TheRevanchist
Agree with Atom. Frozen was amazingly good! My wife called it her "most favorite Disney movie ever". And she is a Disney fan.
danielpholt
Buried. It's a tense thriller which see's Ryan Reynolds give the best performance of his career. Reynolds is Buried in a box somewhere in Iraq. The film tells the story of him attempting to get out of the box..its fairly simply really, but really insanely gripping. I watched it on Netflix, and was on the edge of my seat for the entire run of the film. If you've got 2 hours to kill, this is a great way to do it. Hot Heart
But Buried isn't on UK Netfl...ooohhhhh. (Going from UK to US Netflix is like being in a sweet shop)
Waldorf and Statler
Frozen. It thawed my heart out. Though the main lead could've used more songs.
CorgiShinobi
Technically I'm sure she has the most of all the characters, but if I remember correctly she bursts into those "anything" songs. Like, you know, a spontaneous moment and it breaks into song. The others had more memorable songs, especially that one from Elsa. FYI, she's only 21 years-old, but is the oldest of the Disney Princesses lineup. I look at the older (chronologically) princess and I swear they look like they're in their 20's. Waldorf and Statler
It's a good movie but tbh it's one of those films you need to watch with family or with a loved one. I could have never enjoyed this as much if I had gone with ma bros
Mister Jack
Okay so I saw Frozen like everyone else did and I admit that it is as good as you all said it was.
deanb
Oblivion It was actually kind of alright. I think it had a bit of a huge wobbly moment in the middle mind where after God tells him to go looking elsewhere he has a stop at his log cabin instead which could easily have been trimmed out to keep the pacing going a bit better. I quite like that the big bad isn't entirely explained either. Though obviously it never touches upon what'll happen to all the other cloned Tom Cruieses, just the one he beat up and swapped the jacket for . It wasn't entirely unsubtle that nothing was as it seems from the get go what with "mind wiped pre-mission" and that you never see the scabs up close and such (though the trailer also gave away that element). Overall an enjoyable film, the Drones were rather well done too, quite scary in their efficiency. Also the film wasn't as short as I was expecting
Mr. GOH!
Inside Llewyn Davis. Another great Cohen Bros movie about missed chances, selfishness, the disjunctions between aspirations and reality and the resultant hopelessness. Great early 60's folk soundtrack, too. Mister Jack
I want to see that one just to see how a movie about a folk singer could possibly be that interesting but none of the theaters in my area have it.
madbassman39
I saw Hunger Games: Catching Fire. My girlfriend was a huge fan of the books, told me to read the first one, bought it for me with my kindle so I read it. The book was great, the film, not so much. I didn't read the second book, but I watched the movie with her. Boy, this was just so much better in every way. The characters were better, the plot development mattered, and as far as I knew they didn't ruin a character defining moment like they did in the first movie. In the first book Rue dies because Katniss took a minute to relax and let her guard down, and when she found Rue under attack it was too late to save her. This led to Katniss never letting her guard down again, becoming cold and always alert. Rues death defined Katniss and the whole idea of revolution. In the film she just dodged a spear and Rue happened to be behind her. It wasn't directly Katniss' fault. I wasn't interested in seeing the movie going in, but I'm ready to watch the third film now. Mal
Pacific Rim. Sure some of the stuff didn't make sense but as a giant robot versus monster movie, it works. I'm a bit upset that the Russians and the Chinese bowed out so quickly. Also the Chinese wasn't right for the region. Where the fuck was the Cantonese? Even with all those problems, I'll look forward to Pacific Rim 2 if it get made. I for sure look forward to Godzilla.
Hot Heart
There's supposed to be a lot more of the Russian and Chinese stuff in the deleted scenes (or an extended cut?). And while the US box office performance was OK, the film did really well in China, so definitely going to be a sequel. I was actually saying that there may be a trend of Hollywood blockbusters attempting to target the Chinese market some more. A few producers have said studios are encouraging it (see the next Transformers: Dinobots Or Whatever Who Gives A Shit). On that subject, Joss Whedon should add a Chinese crew member and cast a major Chinese star in hopes of getting Serenity flying again. Screw you, Chewie! TheMightyEthan
I fear that it's been long enough that Serenity would never recapture its magic. It'd be like the new Arrested Development. My dear, sweet space western, you passed before your time.
Hot Heart
Yeah, though that's not to say the new AD was bad at all. The one thing I'd really want is a Telltale Games take on Firefly. Definitely not some Borderlands 2 shit (I totally typoed that as Boredrlands first...)
staySICK
TTG can do Firefly after they do an Archer game..
danielpholt
The Hunt. Mads Mikkelsen plays a teacher (?) who's falsly accused of exposing himself, and abusing the children under his care. The film isn't afraid of its troubling subject matter, and whilst i did find certain aspects of the film a little infuriating (the way the other adults handled the accusation for a start), the plot is gripping and does a great job of showing just how much damage one lie can cause. Mikkelsen is superb, the writing is fantastic and (as-per) for a film set in this location, it looks great. One of my favourites of 2013 no doubt. Hot Heart
Went to the cinema twice yesterday, so... Anchorman 2 I must admit, despite really liking the first film, I was skeptical about this one (and sick of the barrage of marketing). I'd almost put this under 'OK' because it really does feel a little too much like throwing everything and seeing what sticks and the improv or "hey, let's try it this way in the next one" factor shows too much in parts (I feel like the first film reined it in enough). It's also a little long for a comedy, and splits up the news team too much. Still, it's got some good jokes and a silly bit of satire in there. I'm not sure if it'll wind up as quotable, maybe because it spends half the time doing callbacks to the first film rather than forging new ground, but If you liked the first one, you'd probably enjoy this. The Hobbitwo: Desolation of Smaaaaaaug It certainly zips along faster than the first film, but it isn't quite as 'fun'. You definitely get the sense that they wanted a more LOTR feel. It looks just as beautiful as before, even if the locations are a little dingier. Fortunately, I'd adjusted to the 48fps now so there were no problems there (though, with the 3D as well, I can always feel my eyes getting tired as things go over the two-hour mark). The action was as spectacular and inventive as before, partly thanks to a couple of badass elves. An admittedly silly-physics move involving a boat-flip and decapitation was a highlight. That or dwarf-water-skiing. Seeing Legolas actually get hit was a shock, though he had been saved by Thorin and then Tauriel twice in quick succession earlier on. And I guess everyone gets an orc nemesis, now... The only thing it really suffers from, besides an unwieldy length and lack of tension, is that it's a middle-chapter doing a lot of setting up without a pay-off. I mean, the first part has some of that same problem but FOTR and Hobbitone both found some sort of mini-resolution within that. Hot Heart
The Kings of Summer. One of the films I bought for one of my sisters for Christmas, (and she'd seen it before so we got a couple of extra titbits while watching). I enjoyed it. It's a 'typical' indie film with some heavy-handed writing to set up things, and it has good bits of humour here and there, nothing really laugh-out-loud though. A whole lot of unsanswered questions aparently popped up in it. Kinda like that whole Cloverfield thing. :\ -- Prisoners. I get a lot of flack for loving this movie, but as a fan of flicks like this (esp. Zodiac), I found myself completely drawn in and not let go until the credits had finished rolling. Deakins is a god among cinematographers. Edited December 27, 2013 by WhitePawn

deanb
RED 2. It's Bruce Willis, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren, again! What's not to like. I notice this time they've added a fair few comic book art transitions I guess there was some feedback on the last not been known as a comic book movie so some of the comic book moments like Bruce Willis walking out of the car and Malkovich shooting the RPG were probably not quite so expected. Though this had substantially less moments like that. In fact I can only remember a repeat of the "Bruce Willis walks into a car" scene. Some elements were a bit Archer-esque as well, though no doubt both have their roots in other films and comics.
deanb
Despicable Me 2. It's kinda like Despicable Me 1, but instead of the theme of fatherhood now it was motherhood. Along with various capers and such along the way. I felt it seemed much shorter, not much happened and it was all resolved rather quickly which was slightly disappointing. I quite like how obvious they made it who the bad guy was, would give kids watching something to feel smart about where the AVL adults are all not believing Gru.
