The embargo just dropped on a 7 hour hands-on preview for multiple outlets for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and it looks like they fixed my every concern with Odyssey, so here we are.

I obviously won't have enough time to play this, plus Miles Morales, plus Cyberpunk, so I'm thinking I'm going to cancel Cyberpunk and I'll wait to get it until the full next-gen upgrade launches sometime next year.

Decades of experience in the industry? Lol. Dunno. Just a gut feeling. The scope, the delays, the crunch, the corner cutting on some stuff I just think it's going to disappoint.

The scope: Hacking, shooting, dialogue, driving, rpg elements, action elements, you cram all that stuff in and some of it will feel a bit naff which makes the whole product feel lower quality.

The delays: coupled with the scope I get the feeling it's either feature creeping like a bastard and they're having to finish or cut stuff, which leaves the game feeling like it is missing something or is bloated and they can't decide which to do which means it will feel a bit of both.

The crunch: critical bugs will be missed, quality of coding drops during crunch, and the above issues of scope are compounded.

The corner cutting: Naming characters "Esquerdo" and "Certo" for "Left" and "Right" when "Certo" means "correct" not "right" as in handed, while that on it's own is a throwaway thing, it suggests that there is a lack of finesse/oversight within the project as a whole. Just like spelling mistakes in your CV don't mean you can't spell, they do suggest that you didn't bother to double check.

All that makes me think that it's going to disappoint a bit. *shrug* I could well be wrong. It's not my bag either way, I just think it will disappoint based on the hype around it.

That all makes sense. I do want to say regarding scope, all the previews I've read/listened to make it sound like it actually feels quite good to play.

You bring up a good point about bugs, which I guess is another good reason to wait for the next-gen upgrade next year, since hopefully any major bugs will have been patched by then.

Aren't pretty much all of these things fairly typical of AAA game development to one degree or another? It sounds kinda bad when you put it all together like that but it's not like any single aspect of Witcher 3 is flawless, either. But the overall package still ends up being greater than the sum of its parts. At least, in my opinion. I know some people still like to go on and on about how the combat is somehow "bad" lol.

Personally I'm not too worried. A part of me foolishly expects the best game ever made (lol) but I also know to realistically expect it to be rough in some ways, especially around launch. And even then, it HAS to end up being more interesting than Assassin's Creed, of all things. I'll take ambitious-but-flawed over assembly-line-cookie-cutter any day.

This, I know that Cyberpunk will most likely fail to deliver the "best game ever" but I'm bored and tired of the Ubisoft formula, so even though I like Vikings, Valhalla isn't something I'm interested in, I might get it later on when it's on sale, but for now Cyberpunk looks way better in every way, even if it has a messy launch. :P

Oh yeah, I'm not saying Assassin's Creed is going to be better or more interesting than Cyberpunk certainly, but since I am planning to play both of them on PS5, and Assassin's Creed has the full next-gen version available at the launch of the console, but Cyberpunk won't have it available until next year, I'll just wait until I can get the fully-featured version of Cyberpunk. If the next-gen version of Cyberpunk was going to be available at launch then I'd be making the opposite choice and holding off on Assassin's Creed.

The last three are somewhat, but scope and delays not so much. Most AAA games have a pretty tight core loop, which is why most of them release on schedule.

I can't fault CDPR's ambition, but I just have a feeling it will land like No Man's Sky did. A sort of "oh, this is *it*?" feeling. It will have its fans, but I don't think it will be a 9/10 rated must-have.

I hope I'm wrong, if only because I've met CDPR folk and they are decent, like I say, just a gut feeling.

I'm glad you said it because I have the same feeling. I loved Witcher 3 and I really want to be excited for Cyberpunk but every time I hear about it lately it's some new story about how a planned feature had to be cut or scaled down. It just gives me this nervous feeling that CDPR might have bitten off more than they can chew.

Goddamn, No Man's Sky?! I can understand some healthy skepticism but those are some abysmally low expectations lmao. Can't say I see where you're coming from at all. Especially since we've seen some pretty elaborate gameplay demos of Cyberpunk whereas the whole NMS thing mainly revolved around people deluding themselves into thinking there HAD to be more to the game that they were keeping under wraps for some mysterious reason. At this point, all I can say is that I sincerely hope you're as wrong as I think you are. :P

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition

It was on sale for $15 on PSN, which was cheap enough to get me to bite. I was already planning to wait to play it on my PS5, but then I found out they've announced they're doing a PS5 upgraded version, which will be free to owners of the PS4 version, so I guess I'll probably wait for that...

I actually have some of the previous games but they tended towards MMO type or active-time turn based RPG. I couldn't get to them at the time when I got them since I was/still busy with other massively long turn-based RPGs. This one is more towards action RPG so I might take to this better (a la Genshin Impact). We'll see how this goes... I want to scratch the itch of wanting a wuxia-like based game. I even got a wuxia book to read!

Ghostrunner. After I finished Sleeping Dogs (which I always want to call Watch Dogs), I needed something to play while waiting for the PS5 to come out. I'd seen reviews of this and they were all glowing, and there was a free demo so I tried it and damn. This game is amazing. And don't let the haters tell you it's not playable with a controller, I'm halfway through and have only been using a controller and I'm loving it.
