danielpholt
On June 26th 2012, Apple invented the podcast. 8 years later, they're literally everywhere. There's podcasts about your favourite games, there's podcasts about two dudes watching Star Wars in two minute increments and heck, there's even a podcast about some dudes dad who wrote a porno. I dunno, it's crazy right? What's more crazy is that we don't have a thread for all this madness. So jump into the replies, lets talk about our favourite podcasts, our favourite podcast adverts (I'm typing this comment whilst I wait for my Casper mattress/Blue Apron parcel/Me Undies delivery/Harrys shaving box to arrive in the mail-shipped via Stamps.com obviously), the medium as a whole (Spotify eh?) and maybe even our favourite podcasts apps. So, what are we listening to? MetalCaveman
I'm currently only listening to the MKBHD podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/6o81QuW22s5m2nfcXWjucc I used to listen/watch Off Topic, the Achievement Hunter podcast, but got tired of it when every episode was just "White dudes get drunk and complain about the most first-world problems you can imagine". Outside of that I'm not much of a podcast guy, if I'm listening to something it's usually music.
danielpholt
I used to be a massive MKBHD guy, but watching him talk about all these amazing new phones when you're struggling to put together enough cash to pay rent doesn't feel great. TheMightyEthan
I listen to NPR's Morning Edition every morning on the way to work (it's not technically released as a podcast, but somebody has used NPR's API to shoehorn it into one), and usually the BBC News Hour on the way home. Any other time I want to listen to something, or any time I'm tired of the news, I've been listening to Radiolab, but I'm almost caught up with it now and I don't know what I'm going to do then... deanb
One of my main podcasts is the Empire Film Podcast which does...well films. They do a weekly regular podcast and occasional "Spoiler Special" with deep dives with directors (including the marathon M:I Fallout 6hr podcast). It can, as a long running podcast (400th weekly episode in a few weeks), have quite a few in-jokes which might put people off but you get the swing of things fast enough. https://planetradio.co.uk/podcasts/the-empire-podcast/ 99% Invisible is a good podcast with weird range of topics, though can be a tad pretentious at times. I do like their podcasts having a written companion article with pictures and such which can add flavour. https://99percentinvisible.org/ Two pretty nice short podcasts at "50 things that made the modern economy" (currently into its second series, so there's closer to 80 atm) and "30 Animals that Made us Smarter". The same guy who does 50 things does one called "Cautionary Tales", but I'm yet to start on that. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04b1g3c https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w13xttw7 They're both about 10 minutes a pop so ideal "quick job" podcasts. 2 that are kind of done are "SyFy Origin Stories" which is a series of podcast interviews with various Sci-Fi stars https://www.syfy.com/syfywire/podcast-episodes "David Tennant Does a Podcast With..." is also a good run of interviews with...well David Tennant. Turns out when you've the career he has you get a lot of friends you can call on for some interviews. https://play.acast.com/s/davidtennant
