ever tried*? Hell, even some of the bigger Falcom fansites probably haven't tried... and we're talking about Kondo who, if I recall correctly, ran a Japanese Falcom fansite long before he got hired into Falcom and worked his way to the top. I would think Kondo would give it a shot if genuinely asked. *Or were they preoccupied with Titty Ninjas?
toxicitizen
No idea but they certainly seemed to have less marketing budget/capabilities than NISA. I still remember the launch trailer for the Steam release of TiTS FC. It was pretty rough. IIRC, it was edited by Hatsuu and she was basically having to learn how to edit a trailer on the job. You bring up an interesting point about Kondo running a fansite but I imagine he's super busy these days. Like, NISA had him for like a week and the reddit AMA they did was such a disaster due to time that they had to come back hours later to answer more questions. Kondo answered like 3 questions during the actual AMA and it was still only like 20 questions or so when all was said and done lol.
toxicitizen
Goddamn, those Trails of Ys jokes about Lacrimosa of Dana weren't an exaggeration. I just hit 30 hours of playtime (which is longer than both Seven and Celceta) and it honestly feels like I'm only just getting into the real meat of the story. And it's not like it was light on story before, either. Going by my % of map completion and assuming the same amount of side-missions going forward, I can easily see this lasting another 20 hours or so. This is easily the most ambitious Ys game yet. I can't help but wonder if the faster turnaround means Monstrum Nox is scaling things back or just going for a different formula altogether. I kinda hope it's the latter because I'm loving the hell out of Dana but they basically perfected the Celceta formula at this point. I think it might be time to try something new. Mal
This is fine. Take all the time they need to polish it... But this is NISA we are talking about so we'll see (see how damaged I am!?).

Mal
So a preview build was shown. Just typos but yeah. I mean sure they have two months but we kind of said the same thing for Ys so... time to wait and see. HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE
toxicitizen
Considering the amount of typos still present in Ys VIII even after the redone loc, I wouldn't be surprised if every single one of those was still there in the final version... edit: Eh, I've seen someone claim that a NISA rep on some discord server has said the screenshots are from an older build and the typos have already been fixed. Doesn't mean there won't be more or that they got all of them but it's something, I suppose. Edited August 7, 2019 by FLD

toxicitizen
Well, that's a convenient way to see if you're one of the lucky ones where your PC wins the "can it run" lottery without having to fuck around with a refund. But yeah to be fair, say what you will about the quality of their work but their marketing in general has been fairly good.
Mal
I mean, marketing is what NISA excels at. They can probably successfully market shit but you still get a turd.
toxicitizen
Well, I mean, if it results in the games selling more than 15 copies then that's definitely something...

toxicitizen
There isn't an up to date version of the patch that's available, right? It's only the one that leaked a while back? I tried looking into downloading it a few weeks ago and couldn't find any link on their website.
Mal
There's isn't. The one I posted is it and it will need to be QA'd. In the coming weeks when Geofront do their testing (invite only) we might see a leak of what they got but I doubt it. Anyhow, release is very likely this year. toxicitizen
So, Cold Steel III embargo appears to have lifted and some reviews have started popping up. Early word seems to be that the script translation is only a tiny bit worse than XSEED (whatever that means) but the dub is as excellent as ever. Personally I'm gonna wait until the game is in the hands of fans before fully trusting any consensus but this does seem to bode well. I was mostly okay with the redone Ys VIII loc so if it truly is that good then I very likely won't see much of a difference. But yeah, if they actually learned from their mistake on Ys, then good on them. Now just announce that PH3 is working on a PC port! And maybe ask them to fix Ys VIII while they're at it. That port is still kinda rough...
