Mister Jack
What worries me is that Microsoft might try to pull an EA/Ubi/Epic and decide to pull all their games from Steam and make you buy it from the Microsoft store. Just the thought makes me want to vomit, and we know that Microsoft intends to buy up more studios so this is absolutely a possibility. An even worse possibility is that they might remove the ability to buy them at all and make you subscribe to their service if you want to play the games. That probably wouldn't happen now, but in 5 years time? They tried to force an always online console so I'm not putting anything past those fuckers. TheMightyEthan
I doubt it, they've been putting their own games on Steam for the last couple years.

Ever since they started doing this, I low-key assumed that they would eventually backtrack on it at some point, maybe after Phil Spencer is gone. But a few days ago I saw something about how Forza Horizon 4's Steam release performed in Asian countries and now I think Steam might actually provide them with a significant enough source of revenue/market reach that it would make no sense for them to pull out. Especially if rumors of Gamepass coming to Steam are true. At the very least, I'm sure it's obvious to them by now that their games perform significantly better on Steam than they do when released exclusively on their shitty store. I don't think they would've gone back to port Forza if that wasn't the case. And it looks like that did pretty well despite being sold at full price over 2 years after its initial launch (last I checked, it had reached a higher peak concurrent user count than the previously biggest racing game on Steam). So yeah, they're doing a lot of the right things right now but I'm not naive enough to expect MS not to start being shitty again at some point in the future. I don't think it's going to be anytime soon, though.
Mister Jack
Game Pass coming to TVs and browsers. It would be nice if this actually works because I want to play Bethesda games without having to get a new desktop or an Xbox, but I'm still skeptical of the technology if only because the US internet infrastructure is complete crap. TheMightyEthan
It's already on browsers, don't know why that's in the headline, it's not even mentioned in the body of the article. The news is that it's coming to TVs as a native app, and also that the servers are being upgraded to Series X (they're currently One S, not even One X). I hope they make an app for Fire TV Stick. I'm sure there'll be one for Android TV, but my Fire Stick 4k has better performance than the TV itself does.
TheMightyEthan
So I've been playing through the mainline Halo games in preparation for Infinite, and since Halo 5 isn't on PC I've just started it via xCloud on PC, and I'm seriously impressed. Image quality isn't amazing, with artifacts/blocking when the view changes quickly (though interestingly this doesn't happen on the prerendered cutscenes, which makes me wonder if for those it's not capturing and re-encoding them like the gameplay but actually just sending the video file itself), but it's serviceable. The thing I'm really impressed with though is the responsiveness. I was worried there'd be too much input latency for a shooter to work, but honestly I can't even feel the delay. I can tell it's there, because my accuracy isn't as good as when I was playing the other games locally, but it's not bad at all. My old TV had more input latency than this. I wouldn't want to play PvP this way, but for campaign it's good enough. So yeah, xCloud isn't there yet as a real replacement for console, but as a way to play a game here or there that you don't have the hardware for it's a great option. Mister Jack
Why the hell isn't Halo 5 on PC anyway. It boggles the mind.
toxicitizen
They only just finished porting the MCC less than a year ago. I'm sure they'll get around to it. I mean, they ported Forza Horizon 4 even though FH5 is coming this year. It doesn't look likely to be before Infinite's launch, though. TheMightyEthan
No, I don't think Halo 5 is ever coming to PC, they would prefer to pretend that game doesn't exist. They ported the multiplayer to PC years ago, if they were gonna do the campaign they'd have done it then. The FH4 Series patch isn't really a full port, it's just a patch to enable some of the PC features on console.

Which... they have? As for the Halo 5 mp thing, that was years ago and their PC strategy was different back then. It's entirely possible they didn't bother simply because they knew it would sell like shit as a Win10 store exclusive. I guess it's still possible they'll just skip it entirely but I think them porting the entire MCC (and even adding Reach to it) makes it significantly more likely that it'll happen. It's literally the only mainline Halo game that's not available on PC.

It was brought to PC day and date with the console version, years ago, so that port has nothing to do with the fact that FH5 is coming soon now. That's not a confusing name for a console at all!! But no, I meant the Steam release from earlier this year. It's a new port because it's not a UWP and it was enough of a port job that they hired an external studio to work on it. Tbh I wasn't even thinking about it being on the Win10 store prior to that. Which is weird because I actually played a little bit of it on Gamepass.
