B for Brian
I really like the idea of this genre and am hoping one of the upcoming games in it will actually turn out decent. It is a really fair style of game as everyone starts with absolutely nothing and it boils down to being good at shooting and knowing where to go to find good loot. H1Z1 was the first and PUBG made it big. Then FortNite came out and took it over. These are the 3 Battle Royale games I know of, other than Radical Heights which is still very early right now. PUBG could have been great, but the developers just don't care about it. They just want money. (A Korean company called Tancent published it). It was the kind of Battle Royale game I wanted, but it has so many bugs, is poorly optimized and has no directional sound... Not sure how you have a shooter with no directional sound. FortNite in my opinion is too much about who can build the better tower, the fastest. It's also 90% children under the age of 10. However with all of that being said, Tancent, the publishers of PUBG are working on a new game I believe it is called 'Europa'. It's a lot like PUBG but with environmental destruction and hopefully better developed and optimized. Lets discuss this genre! Do you play any Battle Royale games? Thursday Next
Just FYI that Tencent publish Fortnite in China too. I'll just leave this here...
MetalCaveman
I don't play any of these kinds of games, in general I'm not a multiplayer guy. This one sounds interesting though: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-02-07-former-stalker-team-announces-chernobyl-set-battle-royale-game
B for Brian
We've got a lot of Battle Royale games incoming. I am just looking for one that isn't broken, but has gameplay more like PUBG, not FortNite. Fractured Lands looks like it could be decent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfCEdyNY5ME
Thursday Next
Dear B for Brian, please select an abadah. Grey floaty head man is shady looking. P.S. I admire your dedication to correctly capitalising FortNite. I do the same with PlayStation.

deanb
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=behpA361zFs This has become one of the most popular battle royal games on Steam within two days.
danielpholt
So I've been playing some Blackout mode after having fallen out of love with PUBG (after a combined 350+ hours across two platforms), and whilst I can see why it's being heralded as something really really good; it aint for me. It's well presented, looks great and has that COD polish that PUBG doesn't, and likely never will have, but man I don't need that COD time-to-kill in a Battle Royale game, nah uh. It's like the worst part of PUBG that many hated; the fact you spend time looking for gear only to be gunned down, multiplied by a thousand percent. Before you know what's happened the killscreen is up and you're viewing some dude who unloaded an entire clip on you in less time than it takes to take a breath. If you're into COD, and you want to try your hand at BR, there's so much to enjoy here, but as someone who ideally would like a nice middle ground between the hyper-realism of PUBG and the arcade-fun of Fortnite, Blackout mode misses the mark. And that's a real shame because I've got very little time for PUBG anymore.
MetalCaveman
Played for a bit yesterday and I found it to be quite fun, died instantly the first match I played but being able to be revived by teammates means I wasn't out immediately. I still suck at FPS games, so there's that, but I can see myself playing this one for some time. Anyone here plays? I'm on PS4 as I haven't checked to see if my PC can run it. TheMightyEthan
I'm kind of interested in that, but I like to play with a controller, and I don't have a multiplayer sub on either console, and I'm nervous about how well I'd be able to do with a controller on PC, so... MetalCaveman
You don't need PSPlus, I haven't subbed in a while and had no issue playing. Don't know about XBLGold though.
TheMightyEthan
Oh, hmm... PS4 would be where I'd rather play anyway since I have a Pro but do not have an X. I may have to try it.
Mister Jack
I'm conflicted here. I love Jojo but I fucking hate Battle Royale.

Yeah I'm playing on PC and so far I'm loving what I've seen. I wasn't sure about the forced squad play at first but the game seems to be built with the knowledge that not everyone is going to want to go on mic, and I find that super helpful. I'm also finding it's got that fantastic Titanfall 2 feel. I don't play many FPS games online, but I did play a fuck-tonne of that.
MetalCaveman
I'm really liking the ping system, really allows you to coordinate and mark enemies without needing voice chat. I've been playing mostly as Bloodhound and Bangalore, though I keep forgetting about the ult stuff, their skills are fun to use.

danielpholt
So I ended up making the switch to the PS4 version, partially because I've got friends on that system, but mainly because the skill ceiling on the PC is just way above my own, and I was routinely getting demolished by headshot wizards I've got no chance against. Within my first 5 games on console I'd finished 2nd twice and 3rd once; so yeah....guess I'm a console guy from now on?
TheMightyEthan
Guess that answers my question about whether the game would be playable on PC with a controller or whether I'd be at too much of a disadvantage.
danielpholt
Got my first win on Monday. Ish. I got carried by two dudes who are likely half my age, don't have to work for a living and definitely don't have a kid who's trying to constantly put things in her mouth whilst trying to climb up everything.....you know. I'm slowly getting better. I'll never be a demon on this game, but I can feel myself becoming more and more comfortable with what this game is. For the love of god though, they need to work on their loot. It's so............just urgh.
Baconrath
I've won an Apex game once but then every time I'm doing well I seem to have a client crash. So far its happened twice, once a full comp restart and the other was just a blink back to desktop. Kind of a deal breaker. I could probably mitigate that by lowering some settings. Overwatch used to do the same thing. Feels 100% less jank than PUBG tho edit: it may just be my older hardware lol Edited February 13, 2019 by Baconrath :^)
danielpholt
Season 1 was a bit of a hot-mess. Underwhelming loot, poor messaging, and problems with server stability. However the community seems pretty excited by what Season 2 is promising with significantly better gear, skins and unlockables, a map that's seem some pretty sizeable changes since season 1 and i dunno, dragons? Bring it on!
MetalCaveman
Free to play, comes out tomorrow. I'll probably play it, have fun for a bit and then never return, just like with Apex Legends.
MetalCaveman
Played for a bit. Loadouts being a thing changes the game in some interesting ways. Primarily that people just farm money at the start, buy their loadout and then that's it, so you see a lot of people with the same weapons. It also seems like operators can only be unlocked by purchasing Modern Warfare, kinda disappointing but oh well.
