danielpholt
Feels like I've been waiting months for this game. Ever since its reveal its been on our radar and I JUST WANT TO PLAY IT!! #GOTY2017
TheMightyEthan
There's music on in the front office and Mario's dancing is syncing with it perfectly.
TheMightyEthan
The reviews are excellent. It sounds like it goes back to the open exploration format of M64 and Sunshine, which is exactly what I wanted from it. Mine shipped today and should be arriving tomorrow. I can't wait! Also Digital Foundry has a breakdown that I'm linking to just because I find the tech behind making games work in both portable and docked mode so fascinating: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-how-super-mario-odyssey-pushes-switch-to-its-limits
TheFlyingGerbil
I have no clue when mine is arriving which is sad as it's the first time I've looked forward to playing a game in ages.
TheMightyEthan
Why are the Broodals even a thing? Their entire role could have been fulfilled by Bowser Jr and it wouldn't have felt tacked on like it does now.
Mal
They do make more sense if you consider they came from the Moon. Why are there a group of evil wedding planner rabbits on the Moon? The hell like I know.
TheMightyEthan
I am at Bowser's castle and was unaware they came from the Moon.
CorgiShinobi
I haven't played the game yet, but I thought it was obvious. Rabbits from the moon is highly referenced Asian folklore. Monster Carrot in Dragon Ball and Yumigami from Okami come to mind. Well, also the Jade Rabbit in Destiny lore, but right now that's basically a symbol. CorgiShinobi
So I'm loving this game to death. Well, until I got to the 100 jump rope scores Power Moon. I got to 70 naturally and I like to think I'm great with rhythm games. The problem with this is that Mario's jump has different heights based on how long you hold the button. Even when you think you're lightly tapping the jump button, it only takes a slight duration shift to throw your jumps into eventual failure. So I looked up some tips and ultimately I relied on this glitch which still works today. Now there is the whole "Jump at Hey" method, but the point stands that Mario's jump isn't always 100%. It's why people found success with doing the challenge on a scooter. I tried that and could not get the positioning down.
Mister Jack
So hey, is there a better way to do the spin throw and the homing throw that don't require you to play with the joycons detached? That's my least favorite control scheme.
Mal
You can do them attached. That's how I did it... and honestly the preference that Nintendo put on playing detached probably brought the game down in my eyes. I rarely used the spin and homing throw. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I almost never used any of the motion controls, it sucks that so many moves are locked behind them. It makes playing mobile mode really hard.
CorgiShinobi
I'm not sure about that. I'm able to do a lot of the technical moves with just the buttons. The one that's more of a pain to do than the motion is the circle hat attack. You have to spin Mario first with the analog stick, then launch Cappy and most of the time you'll want to hold Y. I will say, the one move you will want to know is the Cappy Jump. BTW, I use Y instead of X. So just a tap of Y and then Hold Y with ZL.
