MetalCaveman
Ghost of Tsushima looks cool, Death Stranding is... something. Resident Evil 2!! \m/ \m/ HELL YEAH! Not too sure their new looks though, love the updated gameplay. The rest of it was weird to say the least, they said they would let the games do the talking, but this is not what I was expecting. toxicitizen
All in all, not a bad E3. There's still Nintendo tomorrow but I'm not expecting anything of particular interest for me there. So we've got: Mild interest/need more info: Trials Rising Metal Wolf Chaos XD Prey: Mooncrash Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Dying Light 2 Nioh 2 Babylon's Fall Starfield FUCKING HYYYYYPE: Yakuza 0/Kiwami PC Valkyria Chronicles 4 PC Cyberpunk 2077 Doom: Eternal Control Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Resident Evil 2 Devil May Cry 5 Ghost of Tsushima and TLoU2 gameplay both looked really cool but no PS4 means I have to pretend I'm not interested. Same for Death Stranding although the platform situation seemed ambiguous at the initial announcement. I'm not holding my breath for a PC release but until they flat out call it a true exclusive I'm gonna have a tiny bit of hope.
Mal
Looks likes from one of those Resident Evil CGI movies. Another trailer: And it will be playable at E3 so hold your horses! Edited June 12, 2018 by Mal
toxicitizen
That trailer actually makes it look much slower and deliberate than you'd expect from RE4-style gameplay. Hope to see a proper gameplay demo soon, maybe that can set my fears to rest. Someone on Era claims to have insider info that the game will also make use of fixed angles in some manner but I'll believe that when I see it. Looks like it will have the tank controls and a new one (RE4 styled?) too.

We'll be getting a new console gen by then.
Mister Jack
Finally caught up on all the conferences I missed while I was at work, which was pretty much everything except Square-Enix. Ubi was lame. I don't give a crap about Assassin's Creed anymore. The only thing they had that I was even kind of interested in was the Donkey Kong expansion. Very underwhelming. And who the hell was asking for more For Honor? PC show was average. The Sega announcement was the best part. Other than that there were a few games that looked fun, but nothing that really got me hyped. Pretty average. Still, that Yakuza. Sony was weird. Why do they keep wasting time with these weird musical bits? It was nice to get a better look at some of their games, but that gameplay was scripted as hell. It picked up more in the second half after that RE2 reveal. Slow start but solid if not spectacular finish.
Mal
I'm coming to conclusion that I have forgotten everything about Beyond Good and Evil. Which is why the trailer for 2 is nonsense to me. Edited June 12, 2018 by Mal
TCP
Loved the banjo playing before Last of Us. I mean, sure, technically, it wasn't a banjo since it was a guitar head/neck/tuning but you know what I mean. I don't understand why they had to move, that killed the press conference's momentum. Save Last of Us for last so we didn't understand why they were in a church till the end. Over all though, Death Stranding, Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, and Spider-Man looked great. Not only that but Todd Howard said in an interview that Starfield is currently in a playable state while TESVI isn't, and they still didn't show anything of Starfield. It was 100% a "here, stfu about this already ffs" announcement. I wouldn't expect TESVI until a couple years into the next console cycle at the earliest, and that's assuming that Starfield is a launch/early next-gen release.

Mister Jack
Well the only part of Nintendo's E3 that was interesting was Smash, but at least Smash had some good surprises. I'm a little disappointed that we're only getting a few new fighters, though. I would have dumped some of the extraneous Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus trash, but Snake is back so I'm content. CorgiShinobi
Yeah, that mecha game looks sick. Admittedly there could have been more, but at least it wasn't boring and filled with awkward transitions. *hears flute in the distance*
Mister Jack
Well E3 is more or less over for all intents and purposes so let's see those report cards. EA EA gets an F- from me. That was, no joke, the first E3 conference where I actually fell asleep from boredom while watching it. Not only was it boring, but they also butchered Command and Conquer while they were at it. I don't even play C&C, but I feel so bad for anyone who is a C&C fan. What EA did with your beloved franchise is appalling. One of their worst conferences ever, and for EA that's really saying something. Microsoft Microsoft gets a B. They're improving! Most of their interesting stuff was third party and multiplatform but hey, at least it wasn't boring. There still isn't really any reason to own an Xbox One if you have a decent PC, but I don't think Microsoft cares that much as long as you're using one of their platforms. They showed some cool games. That's what matters. Bethesda Bethesda gets an A. I think they had the best show in the conference. Their non-gaming bits were actually entertaining, Todd stole the show with his charisma, and MOTHER FUCKING DOOM. Fallout 76 looks ok. I'd need to know more about it. The presentation for it was charming, at least. This was a huge turnaround for Bethesda after last year. Devolver Digital Devolver conferences are a meme. There's no point in giving it a grade. It's nice to finally get Metal Wolf Chaos though. Square Enix I hate to say it, but Square gets a D- for that lame show. We already saw almost everything they had to show, and the new things they did show were just teasers with no meaningful information. The only reason I graded them higher than EA is because they at least had the decency to not desecrate a nostalgic franchise in the process. Ubisoft Ubi gets a C. I find myself struggling more and more to care about Ubi franchises with each passing year, but I realize there are a lot of people out there who still buy every new Assassin's Creed. I might be more excited about Beyond Good and Evil 2 but honestly fuck prequels. I'm sick of prequels. You know what? C- for no new Splinter Cell. PC show The PC show gets a C. It was pretty average. The Sega announcement was the best part. Other than that, there wasn't much worth talking about. I saw a few games that I might (might) want to play, but this show just convinced me that the days of big, exciting PC games are probably over. Sony Sony gets...a B, I think. They did have some cool stuff, but they really need to leave the band at home next year. That was just weird and awkward. The games they showed off were interesting, but that gameplay was scripted as all hell. Also Death Stranding had better start making sense soon or I am gonna lose my frickin' mind. Nintendo Nintendo gets a B. Yeah, this is one of those rare years where I really can't say any of the big 3 feels like they have a clear advantage over the other two. Smash looks good, but that was the only thing they had worth mentioning. No Metroid Prime, even. They only announced three new Smash characters too, one of whom is an echo character or whatever they call it. Then they said they won't be bringing in many new characters. I find that kind of disappointing. I know that it's an accomplishment to bring in every previous fighter, but I can think of a few I'd prefer to lose in favor of new, better characters. I thought Bethesda's show was kinda shit. Couldn't care less about Fallout 76 or about games that literally only show a logo. Microsoft was somehow the best out of the big companies, mostly because they actually had a proper show with games in it. PC Gaming Show was the clear winner, though, for obvious reasons. 32 minutes ago, Mister Jack said: PC show The PC show gets a C. It was pretty average. The Sega announcement was the best part. Sorry but what the fuck does this even mean? lol Do you mean big exclusives like TLoU and the likes? Because those were never really a thing. PC exclusives tend to be in genres that generally don't work on consoles. RTS, 4X, grand strategy... mostly strategy games, I guess. Anything else like Crysis or Half-Life would obviously be multiplatform these days. Edited June 12, 2018 by FLD
Mister Jack
It means that no big company is going to develop a big budget game with the PC first in mind anymore. At best we'll get ports from the consoles and hope that they aren't poorly optimized cash grabs.
toxicitizen
Have you not heard about our lord and savior, Cyberpunk 2077? But yeah, I'm not sure what you expect exactly. Got any examples? I mean, what does "PC first" even imply for most console-friendly genres? Insane graphical tech? I'd much rather get interesting gameplay and strong aesthetic style, personally. Mister Jack
Crysis was a good example. It has console ports now, sure, but it was designed first to take advantage of powerful PC hardware. Anyone with even a half-decent PC these days can outperform a PS4 or Xbox One. I don't care if the consoles get to have their ports, but it would have been nice to see someone actually take advantage of that extra power. I wasn't expecting it, mind you, but it would have been nice.
Mal
I'm not too sure if I want something like Crysis, something that required FutureTech to run well. Hell, even today you can run into trouble (i.e., frame drops and such) with even the best on the market since it was developed under the assumption that clock speeds would massively improve. What we actually got was more cores. I look at it this way: Consoles are glorified PCs (excluding the Switch), especially with the current generation. I'm not saying this as a demeaning thing. It allows for a more freer flow of games that resulted in some truly unthinkable ports to come along. This applies to both directions but it probably means more with the PC. A game kind of lives forever on PC, be it through ports or emulation. To me, that's a major part of it's beauty. Not when you have legions of complete fucking morons cranking everything all the way up on their potato and then complaining about "muh optimization". Implementing tech actually meant to only be viable in the future doesn't seem like the best move these days. Even if you label it in big bold letters "DO NOT TURN ON UNTIL 2020", you'll most likely still get fucking morons calling your game a "shitty port" and review bombing you. Hell, just look at Quantum Break for a recent example. The game has insane global illumination tech that's genuinely demanding but people still complained about the resolution scaling and called it unoptimized. Mister Jack
Sekiro is confirmed to NOT be an RPG. There are no stats to level or armor and weapons to collect. There are no classes and no multiplayer. It is purely a single player action/stealth game.
