xCloud is launching in beta on September 15, with over 100 streamable games, as part of Gamepass Ultimate. Even your saves will transfer back and forth between local and streaming sessions.

We'll have to see how it performs, but I'm pretty sure they just put the nail in the coffin of me ever buying Xbox hardware again. Or probably a gaming PC for that matter.

Oh, and unlike PS5, xCloud supports DS4. ?

I wouldn't be surprised if they planned to launch with Halo in November but the disastrous reception forced them to push it back.

Yeah, that's obviously what happened. I imagine they considered things and decided to delay to work on the graphics a bit.

Was that the only major launch game, though? I know a lot of the games from their acquired studios are gonna be coming in a few years but surely Halo wasn't the only big one? lol

I actually forgot about the creative director leaving. Yeah, there's no way this was due to the graphics backlash alone.

My guess is the graphics backlash was the straw that broke the camel's back. They knew they were having trouble, but they also knew they had no choice but to make it for launch, and then the backlash made them realize the problems they were having were actually going to be a big issue.

Seeing reports of a Series V, which would be the X minus the disk-drive. Not sure on price yet.

As for the consoles we know about. I'd saved up to buy myself one of the new consoles at launch, however paying £30 or whatever it is per month with Gamepass Ultimate included is too good an offer to turn down. Thinking I'll likely grab the X on finance on day one....

Looks like the Series S won't be able to run the One X enhanced versions of Xbone games, it will instead run the One S versions, and then apply some of its own enhancements, like texture filtering, but won't do stuff like increased resolution.

Microsoft is doubling the price of Xbox Live, which pretty much draws a clear line between Xbox and PlayStation. You want the Game pass? Go with Microsoft. Not interested? PlayStation.

Apparently the subscription will also now be required for free to play games.

Phil Spencer is now saying that future Bethesda games will be exclusive to "platforms with Gamepass", which isn't surprising, but really sucks. He says it's all about giving Xbox gamers great exclusives, but Bethesda games were already on Xbox, so he's not actually giving them anything, he's just taking them away from Playstation. This does not benefit any customers, other than the fact that the games will be on Gamepass, but that doesn't require buying the company or making them exclusive. This actually makes me less likely to buy an Xbox/sub to Gamepass because I don't like feeling like they're trying to coerce me.

Yeah, I'm not buying Gamepass just for one studio's games. This is Epic Store shit and it pisses me off. I don't want an Xbox and getting a PC that will be good enough to play next-gen releases is just not going to happen anytime soon because PCs are just too god damn expensive now. Whenever I do manage to afford one, however, I'm definitely not resorting to Gamepass just for Doom, Fallout, and Elder Scrolls. If they try to keep those games from Steam and make them Microsoft Store or Gamepass only then I'll grey market or even pirate that crap with no remorse. Say what you will about exclusives being bad but at least Nintendo and Sony typically make their own exclusives.

It's a weird one. MS can do what they want with their money obviously, and Bethesda can do what they want with their... company? Neither of them owe it to anyone to make the games available on a competing platform, but I understand the consumer dissatisfaction.

If I was a platform owner I wouldn't buy the likes of Bethesda, Squeenix or whatever, as Ethan pointed out above, you don't *gain* anything since the games were already on your platform, you pick up the enormous tab of developing the games that you used to just collect free money from, and you have the consumer sentiment hit that devalues your brand and the acquired brand.

Better to pick up smaller indie studios who have IP that is cheaper to develop, fresher ideas, and people tend to perceive as a more positive story.

Yeah, they can do whatever they want, but by the same token I don't have to buy their products or services if I don't like what they're doing.

Honestly Arkane is the part that hurts the most. I like stuff like Wolf, TES, and Fallout, but it's no great loss to me. Arkane, on the other hand, is a real blow.

I mean, from the sounds of it I wouldn't be able to access their stuff even if I did still want to support Bethesda. Like you though, I'm not really into their games. Dishonoured was ok, but not something that has me beating my chest and gnashing my teeth in despair.
