Hocking
Watched the A-Team remake the other night. Usually not a fan of summer action blockbusters, but I really enjoyed this one. It's over the top immersion shattering excessiveness really worked in it's favour. It almost makes you keep watching because you want to see what is coming next. Yeah, Liam Neeson really fires on all cylinders in that movie.
Yantelope
Pirates 4 was great but I love all the Pirates films so bear that in mind. I just finished Tron: Legacy. I found it enjoyable. I think the music/atmosphere were a large part of it for me though. Sometimes the world can actually make a movie with an average plot better. Gyaruson
I watched Rio and Thor this weekend. I enjoyed both of them, although Thor more so. I am totally stoked for all the upcoming Marvel films now. I said to myself that if they could get Thor right, then I would let my guard down for Cap. America, Avengers, etc. Really solid stuff coming from Marvel film nowadays.
Thursday Next
I can't get behind Captain America. I think he, along with Superman is one of the worst comic book heroes ever. It's not really his fault, he just hasn't aged well. Running around with a star spangled shield is as trashy as it is lame, as is the name, "Team America" parodied it for a reason. Also, I hate the "weedy person is useless, be a jock or gtfo" message. Not to mention the somewhat uncomfortable idea of genetically engineering a blonde, blue eyed master race (but it's ok cos the good guys are doing it). Much as I've been enjoying the recent Marvel films, CA is one that I will definitely skip on.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I find it kind of funny how little you know about Steve Rogers.
Thursday Next
Weedy person = Useless? Check. Not jock? GTFO? Check. Some sort of genetic engineering fanangling? Check. Blonde? Check. Blue eyed? Check. Master race? "We are going to win this war because we have the best men." The best man being some Aryan jock. Check. Running around with ridiculous shield? Check. Comical levels of patriotism not even found in films that set out to spoof the absurdly rabid patriotism displayed in Hollywood? U! S! A! U! S! A! Errr, I mean "Check". Like I said, I think he's about the worst comic book hero ever. I'll skip this one thanks.

Thursday Next
@Strangelove and FDS: As amusing as my lack of encyclopaedic knowledge of the (entirely fictional) life and times of the comic book Steve Rogers is, I have yet to see anything approaching a counterpoint to all the reasonable deductions from the available trailers of the upcoming *movie* depiction of him. Maybe if you took a break from your snide elitism and spent a minute to actually tell me how I am wrong in my assessment of the movie trailer you'd actually add something beyond pointless snickering to the thread?
TheFlyingGerbil
I'm watching Dan In Real Life as it's on TV again. I really like it but there seems to be quite divided opinion over it. I may get it on DVD as it's one I enjoy rewatching, which I don't with a lot of films.
Mister Jack
Saw Kung Fu Panda 2. It's a pretty decent follow up. Good job, Dreamworks.
Hocking
Watched Event Horizon this morning. Pretty decent piece of Sci-Fi, really nice sets. Although for something supposedly terrifying, it's scares were rather lacking.
Yantelope
Event Horizon scared the piss out of me when I saw it in the theater. I was 15 and kind of a wuss though. Movies are always scarier in the theater especially when the sound is up really loud.
Hot Heart
I always remembered Event Horizon not so much for the 'scares' but for freaking me out. Haven't seen it in about ten years though.
deanb
I was even younger than 15. I was just sold it as a Sci-Fi. Not a "Sam Neil gets his eyes poked out and the ship is coated in blood" sci-fi film. Can't say I have fond memories of it.
Hocking
Event Horizon scared the piss out of me when I saw it in the theater. I was 15 and kind of a wuss though. Movies are always scarier in the theater especially when the sound is up really loud. If I'd watched it at 15 I'd probably have shit my pants. Can't say I have fond memories of it. Totally worth a re-watch I think. I'm quite fond of the effects and physical models in Sci-Fi from the 80s/90s. Looks far better than all this CGI crap. Yantelope
Yes, it was definitely sold as sci fi and not as much horror.
BrainHurtBoy...2
I'm a huge, huge, huge fan of Event Horizon. It's my desktop background right now. I find it to be entertainment of tremendous quality and it's one of the few Blu-Rays I own.
Thursday Next
Definitely a classic. Much like Alien its ability to build suspense. Sam Neill has always been a creepy guy, "In the Mouth of Madness" and whichever Omen film he did being prime examples. People always seem to find it odd when I think of him as a scary mo-fo (I put it down to them seeing him for the first time in Jurassic Park). Hot Heart
The first time I saw him was Jurassic Park. The second time I saw him was Sirens. Now that's a film you want to see when you're 15.

Hocking
First I saw of him was also Jurassic Park as well, second time I saw him was in Bicentennial Man. Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see... That was probably the creepiest part of the entire film.
Yantelope
Man, I think I need to see it again to overcome my childhood demons. That movie brings back bad feelings.
TheFlyingGerbil
I just watched Mary and Max. It's a claymation about an australian girl becoming penpals with a New York man. I really enjoyed the style of animation and it made me cry a couple of times, though I think I'm in one of those moods today.
