Johnny
Spider-Man was great. Not perfect, and not quite as good as Avengers, but better than Prometheus. Much more true to the comics than the other trilogy, great acting, good writing, actually multidimensional characters... All good!

deanb
I really disliked The Amazing Spider-Man. Felt like it was the dumbest movie I've seen all year, and I've seen some dumb shit. So why you in this thread? Anywho just watched "Children of Men". It was a film that caught my eye when it came out but I never ended up watching it. It was on TV after that "top number ones" thing so I stuck around. My main issue would be that there's quite a bit left unexplained. I don't care for it not explaining why women are infertile, that's fine to remain unexplained. I'm meaning like why they got suddenly attacked near the start and also why Brightwall went to war the day after they arrived. Other than that, pretty good. TheFlyingGerbil
I watched Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Café. I cried. Not at the scene with Kathy Bates covered in cling film.

I may be late with this response... but I loved Children of Men. Yeah, some things happen pretty chaotically (though explained here and there) but what really stuck out to me was the long single shot when they are going through the building in the war zone. So good. As for me, I too saw Amazing Spider-Man and felt it was a good reboot, more akin to the comics and with some well executed fight scenes. Other than that, really been going through the tv show backlog and rewatching a few things... but thats for a different thread.
danielpholt
I really love Children of Men. Fantastic movie that too few people have seen. And we've just left The Amazing Spiderman. I'll give it 3/5. I Some very nice action scenes, and Garfield and Stone are really enjoyable but i wasn't feeling it from Ifans as the 'baddy' and it took an awful long time to get going. I'll definitely be up for a 2nd film though.
Waldorf and Statler
Yeah basically I feel that Spiderman was better in every aspect except the baddie, and that's very important. Willem Dafoe was an amazing baddie
MasterDex
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSApbJ_T8QM Fantastic biopic, a definitive biopic. I feel no shame in admitting that I had wept by the end.

Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Dark Knight Rises. It's the first good movie this year that has anything to do with superheros. I won't say it's the "first good superhero movie", because to some people "good superhero movie" means doing exactly what The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man did (and good for those people). But this movie has ambition, a drive to make you think and contemplate beyond "Wow look at all these things exploding in my face" and "Hah, he made a funny!" I guess what I'm trying to get at is that The Dark Knight Rises helped me discover that I absolutely loathe the superhero genre in general, and the only reason I've enjoyed most of DC's recent films is because they actually seem to give a shit about creating good movies instead of just skating along on the bare minimum. OK, OK, I'm done insulting the movies you like now. Just go see The Dark Knight Rises.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I'm sorry if I offended anyone personally. Didn't mean to, it was just 4 in the morning and my mind was still on TDKR.

Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I like both mindless action movies *and* deeper, more interesting movies. Yeah, both can be enjoyable; it just annoys me sometimes when people heap a bunch of praise on a mindless movie.
Popular Post deanb
Avengers wasn't really "mindless". It's not a black n white of deep or mindless. For one it pulled of having multiple protagonists pretty well.
Strangelove
Just because something isnt dark, moody and brooding for the sake of dark, moody and brooding doesn't mean it lacks depth. I wish people understood that. Im also not sure about Nolan's Batman movies being "intellectual" either. Theyre not mindless, but theyre not on the other side of the spectrum either. Not any moreso than other superhero films. Nothing against them since i like them a lot myself, but Law and Order SVU farts out crime drama every week and these Batman films are just a bit above those in the "intellectual" department. They're not even that thought provoking either. Nolan has basically ripped out pages from the headlines in the last year or 2 and adapted them for TDKR. Same with TDK. Theyre very blatant. I honestly enjoy these Batman films because I find them to be more detailed. Batman Begins more than TDK. They delve into being a superhero more personally. But I cant say they've made me "think" in any way. I'll grant you Inception being "thought provoking", but not any of the Batman films.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Yeah, I might have exaggerated a little because I was having so much fun at the trilogy event, but I really do think that TDKR is a much better movie than anything "super" related this year. It feels a little bloated at times, but all of it remains interesting throughout.
P4: Gritty Reboot
I found Batman Begins more enjoyable with each watch, but it is very blatant with its themes. ("In case you didn't catch the THEMES we're throwing at you, here's more THEME with the THEME hammer smashed down on your head. THEEEEME!") I believe TDK was the same, but I've only seen it once so I can't comment on that very well or TDKR yet. And frig man, Avengers had some good stuff beyond the action. Iron Man learning to be a "team player" (though it was foreshadowed pretty bluntly early on), Captain America learning to adapt to a new, different America. I went in with the hype engine running full-bore and it still delivered.

My wife didn't like Batman Begins the first time she saw it, said it was boring and confusing, and never watched it again until a couple nights ago (we're watching them in preparation for TDKR), but she actually found it interesting the second time around. Don't know what changed.
