Come in, sit down and grab a cup of whatever it is your drinking. Let's talk about some Player Unknown's Battlegrounds; The game that's taken the PC community by storm.

What is PUBG?

  Quote

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is a massively multiplayer online survival game developed and published by Bluehole for Microsoft Windows. The game is based on battle royal-style game mods previously developed by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene for other games, but expanded into one standalone game under Greene's creative direction. In the game, up to one hundred players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others while avoiding getting killed themselves. The available safe area of the game's world decreases in size over a match, directing surviving players into tighter areas and forcing encounters. The last player or team standing wins the round.

Oh shit its in Early Access? Whomp!

Fear not video game player, for whilst the game is very much an Early Access title, it's an absolute stonking good time. You see, I'm a big believer in enjoying the game that's put before you rather than the one they promise. And whilst they're doing pretty well at nailing those promises as of right now, who knows what's coming down the line. The point being: PUGB is arguable one of the most unique experiences in games right now, and if you think you might like it, now is very much the time to jump in.

Squad Up!

I figure if theres enough interest we might be able to party up at some point. Solo is fantastic; tense, scary and incredible exciting..but every now and again I long for some human interaction. So if interested, we'll sort something out.

I've been meaning to get this but it's almost guaranteed to be better with a squad. Going solo kind of have to have you go Rambo/Predator on every squad you come up on. You also would be shit out of luck if you come across a squad that work like this (not to say that they don't make mistakes):

Maybe I'll get it during the summer sale or something. Then we can group up on Discord.

Can you play squads if you're going alone?

I've only played Solo so far, and from what I hear it's a completely different experience than it is with a team, or even just one other player.

As for Discord, shouldn't be a problem. I'm fairly sure Dean was motioning to pick it up eventually, and as it gets closer to going final I imagine more people will be willing jump on board.

I mean, that's a little reductive. I watched the Solo's and whilst his strategy was to avoid combat until the final 30 or so people, he certaintly didn't 'hide and run away'. Also, he won the 2nd of 3 rounds. To be honest, I'm not convinced he didn't get stuck on the side of a cliff in the final round. Either way, $15k for an hours work isn't too bad.

If my Day Z days tells me anything... Being solo and trying to get into combat is silly. Gun fights telegraphs your position. With no squad, you can get surprised attack and down you go. Sure, if you have a clean kill then go for it or if you get shot at then engage if you can but prolong combat is just no good. Besides, this is PUBG. The ever changing play area will eventually force a fight.

I also would totally watch a PUBG team tournament. Solo is solo but seeing good teamwork is just awesome. Add in some tomfoolery and you got a good time.

They also ran some Duo's and Squads, and whilst I think they're a little more tactically, I'd need to be more invested in the teams themselves to really get into the scenarios.

As for the the above link. Obviously it's high-end play. The guy have a viable strategy and it lead him to win. The game obviously has some issues it needs to sort through, like players hiding in water and on a more e-sport level: how they actually present the broadcast, but all things considered I really enjoyed it.
