danielpholt
Filth James McAvoy's best performance to date? This film was awesome.
Strangelove
Captain America 2. It was pretty rad. Great fight scenes and lots of them, though not to the point of exhaustion. I hate relentless action movies with no breathing room. I like playing Ninja Gaiden, but I dont like watching it. A lot of stuff from the first one is picked right back up and somehow it still makes sense and works. Though over the years I've become very annoyed by "leave them wanting more" endings. I know these movies are part of a larger puzzle, but I think what happens in these movies should still be self contained and satisfying. I felt a lot of stuff was just left there. A LOT of stuff. Or maybe Ive just become too invested in this whole thing. I just wish the only thread left over would be the stuff involving the credits scenes. Also, theres a lot of nods and references to the past Marvel films. Its getting to the point where I feel like a lot would be missed if you just saw this one by itself. Youd be entertained, but a lot of appreciation for certain things would be lost on people. "Why the fuck was Garry Shandling in this for 2 minutes?" Im not sure if I should envy people 20 years from now who watches one of these movies, likes it and then wants to watch all the rest. Mal
Akira TETSUOOOOOOOOOO Okay, that was kind of badass. The underlying stuff is kind of weird but what happens is easy to follow. Gorgeous too. Okay, the characters may look ugly at times but their movements had so much character.

deanb
The Manga is worth a read through, if you haven't. Quite different to the film (even more so than Hobbit book to film), though both stand very well on their own.
danielpholt
Finally got around to starting the Alien franchise. Alien was fantastic from start to finish. Aliens was also very enjoyable, but it lost me a little after half way. I think I prefer the tension of the first against the action of the second. I've heard it falls off a cliff from here on out though?

Mr. GOH!
I find Alien: Resurrection to be great cinema. It was even written by Joss Whedon!

danielpholt
'Alien3' was pretty forgetful, and with Resurrection to come, I wonder just how bad it can get.
Strangelove
I watched all 4 Alien movies for the first time last year and I'm pretty sure I blacked out during Resurrection cuz I don't remember it at all.
deepdoop
Captain America Winter Soldier. very good. Yeah, I think that's the last good movie I saw too. I don't like Captain America, but the second movie was great, and came pretty close to actually making me feel something towards ol' Captain. It just does the big Hollywood comic book movie thing well, and sometimes that's all I want.
danielpholt
Prometheus Second viewing for me on here, and it holds up pretty well. Again its fantastically shot, practically every scene oozes style and sexy-ness. The story itself is ho-hum. You can see they're reaching at points, but it does what it needed to do to get where it wanted. For those counting, this is how I'd rank the Alien Franchise so far Alien> Aliens> Prometheus> Alien3 > Fireflylien

danielpholt
Prometheus spoilers: To be fair, this has been a problem in animated cartoons for 50 years. Of course Prometheus is supposed to be a smart science fiction film.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, it's been bothering me in various things since I was 6 and the Ninja Turtles did it. But like you said, this is supposed to be a big awesome sci-fi movie, not some silly kids' TV show.
TheRevanchist
I thought Prometheus was an Aliens ripoff when the movie first started, which tells you how predictable the movie was. The people's personalities were so one dimensional, like watching an action movie with little-to-no action. Then, it turns out to be a prequel without the amazing talents of Sigourney Weaver's acting and stage presence. So, I gave it a thumbs down for lack of a real plot, boring characters that I kinda wanted to die by the middle of the movie, and predictability. The scenery in the movie was the high point.

deanb
I think Prometheus would be a good film if it was split into several parts. It feels like about 3 or so plots crammed into one film.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Finally saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier and thought it was incredible. Easily the best Marvel movie yet and I think a lot of that just goes back to the concept they're pulling from by Brubaker. When they're not tapping into the origins they have some amazing source material to work with. I think it's pretty obvious what storyline they're setting up though for those of us who have read the 00s era Captain America comics. I hope the casual fans lose their shit over it.
danielpholt
X-Men: Days of Future Past ITS GOOD!! Praise the lord. This could have been an absolute disaster that would have ruined the good work they did with First Class, but i really enjoyed it. Characters all got a moment, the story was enjoyable, interesting and everything looked, sounded and was acted well. Bring on the next film.. TheMightyEthan
I want to see it, but at the same time I'm irritated that they insist on further entangling the new movies with the first trilogy. There are just so many plotholes between First Class and X1-3, I wish they'd just made it a full-on reboot. Without spoilers, do they perhaps use timey-wimeyness to fix those issues? I'm not sure its possible to reveal that information without spoiling something. I will say that they're obviously going for that with this film, and it works. I'm sure there's still a few issues here and there, but on the whole it does the job.
