Strangelove
Also the fact that he's "adopted" and not from the same race. And that they never told him. Im not adopted, but adopted people seem to really hate that.
Yantelope V2
Yeah, seems strange that the fact that they never told him overrules the many years of love and care that they gave him.
Mister Jack
To the movie's credit though, his plot wasn't really "Join the biological parents to get revenge on the ones who raised me." It seemed like that was it at first, but it was really more like "Destroy my own race to prove my worthiness to my adopted father."

It seemed like that was it at first, but it was really more like "Destroy my own race to prove my worthiness to my adopted father." Ah yes, good point. So perhaps the whole deal is this. Thor is a tool. Loki is jealous. Loki ruins Thor's big day. Odin sees that Thor is a tool and hatches a plan to make him not a tool. Loki thinks that by destroying his homeworld Odin will let him be king.
Thursday Next
Pretty sure Loki just wanted power. Everything he did was geared towards that, undermining Thor, attacking the Frost Giants etc. Discovering his heritage was just something that happened along the way. Mister Jack
If that were it he probably would have let the frost giants kill the weakened Odin instead of saving his life to look like the hero.
Hot Heart
True, but he already let in those frost giants at the start, before he found out his lineage even.
Mister Jack
The lineage thing was probably just icing on the cake. He was gonna do it either way.
Hot Heart
I see. So, you don't mean he was 'proving his worthiness to his adopted father' but just proving it in general, even despite discovering his real heritage.
Mister Jack
Well yeah, but after he learned his heritage he probably figured it would be that much more effective.
CorgiShinobi
Kinda funny how the strongest Avenger has the weakest film, even when you count Hulk's first modern film. And I do mean "modern" because the first theatrical Captain America was horrendous.
TheMightyEthan
Do you mean strongest as in physically strongest, or best character?
CorgiShinobi
Do you mean strongest as in physically strongest, or best character? As far as powers go as strength depends on whether Hulk gives Thor a hard time or not. Today there was a clip from the movie uploaded where Tony Stark is going toe-to-toe with Thor and it rustled the fanboys' jimmies. I mean, I'll agree that the Iron Man suit probably shouldn't have withstood a hit from Mjolnir, but you can't help but get giddy when these characters get together and have a tussle. Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark is my favorite! Edited April 26, 2012 by Atomsk88
Strangelove
Ang Lee's Hulk is the worst piece of shit ever.
deanb
So Iv'e now seen Avengers Assemble (I saw it many hours ago but we got back n watched Megamind, which is also good) Right this bit is the "spoiler-free" thing: Film was pretty fucking sweet. Joss Whedon writes a pretty swanky screenplay, some great lines and moments in the film and the flow and pacing is pretty damn great. I'd say the only issue is you don't much care for Loki and his army of..I forget their name. Ruffalo as Edward Nortons replacement was great. Really pulls of the whole "I'm a nerdy scientist that could explode into a green thing at anytime" rather well. I think Norton's Banner was a bit too scaredy-cat and "oh I don't want to hurt you " style. But Ruffalo's is "I don't want to hurt folks, but when I'm the hulk, I enjoy it" kinda style. Works much better for the Avengers film. For managing several high powered actors, and also getting away with making a film that spends a fair chunk poking fun at itself, Whedon has done pretty damn well. He could have cocked up, big style. But Avengers was definitely worth the wait, look forward to post-Avengers films in the series now they can kinda cross over a bit more, maybe bring in other folks. p.s there's post-credit stuff. (Well..mid-credits. There's a fancy cast bit panning the suits with names, then the snippet, then it goes to the scrolling black boring credits) This is the "I'm going to respond to a comment a couple posts above" bit(Atomsks): Jarvis(the AI) in one quick line explains exactly why the Iron Man suit and Mjolnir can go toe-to-toe. "Sir, capacitors are now at 460%" "Oh Good" And this bit is the "When mere mortals have now seen it and we can chat plot elements" spoiler bit: I bet Chris Evans was fucking super chuffed that he got the "Hulk...Smash" line. But damn..."I am a god" "puny god". Got the full audience in stitches. The complete opposite reaction to Coulson . I guess he was a good one to kill off since he is in pretty much all the films, and also pretty much the only "normal" dude around(turns out both me and my sister thought he'd come back). Loki did get better in this film, but still kinda sucks. He rarely feels menacing. He's only good when he's in the cage n cold n calculated. As a fighter, not that great. Only proper fights we got was the forest one between Thor, Iron Man and Captain America's shield. The black arrow dude..hawkeye(?) kinda sucks and is pretty lame, I'm unsure why he was brought in. I guess it helped fill the roster up a bit but yeah, pretty undeveloped character. I was also bummed that the "Mk VII" wasn't the hulkbuster, would have been neat to see that one out n about. Oh god, another great hulk moment; scaring Stark back to life. Hulk was pretty fucking awesome. Though I wasn't keen on the retcon of the super-serum gone wrong. Tom didn't know about the Helicarrier. Ever since Iron Man with Coulson mentioning SHIELD I've wanted to see the Heli-carrier. Tom was as shocked as Banner and Rogers when it took off. Oh and Skrull. Lying bastard. It was part of the Kree-Skrull war. So yeah, sign me up when it goes on pre-order for the blu-ray.
CorgiShinobi
That line was... in the clip, where Thor's lightning charged the suit, correct? I mean, that would explain how Stark's energy blasts are working against Thor, but the physical suit, and Stark, would probably get messed up if Mjolnir smacked him even once. Though, again, it's fantastic fan service I imagine as long as people can indulge in the film's reality rather than referring back to the comics. At least, was it that way for you? Could you link the video so I know what not to mention or not. Mjolnir does kinda bust the suit up, though Thors personal strength does the most damage, both crushing the arm in the forest fight and just ripping the face off at the end. The main biggy is Captain America's shield versus Mjolnir.

You're right about Thor himself doing more damage too. EDIT: Quote tags were goofing up, and I don't know why... deanb
Ah, that's only a short part of the fight, but yeah Mjolnir isn't used so much in this beyond the lightening bolt, so Iron Man isn't outweighed too badly. Mjolnirs main part in the fight is against Captain America and he can hold up against it. Also damn they have a lot of clips from the film in their account. You could go into the film knowing a fair chunk of the plot. Just not much specific along the good lines I guess.
TheMightyEthan
Goddamnit, what is this, Bizarro World? It's supposed to be Europe getting fucked over on release dates, not the US.

deanb
IT's like a difference of one week and all you'd get are cams.

TheMightyEthan
Cams are always less popular than direct film copies. If someone would rather watch a cam that wait a week to see it in the theater then odds are they were going to pirate it anyway, regardless of release date. Though I will say that I saw a cam of The Simpsons movie that was so good I thought it had been made with one of those film-digitizer machines until someone stood up in the middle of the movie. Hot Heart
The Avengers. Amazing. That is how you make a blockbuster film. Never saw Iron Man 2, and I actually really liked the Black Widow stuff. Although her 'motivation', stated when talking to Hawkeye was a bit odd and sort of out of nowhere. Then again, I don't really know much about the character. And, considering all the characters, I wasn't expecting Thor to have the funniest line and delivery. "He's still my brother." "He killed eighty people in two days." "...He's adopted."
