toxicitizen
After reading about it (I think) in this thread, I sat down with a friend last night to watch The Troll Hunter. It's pretty damn good if you're into found footage movies.
Mister Jack
I was actually a little disappointed in Deathly Hallows. I didn't hate it, but I felt it was punctuated with too many long camping scenes where nothing happens. Yeah, I know it's being faithful to the source material, but what works in a book doesn't always translate as well to a movie. Actually, I seem to recall people voicing the same complaint against the book. I haven't seen the movie yet but in the book the camping parts sorta brought the pacing to a halt. deanb
It slows things down, but it's not an action film. If it was action, action, action then things would be a bit iffy and too fast paced. It needs to reinforce their isolation a bit. In the other movies they've generally got the safety of the school, other students to back em up. Also they need some of the other slower scenes to back up that the wizarding world has gone 1984.
TheMightyEthan
So I just saw Sucker Punch. Wasn't what I was expecting, but I liked it a lot.
P4: Gritty Reboot
So I just saw Sucker Punch. Wasn't what I was expecting, but I liked it a lot. Same here. Quite enjoyable, even if it had its issues.
TheMightyEthan
Honestly I think the only thing I didn't like about it was the end narration, but since it's only like 30 seconds of the movie I can overlook it.

You are the weapon, Ethan. Now go fight!!! Cheesy as anything, that's for sure.
Mister Jack
Watched Gangs of New York. Decent film but it left me a little depressed by the end.
Thursday Next
I too liked Suckerpunch. I love dark films, mostly because they are so rare. The film started out brutal and ended with a pretty pyrrhic victory. The denouement with the orderly breaking down and confessing everything was efficient if a little, contrived, though short of a Lord of the Rings-esque post ending ending I don't know how I would've changed it. One thing I would've changed however. I'd have killed one of the girls off earlier. I didn't really get a sense of peril in the action scenes because they hadn't established that the good guys could die in them. As a result they just sort of became visual spectacles. Also, I got the distinct impression that the two sisters were actually a split personality. Would have to watch it again to see if that theory got blown out of the water in the wrapping up part of the film.
MasterDex
I just realised I never mentioned 'The Man from Nowhere' here. It's an excellent S. Korean movie and won a load of awards last year. The lead actor, Won Bin, brings a superb performance and the pacing is really good. I recommend everybody to see this movie. It's the best movie I've seen in a very long time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o3X4GqfZZ0
Thursday Next
I just realised I never mentioned 'The Man from Nowhere' here. I'm getting a strong "Leon" vibe from this trailer (this is a good thing) not suggesting it's a remake/copy/rip-off or anything. Just the Social Misfit Assassin - Kid relationship and stuff. Definitely on my to-do list.
Mr W Phallus
South Korean revenge thriller? Count me in.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Speaking of South Korean revenge thrillers, I really want to see I Saw the Devil. People I've talked to who saw it in theaters at select AMCs said they loved it, and that it is absolutely brutal. Unfortunately, Netflix doesn't get DVD/Blu-Ray copies until May 5th. Mr W Phallus
I know I'm psyched for I Saw The Devil too, not available to rent from Lovefilm until the 9th here. Hopefully The Man From Nowhere will tide me over til then, if I can get my hands on it that is.
Mr W Phallus
Source Code is a great. Go see it. Unfortunately once the film was finished my friend immediately said 'It was just copying Inception' and I have a feeling this is a stigma it will struggle to shake off, even though it is a) nothing at all like Inception and b] probably better than Inception. That's weird. My friends and I collectively agreed that Source Code is much better than Inception.
Mr W Phallus
Finally got round to watching The Social Network. It's been out for ages now I'm guessing I don't really need to tell most people how good it is.

It's been out for ages now I'm guessing I don't really need to tell most people how good it is. I love that movie. If you have the DVD, you should check out the behind-the-scenes stuff. It's very extensive, and the making of the film is almost as fascinating as the film itself. You wouldn't believe the amount of trickery they had to use to get around Stanford's unwillingness to cooperate with the filmmakers.
Strangelove
I love Red Dragon. I cant believe Bret Ratner directed it.
CorgiShinobi
Rio I'll keep this short. It looks great, it sounds great, and it definitely has a lot of funny moments. There are some moments where it can be weird rather than funny, and Will.i.am's musical banter can sometimes be unwanted. Still, I would say it was a really good movie. The ending was obvious, but when you have viewed so many of these films, it's more of the journey than destination. That, and it is true that Spix's Macaw are critically endangered. EDIT: Also, Nigel is a great villain. He's the cockatoo, and seriously, he's a menace to everyone. Edited April 17, 2011 by Atomsk88

Yes, Let Me In is a perfectly reasonable remake. It gets a lot of unwarranted hate for coming out so soon after the original, but the changes they make work for the film. For example, in a world of cell phones and instant communication, it makes sense to take all that away by sending the movie to the 80s.
