Strangelove
MiB3. It was a lot better than I thought it could be. I think I liked it too much. The alien designs I thought were way more creative and original than the past movies too. The time travel thing is kind of a mindfuck though. If I were a scifi nerd, Id probably rage. But Im not, so it's all good. Edited September 6, 2012 by Strangelove
Waldorf and Statler
@Ethan: Give it a try. Their animation has really gone up hill, even if they decided to not use stuff like real hair. The story is still dealing with themes children are probably not comfortable with [death, bullying and neglecting parents] and has some great humor moments. Don't judge it based on the trailer. Mister Jack
My theater doesn't even have ParaNorman. Oh, but we got that Bourne Legacy piece of shit. Damn it I hate theaters sometimes.
CorgiShinobi
I would always see ParaNorman advertising, even during the Olympics. It has been out for a while, so I don't think you're going to see much of anything on television now, but this one I liked a bit. Cyber Rat
Just saw The Fountain. Some pretty good stuff.
WTF
You guys might enjoy Cloud Atlas. So far from the footage I've seen man of steel looks fairly decent. Michael Shannon makes a weird Zod though - it's still in post though a trailer should be out in the next 3 weeks. Major post finishes up this December. Waldorf and Statler
I saw Resident Evil Retribution and I fucking lol'd the whole way through. God dammit I love these movies.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Did I mention V/H/S here before? Because that movie is one of the best horror movies I've seen in a long time. It's loads of fun.
Hot Heart
Dredd 3D. About as good as I expected. It's a bit like a big dumb 80s action film with lots of gore, but it does actually bother to try and include a bit of a story. So, it's a good job the Anderson character (who has her roots in the comic) was included, because Dredd is a pretty boring, one-dimensional character. Though, he did catch Avon much quicker than McNulty...
danielpholt
I had no interest in seeing Dredd, however i hear its pretty solid as an action flick. I might make a double viewing of it along side Brave. Man on Wire - Fantastic documentary that plays out like a Heist movie. It documents the events running up-to and including one man's dream of tightrope walking across the World Trade Center's tallest two buildings. Amazing stuff. Hot Heart
Drive. I enjoyed it. I think it has some real strong performances and direction, though I can't help feeling there's too much smiling and staring between Gosling and Mulligan. I know part of it is the characterisation but Irene felt like a very shallow character in some regards. I really liked the score but wasn't too fond of some of the soundtrack. 'A real human being and a real hero' got on my nerves. Partly because it's a repurposing of lyrics and too on-the-nose. At least save it until the credits roll, maybe? I don't know... Anyway, it was an entertaining little thriller and I like the whole 'frog and the scorpion' element that lifts it above just being a cool jacket. Mal
Swordsman II I believe I seen number one before and perhaps III but I don't remember much. However, II is fantastic imo. Right kind of action scenes.
Waldorf and Statler
Never mentioned I saw End of Watch. Filmed footage ala Paranormal Activity for the most part, based on two up'n'coming young cops. It has Chesty Jake and Hispanic Guy. I highly recommend it, pretty well done and good reviews too if that's something that interests you. This weekend though I assume we'll all be talking about Looper. Waldorf and Statler
Guess I'll be the first to say it. Saw Looper and fucking loved it. The cinematography, the time traveling aspect, and while the ending wasn't what I would've wanted it still felt satisfying. Good movie.

Hot Heart
I wanted to see it today but my friend said he will go next weekend. Presumably, he's busy in Pandaria and Pandora. Watched District 9. Really liked it. Copley's performance was great and the special effects were amazing. Not just from a 'technical' standpoint but from how they got the expressions and body language of the aliens across. Early on, I think it lags ever so slightly, with too much repeating of information as if the audience is too stupid to follow, but the talking head stuff was well-done otherwise. Waldorf and Statler
Duke: I liked the ending and thought it was well executed in a time traveling aspect. But I would have probably preferred a happier one
TheMightyEthan
I also saw Looper and really liked it, as did my wife.
danielpholt
Looper - One of my favourite films of the year. I've been waiting for it for so long, and it didn't disappoint. Warrior - Had my blubbering. A bit formulaic, but whatever, i loved it. Cocktail - I've no idea why i recorded this, but i did and to my great surprise it was pretty good. Very enjoyable. I finally understand why people in the 80's loved Elizabeth Shue. Back boob.
TheFlyingGerbil
I was looking at Cocktail and Wall Street, and ended up recording just Wall Street. I assumed Cocktail wouldn't have aged well.
Thursday Next
Looper, great film with a lot of depth. 1. With regard to the "If he killed himself in the past he would never have been there in the first place etc." stuff. I'm comfortable with the rules being that your memories of the past, and thus the events of the past are wibbly wobbly until they happen in "local" time. That creates fixed points in time so we don't get these funky causality loops so the ending sticks. 2. What I don't get is, why the hell didn't he just shoot his hand off? That would have been plenty to stop himself from killing the mum as he would've dropped the gun. I like the ending for being the conclusion to the theme of sacrifice. Young Joe wouldn't sacrifice half his silver to save his best friend, Old Joe wouldn't give up his relationship with his wife to save her life. In the end Young Joe sacrificed his life for the woman, the kid and the future even though it was uncertain if it was the right thing to do.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, as long as time travel rules are internally consistent I don't really care if it makes sense for how it could "really" work irl.
