Oh you want more?

They just didn't bother me as much as the one I highlighted. I guess because that was at the end and harder to be brushed away by the films continuing action.

I understand some of your complaints but a couple seem a bit nitpicky. It wasn't by any means a perfect story but gaping plot holes? I didn't see much  of that. Maybe smaller ones that bothered me like the wall.

Just got out about an hour ago and all i can say it WOW. I went in expecting to love the sh*t out of this film, and it didn't disappoint  I'm not saying its the best film ever made, because its not; but it did exactly what i wanted it to do. Sure the characters are a little one-note, and i think the second act suffers a little from being overlong; but all in all i loved everything on show.

Its the first film in a very long time whereby i've left the theatre in a more excited mood than i entered.

Also i think i uttered 'Holy Fuck' like 30 times in that theatre. Thankfully i was alone for 3 people sitting 9 rows below me. A visual feast that i won't forget in a long time. One of my favourites; and probably my favourite new film of the year (also my 125th).

Time constraints kill so much character development and cool discussions for the sake of action. I mean I'm not gonna watch them again anytime soon but the LotR films are imho better wit the extra hour added to each.

I don't think its in the regular cut; but those scenes with Boromir celebrating victory at Osgilliath are some of my favourite from that series. I think it added an important bit of character to Boromir that we didn't really get in the theatrical cut.

Just saw Pacific Rim, and it was pretty amazing. Obviously it has the summer blockbuster flaws, but most everything I can think of are nitpicks. You have to remember, the very notion of giant humaniod mecha is highly impractical and goes against a megaton of real world physics. If you ever get the chance, read the two page article in the latest Wired magazine. Hell, it would take so much more lift/power to lift a Jaeger than a handful of Chinook helicopters. I don't know where Wired got the specific heights, but supposedly the Kaiju and Jaegers are taller than other mecha and "kaiju" of other films.

Either way, I thought when it came down to it, the movie explained itself enough to roll with a stand-alone original movie. I'm not sure you could truly make another Pacific Rim other than...

Anyway, del Toro wanted to be super original (as far as the genre goes) so you're not going to see any references. I didn't mind how there was a time jumo because it filled you in on the intial attacks, the development of Jaegers, and so forth. Seeing the beginning would have been slow if you think about it. This movie drops you into the culture of a world use to giant mecha and giant monsters.

The neuro-link stuff still bugged me like I thought it would, but I was able to tolerate it. They did mention how pilots could be linked up, but you would have to find highly compatible pilots to effectively fight. That's why...

Yeah, at that part I actually leaned over to my brother in law and said "I think it would take a few more helicopters than that."  I'm okay with fake physics in a giant monster/mech movie, as long as they don't look fake.  There were three parts that screamed "fake" to me in that movie:  the helicopter part, the part where they're swinging the cargo ship around and it's not just folding in half under the stress, and at one point a kaiju steps on a semi, which has a fraction of a second of resistance before getting crunched.  That should have been like me stepping on a toilet paper roll.

Obviously incredibly minor problems overall, but each time it pulled me out of my suspension of disbelief.

I was okay with the boat sword in the trailers, but yeah, they use the boat as a sword for (I think) three good hits. I thought to myself that maybe you could get away with a single hit, but that the boat would be broken into pieces afterwards. Another little thing was how, though the pilots are neuro-linked and should be in each other's head, Mako brings attention to Raleigh that Gypsy Danger has a sword now. It's something that works, or is literally normal, 99.99% of the time because, well, how many other action movies do you have where the partners are sharing brain power?

Glengarry Glen Ross: Great film. The number of people who don't get the Ol' Gill reference in the Simpsons must be staggering. :)

Pacific Rim: Was a decent summer blockbuster, but didn't set my world on fire. Still a good film, but I hoped it would be more.

The World's End.

Did the 'Cornetto Trilogy' in an evening so saw a midnight screening of this. Can't say too much without spoiling it (and the trailers ruined a large part of it). Obviously, its style is similar to Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, except it's not as all-out funny as the former and never really as dark as the latter. If you're used to the films, you'll be able to spot the bits of foreshadowing (and the relevance of the pub names), though I don't think it was as subtle or prevalent as it was in the other two. It actually has some decent drama and Pegg does well as a bit of a dickhead while just about remaining sympathetic.
