Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I Saw the Devil. Such a superb movie. The director gets extremely creative with the foreground and background, and makes a rather beautifully-shot tale of horror and revenge. The acting is also fantastic, and the movie kept me guessing until the credits started rolling. That being said, I think I've been desensitized to on-screen violence. Plenty of actions in the film were truly disturbing and gross, and my brain registered them as such. But in terms of getting a shock out of me, it was more like a "wow, that must hurt" rather than a "OH MY GOD WHAT AM I WATCHING IS THIS REAL LIFE?". Anyway, I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a nice, disturbing thread of death and destruction. Or any budding filmmakers out there, to get some prime examples of how to properly add weight and tension to a scene.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Eh, I find it hard to recommend when the Vengeance series exists. Not that I Saw the Devil is in any way bad... it's just been done before. Arguably, better.
TheFlyingGerbil
Ugh, I could barely sit through Love Actually and I love romcoms. I was much too conscious that they were acting which stopped me enjoying it and was actually a bit cringe-inducing. If you want to see Alan Rickman as a good guy I would highly recommend Sense and Sensibility. It is a really great film, though I guess not everyone loves period dramas (I can't get enough of them). Mister Jack
I watched Trick 'r Treat as my Halloween movie (though I didn't actually get a chance to watch it until after Midnight). It's actually pretty good. It's not shit your pants scary like...well, any horror movie claims to be, but I found it consistently entertaining throughout. I considered it more like a horror comedy with a very dark sense of humor.

TheFlyingGerbil
GO TEAM JACOB! I watched Breaking Dawn Part One today. I think I may have started ovulating because I enjoyed it and can't wait a whole year for the next one! Having said that I watched all the first three yesterday so I don't know if that addled my brain.
Hot Heart
Saw Tintin last night. Great film. Some superb action scenes and some good performances (I think Daniel Craig in particular did a very good job). The only thing I'd say is a bit odd is that it moves at a rather brisk pace, which might be a little off-putting for some, and even when it does let up it's filled with backstory/exposition which is itself full of action. That and maybe some of the character stuff feels a little forced. But, really, no major flaws. Definitely recommend seeing this.
Mister Jack
I've been wanting to see that. Are you over in Europe? I don't think it's out in the states yet.
Hot Heart
It has been out a few weeks in the UK already but I just checked and, yeah, seems you guys get it much later. Very odd.

Mister Jack
It has been out a few weeks in the UK already but I just checked and, yeah, seems you guys get it much later. Very odd. As far as I know, Tintin has a much bigger following in Europe than in the states so I think what they're trying to do is establish some buzz in the franchise's region of origin before bringing it over to the states, which isn't as familiar with the brand. I can understand that and all...but damn, I wanna see it.
Hot Heart
I guess. Although, considering the style of the film and the pedigree behind it, I'm surprised it would need to generate any more hype.
TheFlyingGerbil
Wait, so the Twilight movies are actually good? Maybe I should watch one of them after all... I put it in here because I enjoyed it, rather than that it is good. I would suggest it is not going to be most people here's cup of tea. They're a rather strange mix of romantic drama and quite gruesome bits. Imagine A Walk To Remember but you actually see Mandy Moore wasting away... and then getting mauled by a wolf. That sounds pretty incredible, but somehow I doubt Mandy Moore is actually getting mauled by a werewolf in the real thing.
TheFlyingGerbil
I watched Ruthless People the night before last. I've seen it several times and it is still awesome. I think it's one of my favourite 80s movies and it's _very_ 80s. Bette Midler is brilliant. I'm watching Beaches at the moment and Outrageous Fortune is great as well and I know it's not 80s but Hocus Pocus is super too.
excel_excel
Alright, the girlfriend dragged me along to Breaking Dawn Part One and......it was good. Much better than the other Twilight films I've seen. There felt like actual chemistry between Bella and Edward was much more convincing, and Jacob was probably the best played character in the film. Also the CGI thin Bella was really realistic. That birth scene though.....it was well done for a 12's rated movie but just such a weird scene. My girl was gripping my hand so hard during that bit. CorgiShinobi
Oh, I just realized how I didn't post about Puss in Boots. Yeah, it was actually pretty good. Dreamworks pretty much milked the ogre dry, and I originally thought Puss would carry the tradition of "Cash-In." Nope, it's really great all-around, though obviously as an adult you'll notice some troubling plot holes. Then again Puss in Boots actually remembers that the setting is suppose to be "fairy tale" and not "we've got fairy tale characters." One last thing, Humpty seriously looks Zach Galifianakis without a beard. At least, it feels that way.
Mister Jack
I saw The Muppets today and it was great. It really remembered what made them endearing in the first place rather than just using them as gimmicks to prop up lame tv specials. CorgiShinobi
Horrible Bosses Got it for $12 on Blu-ray (DVD and Digital Copy), which I'm glad I did because this pretty much qualifies as just a "good" movie, nothing too great. Personally, it got a bit stale with how the three main characters kept acting like knuckleheads. It was still funny at times, but I couldn't help but comment how they could have gotten out of each scenario. It was surreal to see Jennifer Aniston as a nymphomaniac too. TheFlyingGerbil
I watched departures yesterday. It was enjoyable. Funny in bits and emotional in bits. I'd recommend it - it was interesting to see about death in a different culture.
