Mister Jack
I'll probably wait for the DVD and go the netflix route.
CorgiShinobi
I never got the hype for Sucker Punch. Oh, it has babes and video-game-like fantasies? Alright, but I'm going to have to see it to believe this prophecy of excellence. The more I hear about it, from reviews and others, it sounds like a 13 year-old's wet dream after a midnight marathon of Xbox and Fritos. Mr. GOH!
*snip* The more I hear about it, from reviews and others, it sounds like a 13 year-old's wet dream after a midnight marathon of Xbox and Fritos. Oddly, it's not quite like that. I mean, the movie is pretty terrible for a host of reasons, but it's not, erm, sexy enough to be a real 13 year old boy's fantasy. I mean, the movie seems to take place in worlds constructed to be the fantasies of 13 year old boys, but the film's perspective is a bit different. staySICK
I want to see Suckerpunch. A lot of movies I want to see are starting to hit lately.

Well, one complaint I've heard is that it doesn't make sense. However, with that complaint I've heard advocates of the film saying, "It doesn't need to make sense since the girls are crazy!" Sure, you can have crazy people, but I don't think that would be an excuse for a poor story and/or writing. It's very straightforward though; there are very few plot twists, and the message of the film is delivered pretty hamfistedly. Mr W Phallus
Just finished Rushmore and I watched The Royal Tenenbaums earlier today. Both were really good films, but I feel like they're both the kind of film that you need to re-watch in order to fully appreciate them. Plus the streams I watched really didn't do Anderson's direction justice. Personally I prefer Fantastic Mr. Fox to these two.
Strangelove
I just saw Under The Red Hood. It was really depressing.
deanb
Watched Tangled while doing some work. Not bad. The horse was real good. Doesn't help "working" was 3D, so yeah there was bits of it I was paying attention to that may of detracted from the overall film. Anyway I think I've found a birthday present. Also didn't know it had a name change: Justin Chang of Variety compared it to changing to the title of The Little Mermaid to Beached
CorgiShinobi
I thought the lizard was going to be an annoying character before watching it, but there's no annoying characters in the film at all. The horse was probably my favorite of the bunch, but they were all good.
Mr W Phallus
Also didn't know it had a name change: Justin Chang of Variety compared it to changing to the title of The Little Mermaid to Beached I presume they mean because it's based on the story of Rapunzel, rather than Disney were going to call it one thing then changed their minds. deanb
No, they changed their minds. Marketing felt it didn't have broad appeal due to "princess" in Princess and the Frog apparently been it's downfall in limiting it only to girls. http://en.wikipedia....ed#Title_change
MasterDex
Watched 'Until the Light Takes Us' last night. It's a great documentary. It tells the story of the early years of Black Metal. Unlike most other genres of music, Black Metal didn't come silently into the fray. It arrived with an entrance fitting with it's style of music. Even if you don't like Black Metal (or Metal in general), this is a compelling documentary.

Also 'Rapunzel Unbraided' is a contender for worst film title ever.
CorgiShinobi
I saw "It's Kind of a Funny Story," and you know, it wasn't that bad. I would put it more so in the Good thread instead of the OK one because there was actually some good bits to it. I can see where it doesn't appeal to everyone. Some kid feels like he's suicidal and it comes to the point where he checks in to a psych ward. It doesn't follow the cliches of other movies with psych wards though, and I appreciate that because at times those cliches can be overblown. Bobby (Zach's character) is what probably puts this into a Good movie. I say this because, really, the main character isn't that messed up. The whole time, I swear most everyone should come to realize, "Dude, everyone goes through that same crap. Deal with it!" That said, I think this film makes a perfect commentary on the attitude where teens have that psychological delusion. In the end, what did he need to do? Relax, grow some balls, and find a hobby. He states that while he hasn't been "cured" that he can at least handle each day onward. To me, again, this is life. I guess everyone has the same "issue," but as you come to learn, as long as you have friends and family, you'll be alright. Heck, even the other patients look at the kid and wonder why he thinks he has it bad. But again, this follows the melodrama teens have where school and stupid crap somehow equate to the end of times. Eventually, you see how he recovers and lives his life. Truthfully, I think it was a good example of how people could balance their lives. P.S. There is this relationship-girl etc-stuff, and while it was completely hacked into the plot, and conveniently put in place, it served a great purpose towards the end goal. CorgiShinobi
Watched Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. It was good if a mite predictable. Had some neat little touches though. I think possibly the best thing about Mask of the Phantasm is when Bruce is confronted with the choice of personal happiness or his commitment to the promise he made to his dead parents. It wasn't like he had been Batman for a year or so, but was just beginning. Obviously it wasn't polished, and so the draw of getting married and living his life with love was truly great. Perhaps crime fighting was a trauma induced ambition and all he really needed was a woman's love? I could go on, but you've seen the movie and get where this is head, right? Hot Heart
Yeah, I got that. It wasn't particularly subtle about anything but it did it well enough. I think my favourite part was when that guy's had a table flipped onto him and he's fumbling for his gun while Batman walks over slowly then, instead of kicking the weapon away, just stamps on the table and knocks the guy out. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Source Code. That movie is so incredibly amazing. First "Moon" and now this? Duncan Jones is now my new favorite director.
deanb
Watched Deathly Hallows Part 1. Pretty damn good. It's certainly gonna spook my little sister. She's only watched the films, but I knew what's coming at the end, it'll be Bambi all over again. Like all the films there's a few bits missing, but it all went along quite well. So yeah, now to wait for July. And at the moment watching Fifth Element, which is a pretty damn awesome film. Certainly in my top 5.
Mr W Phallus
Yeh I really enjoyed Deathly Hallows Part 1, so much so that I actually saw it twice at the cinema, which considering it's 2 and a half hours long and not the most action packed of films (and considering the price of cinema tickets these days) is quite an achievement for a film.
