TCP
I bought this a few days ago. Nintendo said it was "temporarily unavailable" but the order button was still active. I was expecting my order to get cancelled but it shipped on Friday. Too bad you can't use the d-pad in Link's Awakening or this would be perfect. TheMightyEthan
I don't think I will ever understand the appeal of "classic" controllers. Microsoft nearly perfected the controller with the OG Xbox's Controller S, and everything since then has just been all the other companies realizing that basic design is the best and iterating it.

TheMightyEthan
@Mister Jack That and the weird location of the black, white, pause, and back buttons are why I said "nearly".
TCP
@TheMightyEthan classic SNES controller makes SNES games feel more authentic. But I am the guy with nearly 800 vinyl records, so, YMMV. Anyways, the wife, Mrs. Poet, wants to play Untitled Goose Game (geese are cute), Stardew Valley, and Pokemon Shield, so I got her:
toxicitizen
I finally hit my breaking point with the Steam Controller. I still think it's great features-wise (although most of that admittedly comes from Steam Input and not the controller itself) but I've been having some weird firmware issues (at least I'm assuming they're firmware related) for a while now. First off, I basically can't use it in wireless mode anymore because the fucking thing turns itself back on immediately after I turn it off. I've tried everything and it's either wired mode or taking the batteries out after every play session. Then there's these weird issues with the analog stick that are kinda hard to explain. Essentially, movement sometimes feels kinda stuttery where my character will seemingly come to a complete halt (or slow to a walk if the game has pressure sensitive movement) for like a fraction of a second. It's barely noticeable visually but you can definitely feel that something's wrong. This one actually went away for a while but started happening again recently and at this point I'm just having none of it. At some point I went into the calibration settings and noticed that there's some weird pushback against the stick. I'll hold it forward but you can see the little dot trying to move back to the center. I also noticed that when rotating the stick it moves in more of a square shape instead of a circle. Really not sure wtf is going on there... Finally, it always felt like it had a cheap build quality and I recently noticed that the rubber on the part of the analog stick where my thumb usually rests has been completely worn down to the plastic underneath, which has never actually happened to any of my controllers before. So yeah, when you add all this shit up I feel like I'm way overdue for a replacement. Sony also just announced that Uncharted 4 and God of War are coming to PS Now, so I was gonna need an xInput controller to play those anyway. I considered a Dualshock 4 but since PC games that support Playstation button prompts are still kinda rare I decided to go with Xbox. I also have no idea if the DS4 would even work with the Xbox app/Gamepass so better safe than sorry.
TheMightyEthan
I don't usually like custom controller colors, but that one is pretty... The only controller that I've ever worn the stick down the plastic on was my launch Xbox 360 controller.
toxicitizen
Yeah, I thought that was the nicest one by far. I ordered directly from Microsoft and I was surprised by the amount of options available. There was even one where you actually pick your colors to customize your own but that was way more expensive. edit: YO! The new humble monthly unlocks are kind of insane! Crash alone would've been great because I've been wanting it for months and it's still like 30 bucks even on sale. But Spyro came out on PC literally a month ago. Guess it must've sold like shit because holy FUCK, talk about screwing over your early adopters lmao. Edited October 4, 2019 by FLD

MetalCaveman
Waiting was worth it, got it for $30, which is considerably less than the $72 it normally goes for (yay for Mexican prices! ).
Mal
Final Fantasy IX for Switch I felt like replaying it and it was on sale. Considering I'm getting the figurines, it's about time I did another replay (been yeaaaaars). How can I say it's my favorite without replaying? toxicitizen
I played all the free Year 1 campaigns and enjoyed the hell out of them, so I mostly got this to keep doing the story. The game does an absolutely terrible job of explaining itself to new players and I'm honestly still kinda confused about what I should be doing or focusing on (although nowhere near as much as I was at the start when you're just dropped into the tower with little to no explanation). So I'm not sure if I'm getting this too early or how much of the free content I still have to experience but whatever. I already got 30 hours out of the game and I want to keep playing, so Bungie has earned at least the price of this expansion. I might get Shadowkeep next month if I don't stop playing before then, although it really sounds like the campaign is barebones compared to Forsaken. TheMightyEthan
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch for Switch. I decided portability was more important to me than resolution.

deanb
I too got a Switch. I'll be honest I'm getting an itch for pokemons. I gave my brothers OG Switch a go a couple weeks back to check things over and one of my main issues was how crappy the joycons feel, especially docked to the console (might just be my brother has kept crap care, and he is 12, but felt so diconnected. Felt as attached to the console as those mobile phone game controller dock things), and since they're built in directly that's not an issue here. Overall compared to my brothers while this feels more "plasticy" it's substantially lighter as a result and is just about the top end of "slips right into a pocket". Got it now cos 1. I had transport to a retail park where I could get it on offer and had a voucher from my bank (which meant I got Switch + Minecraft for £175). 2. I'm looking after my bro next week so can get in some quality time rather than waiting for the Pokemons to come out. Also part of why I got Minecraft since he has that (he also 'has' Fortnite too and Brawlhala so might kick his butt in those). Other games will likely arrive over time, though as I'm well aware with Nintendo the prices hold for an unreasonably long length of time. I am eyeing up diving into Fire Emblem some point and hearing good things on DQXI. Also a birdy told me of this fab JRPG I might be into...FFIX or something...
TheMightyEthan
I'm not knocking your decision to get the Lite, because it sounds like you have good reasons, but I do want to say that on my OG Switch that I've taken good care of the joycons when docked feel like they're all part of on thing, they don't feel separate. Definitely doesn't slip in a pocket though...
CorgiShinobi
Yeah, the joycons on my OG Switch are firm, though I don't use it in handheld mode a ton. @Mister Jack I too have RingFit Adventure. I needed a more interesting way to continue working out rather than an app bugging me.
Mr. GOH!
Disco Elysium. I cannot believe they made a game like this but I am *incredibly* glad they did. I have spent maybe an hour or so with it and it is hilarious.
TheMightyEthan
Preordered Pokemon Sword, even though there's no way I'm going to get through Golden Deer and Ni No Kuni before November 15...
Mr. GOH!
Outer Worlds, Death Stranding, and Jedi: Fallen Order. Really enjoying Outer Worlds as a polished and limited scope New Vegas spiritual successor.
TheMightyEthan
As soon as I make a little progress through my backlog I'm planning to subscribe to Xbox All Access on PC for Outer Worlds.
TheFlyingGerbil
Came to post that I got a free month of xbox ... ultimate.. game pass? Or something like that. All the free games. Will need to decide what to play before I redeem it else it will probably go to waste. Also, this appeared when I went to post so turns out I forgot to post this from a while back. loved the first one more than the average reviews. Do not know how I'll cope without the Drippy though as it was such a pleasant surprise to hear a Welsh accent - not sure I've ever heard it in a game before.
toxicitizen
Well, guess I'm all-in now. Wasn't sure if I wanted to get it right away but then I realized that, outside of Halo Reach likely launching soon-ish, there's essentially nothing coming out for the rest of the year that I want to get. So, fuck it! Got the Deluxe Edition so I'm good for the full year's worth of season passes. Looking forward to playing another story campaign but I also felt like at this point I just wanted to have access to all the content and be able to participate in limited seasonal events that are going away at the end of the seasons, like Vex Invasion. toxicitizen
Oh ok, I see how it is. I say this: 22 hours ago, FLD said: there's essentially nothing coming out for the rest of the year that I want to get and literally the next day Zachtronics just drops this on Steam out of fucking nowhere, making me a liar. I still haven't bought that A.I. visual novel they released over the summer because it honestly wasn't really what I wanted from them but I didn't expect to get a proper Zachtronics puzzle game just a few months later. Even after watching that trailer twice, I still have no idea what I'm getting into here and I wouldn't want it any other way!
MetalCaveman
Now I don't have to spend Christmas alone!
