Chewblaha
I saw The Amazing Spider-Man. It was good, not amazing or anything, but it was a movie I enjoyed quite a bit. You kinda actually feel some real emotion coming from Peter Parker this time and it doesn't seem so forced for you to have to feel bad for him. You kind of genuinely feel bad for him. danielpholt
Think i'm gonna head into town and see The Amazing Spiderman next Tuesday. Looking forward to it, but thats mainly because i like Garfield and Stone. This morning i've re-watched Attack the Block. Probably enjoyed it more the 2nd time around. Definitely worth a watch if you're into Aliens, Pop-Culture references. Its from the people that made Hott Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Hot Heart
It's written and directed by Joe from Adam & Joe, who used to do funny little film spoofs using toys. Edgar Wright is a producer, I believe. I dislike those 'from the people who brought you' or 'Quentin Tarantino presents' lines.
Mister Jack
I saw Spiderman and thought it was pretty good. However, there were a few things that bothered me so let's get the bad stuff out of the way: 1) I still don't think that actor should be playing Peter Parker. He doesn't do a bad job or anything, but he's just too....dreamy looking. I have a hard time believing a guy that looks like him gets pushed around by the popular kids. I thought Tobey Maguire had the right mix of cuteness and dorkiness in his look but I'm just not feeling it with this new guy. Oh well, too late to change it now. Oh, and the actress for Aunt May looks WAY too young. 2) Is it me or does Peter take every friggin chance he can get to take off his mask or reveal himself to people? I know he had a habit of doing that in the other movies, but here it's just ridiculous how often he runs around completely exposed. 3) What kind of dumbass becomes a masked superhero and then CARRIES A CAMERA THAT HAS HIS NAME ON IT? 4) The Uncle Ben shooting happened way too abruptly and then barely got any mention for the rest of the movie. It almost felt like the only reason they bothered with it was because they knew they couldn't do a Spiderman origin story without it. No real complaints outside of that. The action was good and the effects were decent. It's worth seeing, but at the end of the day I think I still like the first Spiderman movie a little bit more. Yeah, it was cheesier than this new film, but there's something about comic book cheese that I find endearing when it's done right, and in that movie it felt sincere. You could tell that it was being put together by people who really liked comics. Amazing Spiderman was good, but I could never completely shake the feeling that it was being presented to me by a market research team. Chewblaha
4) The Uncle Ben shooting happened way too abruptly and then barely got any mention for the rest of the movie. It almost felt like the only reason they bothered with it was because they knew they couldn't do a Spiderman origin story without it. I thought it was well done. It wasn't done ten minutes in like in the last origin film. They also show Peter kind of relishing on that for the next 20 minutes.
Mister Jack
I did like how he went out looking for revenge and eventually realized that there are more important things he could be doing, but the actual shooting itself is practically a blink and you miss it moment. The guy bumped into Ben about thirty seconds after he ran into Peter. It just felt very rushed, like "Okay Ben goes out, here's the robber, Peter doesn't stop him, okay here comes Ben, now he's dead, let's get on to the rest of the movie." deanb
edit: I should maybe point out for those not in the know is that this is a picture of Rhys Ifans in Notting Hill. He also plays Curt Connors in Amazing Spiderman. Edited July 7, 2012 by Deanb
P4: Gritty Reboot
I finally saw the Avengers, the latest showing on the last day it was playing near us. It was every bit as good as people made it out to be, with the only real weaknesses being the straightforward plot and a few very minor things.
danielpholt
I would definitely have sat through an extra 30 minutes of footage. Make me happy Joss, give me an extended cut on Blu Ray.
Hot Heart
I think it would depend on where those 30 minutes were. The first part definitely did not need any more stuff. Related advice: Never watch the extended cut of a Judd Apatow film. You will be bored rigid.
Vecha
saw Moonrise Kingdom a few nights ago, and as a big fan of Wes Anderson's movies i gotta say this was yet another great one. however if you're not predisposed to like the guy, then i really don't see this being the movie to convince you (that'd be Fantastic Mr. Fox). i'll admit Anderson has some problems as a filmmaker, but what he always gets right (for me anyways) is the characters. they manage to be "real" to me while existing in that heightened reality his films like to use. Moonrise had some truly excellent performances across the board (maaybe not the kid actors, but realistically they could have been SO much worse). Ed Norton Bruce Willis and Frances McDormand all brought their A-game, and of course Bill Murray was a goddamn delight... you know what? as long as Wes Anderson keeps casting Bill Murray i don't think i'll ever stop seeing his movies. I loved it as well. My fiance didn't think it was his best work though(She turned me on to Wes). She felt it didn't strike the balance of goofy-fantasy with realism that the other films do...She felt MK and FF are closer together than his other films. Hot Heart
Heh, that would be the one I haven't seen. I do find his films to be poorly-paced in general though.

Hot Heart
Yeah, I have so many films I intend to watch and John C. Reilly is great. I usually just wait until they hit that £3 on DVD sweet spot. I just own too much shit, that I need some way to limit myself.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I slept through Walk Hard, so I can't tell whether it's a good movie or not, other than John C Riley seemed to be a good singer.

Faiblesse Des Sens
Did Judd Apataow also do Talladega Nights? I think that also has pacing problems and is similar in its style of comedy.
Hot Heart
He was only a producer for Talladega Nights so I'm not sure how much he can be blamed for that.
Mister Jack
The extended version of Walk Hard is actually, in my opinion, the superior version of the film. The theatrical version did have a few pacing problems but that was because everything went by so much faster to save time. On an unrelated note, now that I watch the trailer, I notice that a lot of what it shows either doesn't happen or happens differently in the actual movie. It still gives you a good idea, though. If you want actual footage to go off of, here's one of my favorite scenes. Edited July 8, 2012 by Mister Jack
Waldorf and Statler
There's a reason Dee and I always say "HE NEVER PAID FOR DRUGS" Because that movie is the bees knees. Completely underrated, though you must appreciate idiotic humor done in a satirical way.
Hot Heart
The Amazing Spider-Man. It had its problems but I think it's my favourite Spider-Man film. Though the Raimi ones are a very different style so I'm not saying it's 'better'. I like the approach it took with some of the stuff, although it wasn't without a fair bit of cheesyness and contrivances that are par for the course. I particularly liked what they did with Flash; I found that quite moving and effective. And the variation on 'with great power comes great responsibility' was mixed in a little better both with the dialogue during the scene and in the general progression of the film. Mister Jack touched upon part of it with the hunting for revenge thing.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I really disliked The Amazing Spider-Man. Felt like it was the dumbest movie I've seen all year, and I've seen some dumb shit.
Waldorf and Statler
Somebody needs to take Duke's avatar, slap some thick rimmed glasses on the guy, and start a forum meme. "You enjoyed Spiderman? It gave me cancer!"
