Mr. GOH!
To take the discussion out of the "Games You Bought" subforum, I'd like to play some virtual boardgames this summer and am willing to schedule chunks of time in advance. Here is my general availability, all times local to New York City, Eastern Daylight Time: I am usually available weeknights between 10:45 pm and 1:00 am. Not a lot of time, I know, but it's my traditional gaming/watching TV time. Tomorrow, Friday, July 7, I am free from 7 p.m. onwards. On Saturday July 8 I am not free until after 8 p.m. On Sunday, July 9, I am free from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., but the 12:00 p.m. cutoff is strict. The following weekend of July 14, 15, and 16, I am free all weekend except Sunday night, which is the Game of Thrones season premiere. I am also free the entire weekend of 21, 22, and 23rd until around 3 p.m. on the 23rd. I am free on July 30th, aside from when Game of Thrones is on. I am willing to play any game, keeping in mind that I am out of practice and have not played a bunch of the TTS games I actually have bought. I would be willing to buy almost any game suggested, so don't worry about whether I own a game or not. I was thinking of playing Scythe first, just because I saw a group of folks playing it this past weekend, but I am willing to play just about any game. I am most resistant to fun social games over TTS, like Secret Hitler or cards against Humanity; I just think they wouldn't work as well virtually as in person. deanb
My general availability is: Most the time, GMT. I've the odd appointment now n then. This July I've also got the weekend of 15th n 22nd for siblings birthdays. (though I am free on 21st but I'll be having my mum n sister over...though not to host, they're just using this place for its beds that night so I can be anti-social). For ref: 8PM EDT is 1AM GMT/BST. As for TTS I've not played that much (and certainly not online) so bit of bearing with me on the functionality of stuff. I've officially got Zombicide (which I've played IRL). I've also grabbed a few things off the workshop, mainly stuff I've played IRL. No idea if this link'll work mind. Do agree with some of the more social things(slightly less so on Secret Hitler being a "social game" mind). I'd suggest Discord for voice chat? Mr. GOH!
TTS has voice chat, I believe, as well. Although I have nothing against Discord. Never played Zombicide, but I'd like to give it a try! Edit: yeah, my evening times will never work for you folks across the pond. I think times like 8 a.m. my time, 1 p.m. your time, might work best. Edited July 6, 2017 by Mr. GOH!
deanb
I've now had my weekends of birthdays, so I'm pretty much free all next weekend (and weekends after). Only slight tweak might be going to an IRL board game group on sunday evenings.
Mr. GOH!
My Sunday just got booked, too. I am free after 9 p.m. British time Saturday, though.
deanb
I'm pretty sure I'm free then too.
Mr. GOH!
Excellent. I'm actually free after 8pm your time; forgot you're an hour earlier than the Continent. @Hot Heart you in?
Hot Heart
That should work for me!
Mr. GOH!
Now what should we play? I'm down to buy any of the modules, if need be.
Hot Heart
I got a hankering for some Scythe, myself.
deanb
I can do some Scythe. Never played it before, but can be a quick learner.
Hot Heart
I should be able to teach everything. The rules are available here if anyone wants to read up.
Mr. GOH!
Scythe it is! I will read up on the rules, too.
deanb
Got em downloaded. Holy crap is Box a PITA site to navigate and use.
deanb
Well that was all quite fun, and I think I've certainly got Scythe a bit more figured out and a lot more comfortable with the controls of TTS (i wonder how VR would play). I think it'd be neat to maybe have a couple others. The chat on Discord worked quite well, I might nudge Dan to set up a dedicated TTS channel (or maybe give me admin powers n I can do it myself..hint hint). As discussed for potential future games: I own on DLC: - Zombicide I have in the workshop: Of which I physically own: - Abyss - Discworld Ankh-Morpork - Cards Against Humanity -Suburbia (though digitally) And all of them I've played except Concordia (Hot Heart suggested it) and Dark Souls (it was a top rated game and it's singleplayer which I wouldn't mind having a spin with more of that kind of game). I would be up for teaching Abyss. I think Zombicide would work well with the three of us or up to one more. And I kinda want to give Secret Palpatine a spin (though with more people, similar with CaH. Be neat to have a crack at a forum-wide CAH one evening/afternoon/morning)
Hot Heart
Yeah, TTS worked pretty well overall despite the odd calamitous drawing/dealing/dragging moments that were funny more than anything, and it was a real pleasure playing with you guys. I'm up for trying most games unless they're a bit too fiddly or perhaps require too much communication. I mean Scythe was super fun but it still took three of us a bit over 3 hours, I think. Then again, that is slightly more fiddly than most, just that single turns can be fairly quick. I suggested Concordia because it's a sort of "step up" from Catan and moves fairly briskly all in all, plus I can remember all the rules, which usually helps. I think the only problem is needing to keep zooming in on text if you don't know the cards that well and having to check other people's discard piles (since one type of card can copy the top card of any discard pile)
Mr. GOH!
I'm not into CAH or Secret Hitler over TTS. I'm fine with fiddliness in board games on TTS; I think things were slow mostly because Dean and I were utter Scythe and TTS n00bs. I would like to play Scythe again at some point, too. deanb
Yeah, I maybe took a bit of time to get grasped on the rules of Scythe. I would think future games would be much shorter. TTS was relatively intuitive despite its many many quirks. Definitely enjoy that you can scale up pieces, can't do that in real life. Slightly disappointed the table doesn't properly flip in that DLC. Also it's a little bit weird things like flicking pieces isn't locked out of something like that Abyss I'd say is about on-par with Scythe in fiddliness (though much less worker placement). The auction system might be a tad pain to do virtually, but I guess it's just saying yay or nay. I'm off on Wednesday so I'll see on setting a bit of time to go through what I've got added in my workshop n see how they work. I know how a chunk of them play in reality, just in a digital world (digimon digital monsters...) to get hang of and make sure things work out. e.g Abyss has pearls as a currency which I can't see going well in a physics sandbox. But might mean it's something else in the TTS edition.
Mr. GOH!
I'm up for anything. I think I'll be free earlier in the day on Saturday, from around 2 pm UK time to 9 pm UK time. (9 am to 4pm NYC time). The DLC I own are: Superfight, Scythe, Battle for SOuls, Darkest Night, Mistfall, Three Cheers for Master, Tiny Epic [whatever], Wizard's Academy and Cosmic Encounter. These were just ones I got for cheap during various sales, although I've heard good things about cosmic encounter. Edit: I am now free Saturday until 5pm UK time or 1 pm NYC time. Sunday I am free after 5 pm UK time. Edited August 2, 2017 by Mr. GOH!
deanb
Yeah I'm pretty open to most things. I've played Cosmic Encounter before IRL (though some time ago). I believe it'll be kinda super fiddly. I've given a few of the games I've grabbed a spin, not really sure how to make Zombicide work despite it being a DLC game. It looks super cool and looks like it should do a lot of the fiddly stuff for you but...yeah not super sure. There's a dial on the table to set to specific pre-built scenarios but I think I need to read a DLC manual for how that works (it includes the rules and they're pretty standard). Superfight for me sits in the same realm as CaH so I'd guess you wouldn't be super keen on it. Strikes me that the actual digital version of that game would work better anyway. I've vague peripheral awareness of Mistfall and it meaning to be decent. Checking up on BGG it seems it's sort of game for me (I quite like co-op games, see me also adding in Legendary). It's an RPG game though, which chatting with HotHeart post match (p.s hope your meal went well) seems he's not super keen on (I'd mentioned Pathfinder Adventures, which is one of those games you play over several sessions). The others I shall google more on tomorrow (it's now going midnight here and I'm tired, just wrapping up a few posts I'd started a few hours ago). deanb
I have googled. Darkest Night looks kinda complex, but it another co-op game. Same with Wizards Academy. Tiny Epic Galaxies looks to be a bit like a couple games I've played in the past, I'd be quite down with (and BGG puts it as "best with 3"). And it's listed as 30 minutes, whereas most of the others are mostly in multi-hour things (though I guess bonus on some of the set up not being a thing, and some bits being automated). Three Cheers for Master seems kinda simple, and also it's down as 20-40 minutes which is pretty dang doable too.
Mr. GOH!
I'm down to play anything. Any suggestions HotHeart?
Hot Heart
Hey! I'm working Saturday, so I'm afraid I won't be able to make that time. I can most likely do Sunday evening. I might be doing IRL games down a pub in the afternoon but that should wrap up around 6pm at the latest, so assuming I'm not too drunk, it'll be okay. That is, if I even feel up to going out after the week I've had. So, yeah, consider Sunday evening a strong possibility. Games-wise, Wizard's Academy interested me physically (that sounds wrong...) so it might be cool to give that a try, although if I recall it could be fiddly... but at least co-op probably mitigates that a bit. Three Cheers for Master and Tiny Epic Galaxies (I think that was on TableTop) could work. I'd also add Legendary would be okay since it removes the fiddliest annoying bit of setup and takedown, and Concordia would work well enough. I'll look into some others later.
