Falcom thread (Trails, Ys, Xanadu, etc.)

Apparently if you download the optional DLC before the main game, you'll crash Ys VIII on the Switch. Hard to know how true is that. Anyhow...

Geofront's fan translation (edit) of Zero is at 70%. The team might be able to make quick progress now with school/classes out. If they don't push it hard say before the holidays then it might not be out this year (probably wouldn't anyways). Hopefully by summer of next year?

Guren's fan translation (essentially a bit above machine translation) of Ao/Azure is MIA. "It'll be ready when it's ready" sort of deal when everything was pointing that it was kind of done back in like February. Without this, you'd be hard pressed to play Cold Steel 3 if it comes out before this...

Can't find any announcement tweets just yet but the store page for Memories of Celceta is live with a release date of July 25th.

That leaves me with just a week to play it before Yakuza 0 comes out. :(

edit: There it is

I guess that Touhou game is the one they released on console a while back? I can't keep track of that series, so many games and spin-offs...

Main line games are all bullet hell games made by ZUN. If I recall there are some other games made with the backing of ZUN too. These are the official canon.

Then you have everything else. They're all technically fan games. To be honest from a copyright perspective, it is absolutely bizarre that this sort of thing can happen. It's as if we get random Final Fantasy (or any other IP) games made by anybody on Steam.

One last thing: http://worldofys.com/

Updated with Celceta. One game is missing for obvious reasons. :bun-psycho:

Yeah, I'm not really into bullet hell so I never payed too close attention to the series in general.

Also, launcher options for Celceta:

- Window Mode (windowed, fullscreen, borderless)
- Framerate (30, 60, 120, unlimited)
- VSync (on, off)

Image Quality
- Antialiasing (off, MSAAx2, MSAAx4, MSAAx8, SSAAx4)

For real, what the fuck's been up with NISA this past year? Has anything major happened, like a change in management or a talent departure or something? I know people like to point out to some fuck ups they made in the PS2 gen but almost everything they've done since the initial Ys VIII launch back in September 2017 has been completely insane. They're almost literally fucking everything up in one way or another. I feel like they weren't that bad before. I mean, I've been a Disgaea fan for like a decade now and I also really love Danganronpa and I never really had a negative opinion of them until this last year.

Lol which one was that? I heard about them introducing game-breaking bugs in some PS2 games (Ar Tonelico?) but the only PS3 fuck up I'm aware of was randomly renaming a character in one of the Atelier game to "Esty Dee" because they thought that it was hilarious (it wasn't) and that she wouldn't be important in future games (she was).

Since this has pretty much become the de facto "shit NISA does" thread...

So, a full 6 months delay (assuming this beta is roughly 2 weeks before launch as usual, because that's worked out so well for them in the past). I seriously hope we eventually find out what the hell happened here because people that managed to try the initial beta before it was pulled said that it actually ran pretty well. I mean, this kind of delay can't be due to the beta leak thing. If it had been, it would've made more sense to pull the beta and release the game ASAP. I have to imagine they found some kind of really severe issue or something.

Ao/Azure TL patch from Guren is out in the wild now. It's the one from February and before a final editing pass. I think there was an earlier one that was just machine translation. Soon enough we'll be ready for CS3 and CS4... Whenever and whoever. I just want all this uncertainty over by Christmas. By that point whoever should have enough time to works out a deal with Falcom.

Might be longer than that if Falcom are being their usual idiotic selves and waiting until the Japanese release before licensing them. Cold Steel 1 and 2 were done as a package deal so they might want to do the same with 3 and 4. Which means we might not hear anything until late 2019, unless whoever ends up with them decides to announce them super early.

  • 1 month later...

More characters revealed who are coming back from Sky. I really do think Sen4 is when shit hits the fan.

Spoiler

I swear Estelle mom has to be Adios Aka The Grandmaster. I'll never let Cassius off of knowing a God damn dragon. I'm also calling for the late game return of Richards who will help bring about the next arc.

As for Schera and Kloe... I want to see Schera and the Debaucherous Prince be together! Please...

As for Kloe, time for her to face that weird guy from school... (notice that I'm forgetting names...).

Cold Steel I and II Kai are coming out west for PS4. Most interesting but is that they have duel audio. Hmm...

And yeah, PC will get duel audio as well. Basically securing a replay. I'm gonna miss hearing Sean Chiplock as Rean.

It's cool that they'll patch it in, if only to shut up the "no JP voices, no buy!11!" morons. But personally I really love the english dub and the extra voiced lines in the PC version makes it the definitive way to play for me. Nothing bugs me quite like unvoiced lines showing up in the middle of a cutscene. It's what made me start playing games with JP voices in the first place, I think it was the first Neptunia on Vita that only had like 30% of the lines dubbed or something. It was super jarring.

But anyway, you failed to mention the most important detail here. XSEED is releasing the PS4 ports, which means they haven't lost the license yet! Doesn't mean they're necessarily getting Sen III and IV but it's certainly a good sign. I would imagine that whoever gets them would want to release the PS4 ports of I and II as well.

It's a good sign for sure. The ports coming over is also a good sign for Sen III and Sen IV. Falcom needs the first two games on the PS4 and have new people play them to get people caught up (enough) in order to play Sen III and IV. It wouldn't make sense to tell people to hit up the PS3 or any other platform to get started.

I truly believe that all this uncertainty over Sen III and IV will be over around the time the ports comes over. So say 6 months. Worst case scenario is summer 2019. Whoever has it should announce it then...

Damn, wtf. Just yesterday I almost posted an optimistic joke about her work on London Detective Mysteria wrapping up last week.

Wonder what (if anything) this means for future Trails localization. It being sudden and her not having something already lined up kinda makes me think she didn't leave voluntarily, though...

edit: You know, after thinking about it some more and reading other people's thoughts, I'm more and more convinced this might it for Trails. It was kind of a passion project in the first place and if no one is left to push for it then I could see XSEED not picking up CS3/4 at all. Hell, Hatsuu leaving is actually kind of a good indication that they haven't. ?

So that leaves us in the darkest of timelines, where NISA picking it up might actually not be the worst possible outcome. :bun-depressed:

Well, looks like Hatsuu might proof the Crossbell fan localization since there's nothing legal stopping her now.

And regarding CS3/4, Hatsuu wasn't the first person to coordinate the localization of Trails games. She really only came to the fore front with 3rd which came out like... last year (seriously can you believe that!?). Regardless though... hold on to dear life!
